    Talking about health care. I was passing a kidney stone in 2008, here in Atlanta,GA USA. The stone was large and I was in a lot of pain. So I went to the emergency room. Was seen by a doctor, had an x-ray, the by the same doctor after. Total of 10 minutes of his time and maybe 10 - 15 minutes for the x-ray including waiting time. Had no insurance at the time. Cost $7,000 dollars US. Forward on to 2011. I'm in Chiang Mai on vacation. Have another kidney stone. Lucky a youtube vlogger I knew, who had lived in Thailand and Asia for over 15 years took me a few days prior to a local pharmacy, who's pharmacist spoke English. Forward two days later. I was passing another kidney stone. Walked to the pharmacy. Almost passing out along the way. Told the pharmacist what was happening. She gave me two prescriptions. One to pass the stone and the other for the pain. Total out the door, $5.00 US. Which is one of the reasons I will semi retire to Asia in a few years. The main reason being the lovely people and the second is the health care. Which is as good as or even better in some cases then the USA. www.numbeo.com/health-care/compare_cities.jsp?country1=United+States&country2=Thailand&city1=Atlanta%2C+GA&city2=Chiang+Mai

    HI Chuck, HI Paige, that was a great interview, still churning through your videos to catch up but you haven't disappointed me on your content thus far, I admire your down to earth take on views such as politics religion, non involvement and non partial. I think I may enjoy a visit there. One concern that I may have is how are people of color (I'm black) related to? It's unfortunate that there is a stereotype stigma that in some case follow us.

    • @notime2bsad
      @notime2bsad  6 років тому

      I made a QnA about skin color can't seem to figure out which one now. Anyone who is not Thai is Farang They will call you dom for the color black see dom. There is a different type of word for each foreigner. So if you are not sensitive to that than no worries. It is not derogatorily or hateful from them. The elders called black people nikky, why, I have no idea.... Just like all of us Farang and anywhere in the world, if you want respect, show respect. I don't care what anyone thinks about me nor should you. Enjoy life and who you are....

    Nice you Chuck to let us eavesdrop on your chat with your English buddy from Birmingham. It was very interesting to hear the gentlemen's version of his experience and life over there. The only thing that i was curious about your English friend was of the time he's been there how did he pick up thai language? I would assume he would be fairly fluent. Nice interview.... Would he be the gentleman you met on a scooter carrying some kids on one of your earlier vlogs along the river?

    As a Brummie myself you will get an honest answer... it's a sh*te hole now, Redditch Hospital is great though, my grandad spent time there & they were superb. England as a whole is now down the pan as are many other Western Countries & Thailand (as others) is what we remember as the good old days & why we like it so much. Everybody is friendly (even if they don't know you) and it's just like taking a step back in time... for the better. Make the most of it now before they get the bad Western ways.

    That’s a great interview and much appreciated....it’s a small world our UK home in on the Isle of Dogs next door to Greenwich ...how old were the kids when they moved there? I have a real conundrum, I have two girls 5 and 7, do I keep the kids in UK attending inner london state schools with all the problems that gives or relocate to Thailand, we could live quite comfortably on my income but not afford private Thai school fees.. my wife graduated with a degree from Ubon univ and is a qualified Thai teacher...she has more reservations than I do though.

    A bit unusual these days to find anywhere in Thailand where locals haven't seen farang or other foreigners. Maybe 15-20 years ago to some extent, but in my experience traveling to the remotest parts of the country over the years my presence no longer excites or surprises anyone (unlike back in 1999-2000). The only exception might be heading into a local elementary or high school in the sticks; walking through a small town might also elicit some smiles but nothing more. But walking through a larger town like That Phanom? No reaction in my experience.

    • @therock8224
      @therock8224 6 років тому

      Of course, anyone from the countryside or a small town that claims to have never seen a farang before must have never left their village. Because even if foreigners are far and few between in That Phanom, they are quite common in Mukdaharn and Nakorn Phanom, both only around 50km away. Both cities are much larger than That Phanom and also happen to be located next to bridges that connect Thailand with Laos. Mukdaharn is particularly popular as Savannakhet just across the river in Laos has a Thai consulate where many farang go to get their marriage visas. Probably half the economy in that town is based on foreigners coming on visa trips - they arrive, stay a night or two and then go back to Thailand after they've received their visas.

    Actually, the partner and even other family members of a pregnant woman in labor are allowed into the delivery room of Thai hospitals. Perhaps there are different policies at local provincial hospitals though I would be surprised that they would have stricter rules. In western countries they are much stricter about who is allowed to be in the delivery room if they allow anyone at all it's the husband or partner only. Therefore I find this guy's comment rather odd and contradictory to my own experience.

  • @SpicyPeteNorman

    Good interview... however your British friend kept saying that he is a home owner... but in fact he does not own it, his wife is the owner. FOREIGNERS CANNOT OWN A HOME OR LAND. There are legal loopholes, but those loopholes are costly (yearly fees for lawyers) and the loopholes could be removed at any time and you would be forced to sell (at the exact same times as every other foreigner that took advantage of the loophole... just imagine what would happen to the house prices during that time).
    Chuck... maybe you could inform everyone... Foreigners can only legally own a condo (registered at the land titles office under the foreigners name), and only up to 49% foreign ownership of any one building.
    So... when immigration treats him the same as a non home owner, it is because he really is not a homeowner, his wife is a homeowner. If his wife wanted to kick him out, he would have no legal right to anything, he would be forced to leave with nothing.

      If they watched the video in its entire length they would no for themselves. Thailand will always protect Thai citizens. Personalty I respect that. I wish there were rules in our own countries that would look out solely for it's citizens. I try not to live life based on What IF's. I will tell you this as a man in the USA in a divorce the women is entitled to half, and usally get to keep the house, but lets you pay of the mortgage. You can skip to 7:10 of this video where we talked about your concern.

    • @SpicyPeteNorman
      @SpicyPeteNorman 6 років тому

      notime2bsad ... I went to 7:10 and there is no information other than your friend stating that he ownes 49% and his wife owns 51%. In reality, she owns 100%. To say 49/51% gives an impression that he actually has 49% ownership and your audience should be made clear that he has no legal right to the house or land and in a separation he would be entitled to absolutely nothing.

    • @notime2bsad
      @notime2bsad  6 років тому +2

      Instead of going back in forth with you on who deserves what it Thailand, how about not buying a home in Thailand if this is a major problem for you to loose what is Yours. Renting is cheap, easy, hassle free, and no anchors, It is what Most people do here anyway.

    • @SpicyPeteNorman
      @SpicyPeteNorman 6 років тому

      Chuck, i dont expect a reply. after my 30 years of travelling to Thailand I know almost all the ins and outs... so discussing it with me is probably a waste of your time. My point was not for you to discuss it with me, but to share with your listeners the reality of ownership. i only suggest this as your videos are teaching others about thailand and it would be wise to let them know that a foreigner cannot own Land.
      There are many ways around this, some more risky than others. one way for a guy to buy land is to put it in the wifes name, and at the same time sign a legal contract with her leasing the property for 30 years... and register this lease with the land titles office (this can only be done with certain types of deeds). this way a guy cannot be thrown off the land.
      As for me... I will buy a condo this year in Cha-am / Hua hin.
      Thanks for your previous replies... keep up the good work... next time i am in your neighbourhood i will buy you a few drinks and dinner. if that is not possible, i will drop off a bottle for you to enjoy later.

    Hi Chuck, some information, your friend gave wrong advice on property in the video - a non-Thai can't buy a house here in Thailand for one reason; you can't buy or own land! He said in the video that he owns 49% and his wife owns 51% I think what he should have said is that he and his wife have formed a business and that it owns the house, with him owning 49% maximum in the business. It is actually against the law! Relating to his comment that his visa should be easier as he owns property, that is incorrect. If the Land Department discovered that he was the owner of the property they could, and would, take legal action against him! Incidentally they are cracking down on the business/property scam!
    You can buy a condo in your own name or (if your wife doesn't change her name with the marriage) in her name however, that's not really suggested as being a good idea.

    • @wayneseymour1
      @wayneseymour1 6 років тому +1

      Why do people in the west always worry about if they own the house or land? In many cases back home especially, you don't own it the banks and lending companies do(US BS and their strong hold on your life) and at the end of the day when you die how big of a coffin do you want have to try and take it with you? Just be contented that you have enough life to enjoy it at this present point and time, today your are here tomorrow,..........? Stop making your materialist overbearing mind take control of you. Enjoy life at its present time. If things go south, look into your choices, its your fault for making that decision that took you down that path.Just hope you have enough foresight to rebound if it does."Don't worry just be happy"

    • @therock8224
      @therock8224 6 років тому

      And then you have to pay property and local/state taxes even once you have paid back the mortgage or if you happened to have enough money to purchase the property in cash it's never really yours. Stop paying property or other taxes as required by law and see who really owns your home.
