Okay this is incredible, all the things that has been happening, so a little story about me.
Ive been a bit overwhelmed with all the implications that comes with entering a working life (im an engineer) and I was loosing a bit my focus about what I really want to do, art. But life's a bit hard, you have less time, the company where I work had a 2 week crunch time where I worked almost hours a week, and I got sick in the process, I was destroyed, I went home at 11am and go bed without draw because I have to work 12+ hours again.
But last week I curiously got chicken pox too (at 26 years), so I was sent home to rest, and started to notice a pattern about the things I see around me, and somehow, I were surrounded by all kind of motivational stories, from the news on the tv and casual talking with people, to youtube suggestions about successful developer stories. I was almost shocked when I noticed this video, you released one of your most motivational speechs for free and now im listening the fuck out of it just as impressed as before.
I believe life is trying to tell me something, to focus again and pursue my dream and as you said you have to believe in these things, I believe in it.
Thank you for this hobby, you were a big part of my mind change, Im focused again now and I will not loose focus again about what I want to do, it is just a matter of time when I quit my job and start to do what I truly love.
    Cheeres.

I absolutely love this audiobook! I think you're so right about failure and resilience being keys to success. However, one thing I'd like to note: your approach to being easy on oneself, to relaxing when one is tired or unmotivated I don't necessarily agree with. You should always try your best and try to overcome the primitive self, but being aware of your body and your mental health is really imperative. If I feel like stopping, I listen to my body. I take a break and honor myself. But I balance that by committing to try and practice everyday, and putting my all into the time I am able to work.

I was discouraged all my life to be an artist, but in the past 10 months I´ve been trying to reconnect with myself and try to do my best. Thanks Bobby for all this amazing material, I will try to repay the things you gave helping others when I have the chance (not sure that I can now, I´m still an amateur XD). Also, keep the amazing work ;3

    Bobby you've changed my life
I study in Schoolism and its the best decision ever
I didn't want to go to a conventional school cause, really , school have always ruined my passion.
I studied the whole veterinary career, but discovered art was my call, so I'm 26 and started over again from scratch. With no time to loose I see I'm really improving with every class, just in company of my believe and passion.

I really look up to you bobby. I"m working with a client right now that could really get my art career going. I'm giving him so far way more than he is even asking for in the hopes he will be impressed. so far he has told me he likes my art. im really nervous though. thanks for helping me. i am a lot like you. I want to be a character designer. i dont know if it sounds lame but i just have always felt it in my heart. that is what i was meant to be. Tetsuya Nomura, the character designer for FInal Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts is my absolute hero.

This is a really old video, but I just wanted to say...thank you. Thank you so much. I’ve had some doubts about pursuing art as a career because of what my parents tell me and what I’ve read online. But I’ve realized that I truly want to draw, and make art, and tell stories, regardless of what others say. This video gave me the motivation and courage to pursue my dreams. Thank you again. I’ll be sure to pass on the knowledge to any other doubtful artist I encounter.

I Swear I've heard this audiobook like 7 - 8 times through my life already, on the spawn of once a year or so, it always keeps me motivated once in a while, and I've felt I've really progressed through my art career. Hope One day I can thank you in person one day Bobby. For now well I can't express how much this have changed me, even though some of the times I listened to the audio book I felt burnout and couldn't find myself on it, some other times I reflected my path on it and really find a way to push through, so yeah, thank you :3.

Every day as I begin my warm up sketches I will put on your videos to listen to. Today though your words hit me even more so than throughout all of your great interviews and exercise talks that have captured my attention since I first started listening (which is saying something coming from a guy with ADD). In this video specifically around 1:05:00 you had a "Coach Carter" like speech that made me pumped up to do my practice paintings this morning and made me feel proud of my decision in life to pursue being a professional artist.
As an undergrad I was on scholarship to swim competitively at the division 1 level and can safely say I have heard a good motivational pep talk or two in my life. Still, you somehow managed to send a shiver of excitement down my spine. This feeling reminded me about how much blood, sweat, and tears I had to shed in order to get to the level that I did within my sport.
My first year after graduating with a degree in Fine Arts is coming to a close soon and I sometimes begin to feeling that ever looming shadow of self doubt cast itself over my path ahead. I am reminded now of the sheer volume of hours though that I spent training each week in the pool for swimming, and lets just say it far exceeds the amount I have spent trying to make my way within in the art world. As someone who has had to play catch up their whole life to many naturally gifted athletes, I understand the amazing results that an insatiable drive can bring.
Sorry for writing out an essay here, but listening to what you said seriously managed to reassure me that I can do this. Recently I landed my first contract creating concept art for a mobile game and when that wraps up around January I look forward to finally subscribing to the Schoolism classes!
Thank you for this Bobby, I had no idea how much I needed to hear all of what you said.

Okay so. I honestly barely can relate to the book I feel.
I feel like I should be inspired. But it feels alienating. It speaks of the art journey as this joyous thing that you should obsess over and all that. But I just can't relate to it. My journey was and still is painful, frustrating, sometimes confusing, and rage inducing. I have a passion for art, but I am getting this impression that I am just not built for it because I don't have that same innate passion that is being displayed here. Not enough struggle is being shown. The expert voices feel like they want to be encouraging but instead they give off that vibe of "This person was made for art", instead of a person who decided to become an artist and after many trials and pain managed to succeed at getting to the top. At least at the start it tries to say that yeah things will be difficult but it seems to put way more emphasis on just overwhelming amount of work and "just enjoying it" and "just get obsessed" and "just draw". Real "if you aren't born it then you ain't becoming it" vibe with how it seems to dismiss just how grueling this path really is.
Also the whole "art reflects who the person is in reality" is a very problematic thing to teach. Especially nowadays as people are actively trying to bring back stigmatization of certain types of subject matter in media, accusing people interested in and creating such things to be a danger to others. That really can mess up horror writers/artists and some of the more taboo subject matter.
I should probably go through more of your videos and see if you've had an audiobook that is being more "real" about the journey, or even just a video or two.

Hi Bobby! I just want to express how I am so thankful to watch this video. I have been playing this over and over again for 2 days. At this point in time, I really need motivation and inspiration. I am listening to your audio while I am doing my Photoshop. I don't even have excellent resources but I am trying to make the most of it slowly and steady. I am so broke, I am only using Cs2 and a mouse for sketching, it is so hard. CC won't even work on my laptop as it is very old already. Sometimes your video will buffer and and my laptop turns white when I am doing my photoshop. But I am still listening and writing down all important factors to help me. This is a great challenge for me. I learn a lot of things from you and I have carefully started to apply it to my work. I was lost, resign from my job which does not have any connection to art and did not think what future may bring. I was so stressed and demotivated, and no one seems to understand what I am feeling. So I started to grab a pencil, sketch, and scan watch photoshop tutorial and came on this page. I am challenging myself now to do better artworks and results. I post some of my artworks on deviant art jikearts.deviantart.com/ and Facebook facebook.com/JikeArts/ edit with caption and personal opinions on it. And from now on I will control myself posting and observe what, how and when to post things. I really love to listen to this motivational audio/video to keep me believing on what I can achieve in the future. THANK YOU SO MUCH Bobby! :D

I was also struggling as an artist in my early days. still not completely independent, but still better than before. I am a full time caricature artist in a city called Pune in India, I hope that you get a chance to visit India and conduct one of your schoollsim courses here.

Hi +Philip Mathew, I work at Schoolism! I just wanted to say thank you so much for your lovely comment :) It is wonderful to hear that you were able to take away such inspiration, and that you found it so helpful!
Art is such a personal experience, and it's different for everyone, but I would say that we all go through our struggles! So don't feel bad about that :) Congratulations on being a full time caricature artist!! Sending you best wishes on your journey, and we hope to see you at a workshop one day! ~ Richelle

I'd gotten "The Perfect Bait" years ago, but some lessons take years to sink in, we need to be ready to receive them. I'm wondering what new insights I'll gain from this re-listen!

each of your video and itw, all those stories, are so inspiring and a reminding of what's great and important in being an artist, or doing art. And i totally agree in "teaching is learning", and the giving back principle. There is so much to say, so i'll keep it simple : thank you for what you're doing and for just being you ^^
