Thanks a bunch. All those shims fell out when I took the column out to fix the leg release levers. (Dumb, didn't have to do that.) As a side note, you can also do the shims in reverse if you turn the tripod upside down. It's more difficult, but if you don't have the extension bar to remove the top plate, it works. You can also use a dab of weak glue to hold the shims in place. Thanks for posting and making a clear video of the procedure.
I have several of these tripods i picked up from a film maker. For some reason the platforms are gone on all of them. I have the geared column, and I have some of the base caps, but no platform to attach a head. at $81 each, I am about to the point of getting some 2 inch blocks of aluminum and turn my own on the lathe.
Great video! At 1:40 you talk about replacing a worn out gear. Do you access that part by removing the three screws we see at the top of the collar? Is it a tricky fix?
Probably too late to help you but for anyone else wondering, yes underneath the casting cover you'll find where the crank handle marries to the rack gear which is what actually moves/holds the column. The rack gear is made from a softer metal than the column or crank so without fail it will wear out first.
I wish Id seen this video weeks ago when I tried to fix my tripod. I already messed up some of the plastic pieces trying to put it together harshly. Will try to see if they sell the spare parts to try to put it together again. Great video, thanks!
Hi, would like to find out..How do you remove the column stopper at the bottom? I've the spare parts from a spoilt Manfrotto 058 tripod, trying to figure out how to extract and place unto my used Manfrotto 058 tripod. If you could make a video on it would be great. Thanks in advise
Hi! Thanks for the tutorial! I snapped the metal piece that holds the top of column snugly in place because I screwed it too tightly. Do you know if it's possible to buy that piece instead of having to buy an entire new center column?
Hi! I have a 028B tripod, almost the same like the one in the video, it happened to me the same as described, same metal piece. It looks like you have to buy entire center column, I didn´t find just that metal piece.
@@borgesimaging587 I think I have the same problem. + I don't know which tripod version I owe, it seems to be that all listed versions on the website use a different part (stopper) than the one you have =(the same than ours) Can you tell me which number that part has? Do You think any column (058B) would fit for us?
I need to remove the center column in order to fix something. How did you manage to remove the plug at the bottom? Can't seem to get the center column out!

Thank you so much for this video! My 3036 pooped it’s guts out today. Now I can put it back together. Thanks again!

Thank you! You were clear and I was able to repair my tripod. Great!
Brilliant! Just had mine fall apart, this saved so much time!

Thank you very much. This was just what I needed to reassemble a Bogen / Manfrotto 3036 tripod.

Unfortunately you need to buy the whole. It sucks.

Thanks, so helpful.
This was very helpful - thank you very much for sharing!!
...and what size socket was that...?!
Its a 1/2 inch socket. ; )
13mm inside the column
14mm for the bottom column plug, then 13mm inside the column
The best tripod ever made.
thanks really helpful and easy to follow

Undo to nut half way and pull off with pliers.
@@borgesimaging587 Thank you! i was trying the pliers, but i was nervous to break something
BRAVO!!!!!. MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!
I wish it was still $50, I just spent $110 (CAD) for a new center column.
