    The part where he waves at the astronaut suit just kills me! It's so.. Cute and wow at the same time. Can you just imagine all the algorithms and shit going through that robot when he does that!

    This is what makes me happy. Robotics coming so far in so short a time. A day will come where we can own a robot similar to ASIMO for only a few thousand - and I couldn't be more excited.

    I think we're probably about fifty to a hundred years off, just a guess. And I do realize roughly how much time and energy goes into projects like this--I was in no way trying to belittle anyone's achievements. I was just suggesting that we have a faulty understanding of what intelligence and learning actually are, as I'm sure you realize. That said, this is one of the most amazing feats of engineering I've ever seen!

    I have seen Asimo on "Daily Planet" and "Sci-Q" and each time it seems more amazing! He has the ability to remember names and remember commands! It's not exactly A.I. but its a sort of software that takes voice commands.

    Wow... I know it's all programming, but, it left an impact on me. Seeing a 'bot as tall as me (I'm short- sue me) do all that, react to his enviroment... Wow. It was so cute when he waved to the suit (Hi daddy!) and spreading his arms in the airplane thing (Wheeee!)... Wot.

    This video shows the progression of it all, by him walking the steps to show what he has overcome already, the leak to represent the leaks in his mind (thus far, until AI) and he is learning new things by looking into the telescope...
    the future is simply amazing

    ASIMO's ability to identify the source of sounds has been improved, and it can distinguish between voices and other sounds. It can respond to its name, face people when being spoken to, and recognize sudden, unusual sounds such as that of a falling object or a collision, and face in that direction. It is also able to respond to questions, either by a brief nod, a shake of the head or a verbal answer.

    very true
    i watched a doc. on it yesterday
    it is able to make judgements
    and when shown an object, i.e a car, it is able to think what the car looks like it is used for -wheels-driving and can tell you what it is, without being told, it will remember it forever, its a very smart machine, and it is also able to understand that it should be careful of bigger objects than itself, they recently programmed it to stop people from trying to cross the road when there not supposed to, its very smart

    There are 5 recognition technology that asimo has. #2 is recognition of human postures and gestures. #3 is environment recognition. if 2 and 3 is applied, it could be possible that all of those subtle, humorous, human like gestures that asimo makes may be true. The japanese dream of making robots that arent just advanced. They want a robot like the show "ATOM" that these adults used to see as a child: a robot with human behaviors.

  • @obiwanobiwan13
    @obiwanobiwan13 17 років тому

    YAY! We are getting closer and closer to the kind of droid-human relations that Asimov, Roddenberry, and Lucas envisioned. We now have a robot that can walk, recognized individuals and remember them, and so much more. If only it could talk...... can it?

    I had the chance to see real Asimo in Japan (I am Japanese). He is pretty cool. This commercial is made by CG from what I understand but as I said, do search on UA-cam by typing " Asimo" you will find many video clips about him. Asimo was created to help people in the future ( elderly, disabled, children etc).

    With cloud computing and the internet a robot with a functioning AI could potentially learn almost anything in no time.

  • @eriandor
    @eriandor 15 років тому

    I've already seen protopypes of asimo that use a real constructivism algorithm to LEARN. I know 99,9 % of the robots out there now are fully pre-programmed, but these certain prototypes are just programmed to learn (patterns etc...). I'm gonna look it up again just to be sure and you should too. Of course it won't be autonomous yet, a baby isn't too but it's pretty amazing too see some REAL robot intelligence development

  • @SepradistPhantom

  • @rml695
    @rml695 16 років тому

    Anyone see this as an aid for people who are blind? I think this would be a great asset to someone living in a big house or in an unfamiliar environment. Surely they'd ahve their cane and guide dog with them, but the guide dog can't explain what's around them. Asimo probably could, and this would eliminate the need to set aside, say, an airport worker to help them throughout the terminal. Just my thoughts on it but I think it's an amazing project and should come to pass (I'd like it to).

    i think this commercial gives ppl the wrong impression that this robot can perform these tasks on its own. everything was programmed, and to actually achieve the goal of a true robot that has a mind of its own, being able to recognize itself in its reflection and "think", it wont be another tens of years, if not longer.
