Nice review. My son (11) and daughter (9) both play the piano are both in Grade 2 (music) - They are both quite obsessed with the piano. We have an opportunity to buy a second hand HP 101 at a good price. We have an acoustic piano in the house but also want something that could give us silence every now and then (or allow them to play at the same time). I also want to get something that will be a good instrument to take them through to Grade 10. Should I get this HP 101 now or hold out for something a little better.

It might be a good idea for you to checkout the latest Kawai Digital Piano's. They are definitely much ‘more piano like’ then the Rolands. For instance Kawai CA 95 or CS 10. Absolutely gorgeous wooden keyboard, great 88 key piano sampling and even a real spruce wooden soundboard which makes the sound really comes alive.
Kawai kawai kawai I still use a kawai mp9500 with ravenscroft 275 and absolutely love it , I have tried all new pianos and can’t warrant spending 2000 or more on upgrading I did like the cp4 from Yamaha more than Roland And don’t buy a piano on the basis of it has all the bells and whistles it will make you play better ,if your not flush buy second hand , anything Roland and Yamaha will cost the earth it’s the name you pay the added price tag for , second hand kawai s can be found for bargain prices as there not so well known but are very good pianos
I have a Casio px760 & I love the way that it feels to me Yamahas have a very dark sound to them playing Bach or Beethoven I want a more brighter sound
Hard to say as those are fairly older models and have now been discontinued for quite a while. We are currently working on an updated video with the new HP and LX 700 series.

All these features you are mentioning are present in other manufacturers as well like Yamaha and Kawai. You seem biased towards Roland. Roland is a great digital piano manufacturer but Yamaha and Kawai are equally good. It is a matter of preference to each one feel and sound.
DON'T BUY A DIGITAL...before checking out the latest Kawai digital pianos (if you're looking for the most realistic touch that is, which is really the number one feature since you can easily connect the digital piano to a VST). Roland pianos all have hollow plastic keys, which some may prefer, but I can't stand them anymore since owning my Kawai CA-65.

I have bought rolands hp506 and the key noise is so hideous that i shall have to get rid of it. Shame because it is otherwise a decent piano. DO NOT BUY A ROLAND FOR THIS SINGLE REASON - it will drive you up the wall.
If you say that pianos are in conservatory than go to some class or examination and record playing piano on this brand you advertise. And also show classic difficult piano pieces.Your talking about this is irrelevant.Let`s hear playing by the classic professionals pianist.

This is an older model, however I believe the newer HP700 and LX700 series are accepted by the RCM.

Well that didn't last long huh?
They are really good and keyboard is awesome but Roland is still ahead in terms of sound simulation. Even with current CA78/98 Kawai pianos.

All of the features you mention are present on Yamaha and Kawai models. I believe that Yamaha tends to be the choice of UK conservertoires.
Not in the same price and portability range. The Yamahas I've tried lately do not have the weight or escapement features, among other things.

5:30 how can you say it's closer to a grand piano than an acoustic upright?! If the upright was dropped down the stairs, then maybe.

Plenty of sound examples of all kinds of digital pianos available. Not many reviewers take the time to actually explain WHY a piano sounds better.
