Thank you for choosing W.B. Jones as your spring resource. In this video, we will be describing the types available for extension springs. Overall, the types are fairly simple, but we hope this video helps you to determine which type meets your requirements. There are two basic types: hooks and loops. Hooks have a gap and loops are fully closed all the way around.
Most of our stock items have loops, but they can be easily cut into a hook if needed. Both hooks and loops come in a few different style options to match your needs. Here are some of the most common end styles. These extension springs have crossover and machine style ends. They are the standard and styles. A crossover is seen here.
Notice the wire crossing over the center of the spring. Here's a machine style end. Notice the way it comes directly out of the spring body. These both function the same way. Crossover ends are used on small springs and machine ends on larger springs. This spring has a side style and type. Notice the way the ends sit on the same plane as the spring body.
This is a double loop and type. The extra loop strengthens the end to prevent loop breakage. The last factor to consider is the relationship of ends, which we asked on our online form. The default is a random position. This is the most common and cheapest option. We also offer the ability to order the precise angle you need for your application, such as in line opposite and 90 degrees.
If you require a different relationship, please give our staff a call to go over your options. Thank you for watching our video. And if you find yourself holding a spring that has a unique end type or something not easily describable, we have members on staff who are always here to help.
