Last night while listening to this song, I had a realization. He never even watered her, based on the video. When you see the tear fall from her eye and hit her in the head, her eyes grow larger. Her own pain and sadness of rejection was what made her grow. She watered herself from her own tears.

i used to listen to this walking home from middle school almost everyday.... it helped me express my pain from early on and still to this day it means the world to me
At first I wasn't a big fan of their work. But it's grown on me. She has such an unique voice, and the music is very different from the norm right now. I love how delicate her voice is. And the lyrics are beautiful. Simple, yet say so much. She allows herself to be vulnerable. Even if I can't relate to the story behind the lyrics, I can experience them still because she gives it all and holds nothing back. Definitely rare and refreshing compared to most music out right now. Glad I decided to give her another chance instead of writing her off after listening one time. I think a LOT of people do that, and they miss out on so much great music because of it, I look forward to hearing more music for them in the future!
Carrie, that was an absolutely beautiful and surprisingly (for youtube) articulate comment. It was a pleasure reading it, and I couldn't agree more. I heard Glass & Patron and didn't care for it, but I'm so glad I gave her another shot, cause her work/art is amazing.
***** YES! But I am a huge Lana fan. Have been from the beginning. Well the beginning being her first album as Lana Del Rey. I'm hetero, but I have a HUGE crush on her. To me she is what classic beauty is. It never goes out of style. But back to the music. Even as much as I love Lana, when Ultraviolence came out It took me a few listens before I started to really like "Fucked My Way Up To The Top" but now I love it. I think people are just used to artist putting out similar music, so when someone comes in a switches it up it takes minute to figure out exactly what they're hearing. Doesn't take long before they fall head over heels. xoxo
@@indijinae 👁👄👁 recently started being used by a lot of gen z to express shock and a general wtf vibe. If you look at the music video it seems like fka twigs pioneered this look because her eyes and lips are edited to look big and exaggerated like the emojis. So now Juan Juri feels like they owe fka twigs royalties because it looks like miss twigs inadvertently started this trend and so she deserves credit.
This music video changed my life forever in high school. I’m almost 25 now. Twigs is up there with the likes of Björk for her raw emotional expression and I will forever love them both for it.
This song always moves me to tears. Such a beautiful song and production. She has this Björk like affect where it feels you’re experiencing a true work of art, not just a song.
"He said I was so small, I promise I can grow tall, I guess I'm stuck with me" Sounds more like she has some issues she needs to deal with herself that he can't fix for her.
iNunky Or he treats her like she’s never good enough and she just wants him to pin down what she needs to do to “please him” so she can “get better for him” but he never will, he keeps her strung up, because she’s easier to control that way. It’s far more common that women are made to do the emotional labor and fix men than the opposite is.
Pretty much all of the comments are either "I don't know how anybody could like this, it's so weird and terrible" or "You're a terrible person for not liking this." Let people have their own music tastes and stop shitting on each other. This music surely isn't for everybody, and we should all just come to that conclusion.
I vividly remember seeing this when it came out. At first I was confused but then I felt more connected to myself than I had before. I'm so grateful for her work and so sad knowing how much pain it's taken to have her create such masterpieces.

***** She is completely different from Bjork. She has her own style and sound going on. I don't see the resemblance between them sound wise or in visual art.
Knowing this came 6 years ago makes me feel so old and that I haven't accomplished shit. It feels like yesterday when she was getting press for dating Rob. I'm glad that now the comments are more positive.
I like to think in the video, when the tear falls from her face and then hits her on the head, making herself grow, that it's symbolic. When you're an adult especially, if someone had hurt you, you can't really tell like friends or parents without feeling juvenile. So for example if you had a partner or even just a date who said something a bit insensitive about an insecurity you already had, you feel you, alone, have to get over that insecurity before you're ready to be in a position where it could be brought up again.
I've totally saved your comment because it's so real and just like you said, the deep insecurities you have was easily to be unknownst by even the people who've been with you all your life.
Yeah they just don't understand the message. People dislike what they don't understand..I don't worry about them true fans get the deep connection she conveys 🕉️
This is so relatable...lots of emotion listening to this song. Finally really listened to the lyrics... I was in a very meaningful relationship that ended because of this (at least in the way I interpret the song). I was severely depressed and he couldn't be there for me...he got mad at me because I was depressed. I told him I would get better and just needed his love and support at that moment, but he said he couldn't do that for me. I ultimately left him because of how he treated me when I was struggling. I hated myself and he couldn't water me. And I felt so alone. But then I watered myself. And grew taller than before. ....thank you FKA twigs. I find a lot of emotional therapy listening to this song. I also love the graphics of the song. I feel like her head expands with the pressure of the distress that is going on inside her head after the trauma, perhaps signified by the way her head vibrates so violently in the beginning. However, then it goes calm when she comes to terms with how things are...her head is still expanded from the previous distress and now emotional intensity that she is dealing with, but she is calm with the acceptance. Very relatable. Thank you. I was front row at your performance at Symbiosis yesterday. You are amazing!
+Nina Poizen I've been loving her music. Unfortunately, I feel as though she is losing her magic. Her latest release is barely listenable. This song is from one of her earlier releases. It's a shame because she was becoming one of my favorite artists.
The answer to your question is all subjective. To each their own. I'm in love with all her previous work but M3LL155X in my honest opinion is the weakest of all her releases. In Time is the only track I truly like. I prefer the Live Version of Figure 8 she's been performing over the album version. So only 1 song out of 5 that I really enjoy.
+Anthony Lago tbh i agree with you whole heartedly, I think it's mainly because EP 2 was perfect. I really hope she works with arca again, as that's in my opinion the best music she's created, but then again, pretty much everything arca is involved in is brilliant (vulnicura, hallicinogen, EP2 and his solo music).
He told me I was so small, I told him not to let me go. This is my tragic tale, a 16yo girl fallen into a bad relationship lasted 2years, with a 33years old guy. He make me listen to this song for the first time in 2014. Now I understand his narcissism, his abuse, his mental power of play with me. But I can’t forget the feeling to be rejected from the first love.
You shouldn't ever waste another tear for that time-wasting predator. Never feel like anyone, but especially someone like that, is some gauge of how lovable you are.
A lot of y'all forgot that art isn't supposed to always make sense to you. It's subjective and up to interpretation. That's the beauty of it. I personally relate to the lyrics and don't find it to be that "weird". Also what's so wrong with being weird. It's more fun than being mainstream and unoriginal just making shit for clicks
9 years ago I found this gem, and there's no counting how many times I listened to it over the years. I subbed then and there. I wish you all the best in the world FKA and I love you for what you've meant to me, maturing from a young man into an adult. You've always been one of the greats in my book, and I'm stoked that you're still going at it. Forever a fan.
***** Watch your manners or get off my comment. There's nothing superior about you for having a different taste in music. In fact, you must be rather inferior for completely missing the point of music at all, which is finding one's own rhythm that makes them tick.
Wonderful singing, story telling lyrics and arca's beautiful touch of electronica. I'm amazed. In my opinion she sings about her expectations of a relationship, that the other one should help his partner overcome difficult stages and situations in live. She was sad and dissapointed, when she realized, that her partner wasn't willing to do that and was only expecting the relationship to be easy and joyful all the time, running away from it when twigs had a hard time.
Beautiful. The distortions remind me of how a confusing and hurtful relationship can cause a person to see themselves differently. True art mixed in with a beautiful voice and wise lyrics 👌
I've been listening to this on repeat for the past 2 days & I am so amazed at how it's off beat yet on beat. I love the reverb that emphasizes the words "pounds" & "tall" sooo much. I also love the way everything is panned, it has a good movement to it, & her voice is beautiful (of course), that's a given. This has become one of my favorites. "He told me I was so small, I told him 'water me'." CLEVER.
If you don't like her music don't fucking listen to it stop leaving hate she's amazing and beautiful you just don't understand the concept of the music it's more for the no Nostalgic and people who are into more Trippy songs don't like it don't listen
"Water Me" He won't make love to me now Not now, I've set the fee He said it's too much in pounds I guess I'm stuck with me He told me I was so small I told him "Water me" I promise I can grow tall When making love is free He won't make love to me now Not now, I've set the fee He said it's too much in pounds I guess I'm stuck with me He told me I was so small I told him "Water me" Lyrics, interpret it as you may. I believe it's a tragic tale about a prostitute who wants to be loved.
I moved my head along with and my brain and spine cracked along with the beat and now I feel like there's an extra hole in my head *illuminati confirmed*
I remember listening to this and her earlier music when it came out and not caring for it for some reason, maybe I just glanced and didn’t actually listen or felt it felt too distant/disturbing cause I was young and it is kinda scary, so I just never really listened to her other stuff either even as I grew, then about a week ago something made me watch cellophane, I don’t remember if it was someone talking about it somewhere online or UA-cam recommended it to me but I watched the video and it hit me with so much I haven’t felt from art in a bit. Then listening to other songs on Magdalene and her preform live, my words don’t do well at conveying my emotions fully, but her art resonated with me so much, even on a physical level giving me chills and tears and just a different experience that I’ve yet to find only a few other artists give to me. Now I’ve decided to look back on her other works and I feel new understanding and appreciation for them, I’m glad time and Magdalene have made me listen to her full body and I’m very grateful to whatever made me watch cellophane and experience her art, it feels like a blessing that I would love to sincerely thank for reintroducing me to her work
I think this song is about losing her virginity, the 'fee' being her virginity. She values her virginity as much as people value money, perhaps? The guy feels too pressured to be the one she loses her virginity to. 'It's too much in pounds', too much pressure. But if he 'waters her', like how you would water a plant so that it grows, she will grow as an individual, as a woman. And when he waters her (makes love to her), making love will be 'free', the pressure of losing her virginity will be gone. Like a rite of passage. But still, he won't make love to her. And she's stuck with only herself to please.
Actually, she says "He won't make love to me NOW", insinuating he once did. So it's now about virginity. It's about the sex not being worth the trouble of a relationship. Like she's not worth the trouble to him anymore. But it's art and open for interpretation.
Brock Albert Yeah that also makes sense. 'He won't make love to me now. Now that I've set the fee' the way I see it is, NOW that she told him she's a virgin, he won't make love to her. But yes, it is open to interpretation. :)
By pounds she means currency not weight, because in England the currency is in pounds (£). It also makes more sense that she means pounds as in currency since she is talking about a 'fee'
I think the watering yourself with your own tears part is really profound. I am not a cryer, but I had a very emotionally unhealthy upbringing and can relate to the grieving one does when no one will believe you anyway.
you can only understand the song when someone misunderstood your feelings and tells you that you're not mature enough for love and that's why it's over, i feel you now sis. the video is a masterpiece btw
i discover FKA twigs from my research of unique album cover on google (thats when i found LP1 album covers with the other album covers) so i did check wiki about her and knowing she is a Alternative R&B/Indietronica/Trip-Hop/Art-Pop singer and i jump straight to youtube to check some of her songs and Pendulum being the first song that hit the taste of my kind music before Water Me suprise me so very well. Until now i couldn't stop listening to both songs (especially Water Me). That kind of Alternative song are kinda rare in nowadays music scene.
He won't make love to me now Not now, I've set the fee He said it's too much in pounds I guess I'm stuck with me He told me I was so small I told him "Water me I promise I can grow tall When making love is free" He won't make love to me now Not now, I've set the fee He said it's too much in pounds I guess I'm stuck with me He told me I was so small I told him "Water me I promise I can grow tall When making love is free"

First time I saw this video barely anyone was arguing and complaining, or even trash talking it. Almost ever comment was positive... until she met Pattinson. Then all his troll followers arouse from the murky depths lol.
I don't think it's just about him anymore. She's gaining fame and that's going to attract trolls regardless. Plus people who come to check her out might just genuinely not like her sound. That's to be expected, but at least she's getting new fans! :)

From A Different Perspective: She is asking a man to stay with her, despite all of the heavy burdens and trama that she carries (too, much in pounds). She is asking that he stands by her as she finds ways to be lifted from the weight that she carries that is the result of those tramas (Water Me). As a man, I have experienced a few awesome women that have been through things that emerge via surprising triggers. When initiated, those triggers can create a lot of doubt. The man, in this case, finds that it is no longer possible to deal with the range of issues that the woman has. And he chooses to move on. Let me be clear - my view applies to this song and my experiences. Not all women. I think FKA Twigs is honest enough with herself to write and sing truthfully. This song inspired me to keep working on my marriage. It inspired me to try to help my wife grow through her trama. Hence the lyric and title WATER ME. That is how I immediately related to this song the first time I heard it. My synopsis is not meant to be mean spirited. It is meant to say to men (and women) who are involved with partners that have pasts that are stained and trouble... WATER THEM.
the thing that makes me truly happy is the fact that a lot of us are not trapped in a box. Music for me is an expression of how people think and feel. This song is not my favorite by FKA Twigs but is very creative and enjoyable, I do like it. My favorite by Twigs is HIDE.
I remember I found this song during a bad breakup. We were together for 7 years, we had a baby, my father passed and a combo of being depressed from post-partum & grief, I went into a deep depression and he went out every night with friends & we grew apart. I tried to reconcile one last time and pleaded with him to make it work for our family and I asked him, "am I not worth the fight or effort?" and he said no, you're not worth it. That was heartbreaking, gut wrenching all of it and this song really spoke to me. Turns out he was already getting to know another girl from work so of course when you feel like you have something to move forward with, its easy to be bold and mean to the last person. He's a POS and karma will find him eventually.
still dont even know till this day haha, I came from listening to trap music to this? Like its a whole new world, people talking about her in the comments and i just sit here confused as fuck lol.

I could agree more.
great description! i love her honesty
Doesn't take long before they fall head over heels. xoxo
***** Great minds think alike :)
she's way too good for this world. Real artist, so inteligent, so creative, so unique, very beautiful!
Well Said....
No, we just need more people like this in this world.

Bruh it's 2 am n this video and the song got me scared lowkey

Oh hello

Pleasant vibes in here 🌤
This song always moves me to tears. Such a beautiful song and production. She has this Björk like affect where it feels you’re experiencing a true work of art, not just a song.
Listen closely to what she is saying, when you hear the things she is saying. It is so heart touching and deep I swear to god.
I don't understand you, people.
She's actually really pretty.
Oh my...
Why???
Right. She looks just like Tinashe.
+Rae Doll she's older than Tinashe so tinashe looks like her
She's gorgeous.
she has a unique look. to some its beautiful. Unique is always valuable
this song does something to me . when you want to give someone your all but they only want some of you.
^ Well no shit. And there's nothing funny about that. It's a sad reality
I feel the same way
:(
"He said I was so small, I promise I can grow tall, I guess I'm stuck with me"
Sounds more like she has some issues she needs to deal with herself that he can't fix for her.
iNunky Or he treats her like she’s never good enough and she just wants him to pin down what she needs to do to “please him” so she can “get better for him” but he never will, he keeps her strung up, because she’s easier to control that way. It’s far more common that women are made to do the emotional labor and fix men than the opposite is.
I discovered twigs back in 2014 and was instantly blown away by her music. I still love her music but I think this era was her best
Pretty much all of the comments are either "I don't know how anybody could like this, it's so weird and terrible" or "You're a terrible person for not liking this." Let people have their own music tastes and stop shitting on each other. This music surely isn't for everybody, and we should all just come to that conclusion.
I agree I liked this song though:)
I was going to say something similar, but you saved me some time. Thanks.
stupid and celestial Your name, your comment, and your face is PERFECTION. Thumbs up!
stupid and celestial I agree but I regret that this is the first comment for such a beautiful song and amazing video.
I vividly remember seeing this when it came out. At first I was confused but then I felt more connected to myself than I had before. I'm so grateful for her work and so sad knowing how much pain it's taken to have her create such masterpieces.
greetings Aqua & beautiful souls my name is Ibn Orator...I am an Avant Garde Artist from New Haven CT. the music video was strange but the music itself was intensely soothing. love it.
I agree.
whats wrong with strange?
never said there was anything wrong with strange. it's captivating.
I agree
***** She is completely different from Bjork. She has her own style and sound going on. I don't see the resemblance between them sound wise or in visual art.
Twigs videos are extremely abstract like my dreams...
Cute avatar.
No yea yeah she got so depressed her eyes got big

Poetic. You can't explain things to small minds. If most people read past a half of a paragraph, it's too much for the microwave society.
Oh please.

oh shut up . this is creepy
Really beginning to love her music.
+Nina Poizen same here its relaxing and sexy in a odd way its growing on me,i like that its new and havent heard much like this before
+Nina Poizen I've been loving her music. Unfortunately, I feel as though she is losing her magic. Her latest release is barely listenable. This song is from one of her earlier releases. It's a shame because she was becoming one of my favorite artists.
+Anthony Lago She will have a 2nd LP soon, she is only just beginning.
I know I'm late to the game, but

well I'm 14 and I love so much twigs and I can understand art in general so also this video. The age doesn't influence our artistic "part".

maybe thank him for staying alive instead?

Your dad a real mvp then
A lot of y'all forgot that art isn't supposed to always make sense to you.
It's kinda funny looking at these comments from people who don't understand this type of music.
maybe we should have to understand this kind of music when they insert a lyrics
***** Watch your manners or get off my comment. There's nothing superior about you for having a different taste in music. In fact, you must be rather inferior for completely missing the point of music at all, which is finding one's own rhythm that makes them tick.
RollinLikeABetch Or maybe some people like songs with softer lyrics and a unique beat?
***** Music is subjective, with that being said fuck you.
Yes it is lol I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that
This is one of the best produced songs I have ever heard. It has such an ethereal vibe, despite the sad lyrics.
She is beautyful and I love her music. I could dance to it all day long.
Agreed, but its hard to dance to her style music

+clyde smith be nice she is beautiful you have to learn how to respect a woman no matter how she looks
+eCelia08 If he is so immature why are you responding in the same manner? How about you cut down on the hypocrisy and do some growing up yourself.
Wonderful singing, story telling lyrics and arca's beautiful touch of electronica. I'm amazed.
In my opinion she sings about her expectations of a relationship, that the other one should help his partner overcome difficult stages and situations in live. She was sad and dissapointed, when she realized, that her partner wasn't willing to do that and was only expecting the relationship to be easy and joyful all the time, running away from it when twigs had a hard time.
the fact that this was released on 7 years ago kinda creeps me out, like _she could gaze into the future_
This aged mad well, classic .
It was the first song I heard of her and I still love it😍

"Water Me"
He won't make love to me now
Not now, I've set the fee
He said it's too much in pounds
I guess I'm stuck with me
He told me I was so small
I told him "Water me"
I promise I can grow tall
When making love is free
He won't make love to me now
Not now, I've set the fee
He said it's too much in pounds
I guess I'm stuck with me
He told me I was so small
I told him "Water me"
Lyrics, interpret it as you may. I believe it's a tragic tale about a prostitute who wants to be loved.
Thanks for the lyrics
Felt it's more about being in love with an abuser. A narcissist that makes you feel worthless.
He told me I was so small, I told him not to let me go.

@@Banana_Nicole IT'S CALLED OBEAH fyi.
God, her serene voice laid atop Björk-esque production makes my auditory cortex so warm.
Now I’ve decided to look back on her other works and I feel new understanding and appreciation for them, I’m glad time and Magdalene have made me listen to her full body and I’m very grateful to whatever made me watch cellophane and experience her art, it feels like a blessing that I would love to sincerely thank for reintroducing me to her work
Someone has hacked my UA-cam account and keeps playing this video over and over again and I'm honestly horrified

Lovely spoken: )
Makes more sense to me. Thanks.
She has an incredible face. Who can forget it? I like the song- it's weird and beautiful.
Beautiful faces are easier to forget :P
Shadow Slayer incredible doesn't mean beautiful
you can only understand the song when someone misunderstood your feelings and tells you that you're not mature enough for love and that's why it's over, i feel you now sis. the video is a masterpiece btw
The lyrics are haunting....her delivery even more so. The video doesn't do much for me but I love this song.
i discover FKA twigs from my research of unique album cover on google (thats when i found LP1 album covers with the other album covers) so i did check wiki about her and knowing she is a Alternative R&B/Indietronica/Trip-Hop/Art-Pop singer and i jump straight to youtube to check some of her songs and Pendulum being the first song that hit the taste of my kind music before Water Me suprise me so very well. Until now i couldn't stop listening to both songs (especially Water Me). That kind of Alternative song are kinda rare in nowadays music scene.

Am I the only one who really loves this song?
No, i do too, her voice and the beat just gives me an eargasm.
edwinelmejor08 I love it to, people just need to know what real music is, and this is!♥♥
leeleeloo Definitely, I've been bored with the music industry recently, and the reason why i loved this so much is because she and her music are different and music needs that, it needs diversity and it has to evolve.
edwinelmejor08 maybe you should listen to some of lordes songs her and fka twigs are like my two fave artists
Nimotalai Lawal I've listened to Lorde and I like her, but I'm looking for something more futuristic and artistic like fka twigs.
Yeah, love her so much and i'm glad shes doing well :D!

Idk what your talking about...it's even better when you're stoned
It's trippy and scary Rusty Shacklefurd
Christal J yea idk, I guess that's why I like it
Christal J There now, what's suppose to happen?
From A Different Perspective:
She is asking a man to stay with her, despite all of the heavy burdens and trama that she carries (too, much in pounds).
This is actually good idk why people were complaining about this
Right? I don't see how this is scary either
Is everything that Arca is involved in amazing? absolutely.
What the fuck am I on, how did I even get here lmao
