Very nice New York Steinway. I'm glad you said it is for all genres because just as you'll find the Steinway D in concert halls, you'll find them used in jazz in large places as well. In smaller venues, you'll find the B or L or O. One difference you'll find in the newer Steinways is the casters are a lot larger. Then there is the Hamburg D that some concert pianist prefer (though earlier pianists like Rubenstein and Horowitz preferred the New York D).
Man ! Am I the only one thats afraid and scared of big iconic instruments like Steinways ? Just touching them makes me stress out so badly ! Great video as always !
Beautiful singing tone! I read a book about the making of a Steinway which said something interesting. At the start of the process the builders don't know exactly what "personality" the piano will have. Since these are hand built instruments and made largely of wood the subtle variations in lumber will impart boldness, gentleness, etc. The hammers can be voiced up or down but then you are fighting against the inherent character of the individual piano. The piano referenced in the book turned out to be an exquisite chamber instrument with a beautiful singing voice.
So, why did Sydney Town Hall go Fazioli and Auckland Cathedral go Kawai when each was expected to go Steinway or Bosendorfer? Because, like Rolls-Royce, Steinway was once the greatest and has not got worse, but that others have since caught up.
I was trying to hear fake midi vs real piano in a lot of different genres and like only one or 2 have any actual real instruments played kinda really sad
You are very perceptive! Years ago, I was engaged to perform several recitals on a series and it was on this very piano! Here are links to some solo piano performances as well as a couple with my wife, Florence Estrin who is an amazing flutist: Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 ua-cam.com/video/SxRq07yVLfo/v-deo.html&index=5&list=PLb9dheYKfknTjIG4_-dNcL1PX1oGaAh5C Chopin Nocturne in F-Sharp Major ua-cam.com/video/u_P3iQf4fAU/v-deo.html&index=6&list=PLb9dheYKfknTjIG4_-dNcL1PX1oGaAh5C Chopin - Andante Spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante ua-cam.com/video/CgXm6pIRxwA/v-deo.html&index=8&list=PLb9dheYKfknTjIG4_-dNcL1PX1oGaAh5C Carmen Fantasy: Bizet/Borne ua-cam.com/video/azJGlbgT6RY/v-deo.html Ave Maria: Bach/Gounod ua-cam.com/video/u7nNqvsnAEg/v-deo.html
I love piano and I love playing it but I can't be alone in cringing at the pretentious hand gestures that some pianists do, particularly the floaty hand thing just before starting to play and the theatrical movements whilst playing. It's so unnecessary and to be brutally honest, it looks stuck up and snobby.
That piano is PERFECT for Beethoven !!!! The sound you produced, maestro, was absolutely fantastic when you were playing the Beethoven!

Real piano and real piano music awesome sounds exquisite
Amazing. Too bad microphones don't reach 27hz. I'm sure the bass resonance in that room was awesome.
27 hz is far below sub bass
What a glorious instrument

That piano plays the best LivingPianos intro.
I would love to try one of these Steinway D at least once in my life.
Same here.

I have, keys are very sensitive
I just know those low notes shake the soul!
Steinway Models….S - small, M - medium, L - Large, B - big, and D - damn big
Such pristine clarity and brightness. Ahh...to own one of these...
Wasent expecting the instrument to have a sound like that in reaction to Maestro Domingo Scarlatti. Just superb.
Domenico Scarlatti o "Domingo Escarlati" en español... XD
Beautiful playing Robert!
4:45 dat slow pedal release tho
Just an absolute pure work of art.....
Robert, what is your critique of Nord's Lady D sample?
Really enjoyed this video thank you!! What a beautiful sound!!
My piano just jumped off the balcony..
Great playing!
What is the name of Scarlatti Sonata you play? - He made a lot in C-major.

Maybe a silly question but did I not catch the name of the piece at 4:10?
Owen Copson that would be the piano portion of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto #1.
Piano: The Making of a Steinway Concert Grand by James Barron (K0862)
Did I miss your "history" with this piano?

Yup, that’s when music begins (Scarlatti)
you can tell the piano is completely overpowering the room acoustics 😄
Not rich enough to afford, not good enough for someone to want me to play theirs. Ho hum, such is the life for me.
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
