Anyone can draw if that is what they wish to do. I wake up in the morning and it is all I can think of drawing, sculpting , creating. I was lucky to have formal fine arts training, but I know now that it i a thing of the past in colleges. Just keep practicing draw every day no matter how many disasters you have you learn from every one of them and you get better. I tell children when I am drawing at the zoo it just takes doing it every day and hand out erasers and pencils to them. When they immediately say I could never do that! I say did you know that in Rome there is a garbage dump filled with Leonardo Di'Vinci's bad days? No artist creates perfection all the time the trick is to keep drawing until your body draws what you want without you thinking about it leaving your mind to create. I enjoyed your tutorial it was very good and well as my mother taught me anyone who says you stink or is a hater is just jealous. Keep on keeping on. :D

Thank you for saying that. I don't generally draw I am a writer. I love to take pictures but i never quite got drawing down pack. For some reason I feel compelled to draw. Thanks for making me feel better about it not having to be perfect. Sometimes it's hard to remember to enjoy the process and to learn from your mistakes. You only get better with practice. Btw, Nice tutorial. I will be watching more of your videos.

I always look at other people's art and I'm like 'damn I wish I could do that! THAT'S SO COOL!!!' But then there's people who aren't even careful with their drawings for people and just do it in a couple minutes, yet they get so much great feedback and it's like they're so fantastic, when they're not really. But then I think 'Well they get more feedback than me... I guess I'm just not good enough...'
      *sigh*

Who care about feedback. Just do what you like and be better at it every day...At the end its your personal satisfaction.
I am currently in characters creation for 3d modeling. I am struggling a lot and doing small steps at a time, but man i am so happy coz they look real, have sort of personality and all that. So i dont care i dont have cheer leaders in my vicinity to tell me "your the man"....One day, maybe,,one day,,,or not. Who know.

but the real question is : how do you draw two eyes that exactly look the same? whenever I try to portrait, the two eyes always look different and it gives a silly squint look to the portrait ._.

I watched this video and your lip video and found both very helpful. I'm a total beginner and suddenly want to learn to draw! I never thought I could learn to draw or paint because I have NO natural talent. But I'm finding I improve every day and videos like yours help SO much in providing instruction on those important techniques needed to become a better "artist." Thank for providing them--you and several others whom I found on UA-cam, do a great job helping those of us who haven't a clue where to begin!

Kelly, this video actually made me cry! I am NOT an artist and can only draw "stick people" but I am obsessed with watching artists' videos. I'm sure you've been asked this questions many times before, but it's one that I'd love your opinion on - do you believe that one can be "taught" to draw? I guess I've always believed that artists are born with this talent and of course still need to hone their amazing talent. Kelly, I am thoroughly enjoying your YT channel and even though I am just a card maker, I have learned a lot from you. I am full of envy when I watch artists create and I can't help but get so emotional. Oh, and when it comes to the eyes of any creature, I get all emotional watching them "come to life".....absolutely incredible. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kelly!

Wow Kelly this was amazing. I just picked up a sketch book and decided I'd get back into devoting time to a creative outlet. I went to my first workshop in 2009. But as life happens, job and other family demands have left me with very little time. I thought I would start slow focus on faces. Study and practice placement of features and then the details. I put my small sketch book in my work bag with some supplies. When ever I have few minutes I am going to practice. Now I have a great study guide to keep with me on my phone. Thank you so much. - Hugs to that sweet kitty sitting next you. I volunteer at a no kill inner city cat rescue. We have 200+ residents. I have three fosters that live with me right now. They have feline leukemia and fiv. Take care-Sue in Michigan

I recently just got back into drawing myself. I'm picking up from 7th grade, and I'm drawing things I could have never drawn when I was a kid. Technique is a great thing to have but the added focus of being an adult can really push your art to the next level. Glad I picked it up again! Happy sketching everyone!

For the cotten ball trick, you can do that with your finger as well, to give it a cloud or smokey look... But it does get your finger dirty... If you use your finger then it will also appear a bit darker or light it depends on how hard you press. But thats a Very useful method of shadeing.., So.,. USE IT!!!!😄😄😄😃

But my main flaw is details. I know what needs to be done but i dont always know how to get the desired effect. Especially in lips, eyes came naturally to me and this has refreshed a lot of idears, thankyou for the input, love the work you've done. Best pencil eye drawing tutorial online ever Kelly!!! I continue to find new videos on your channel and I love each and every one of them.
Regarding the draw before painting, it's totally true for almost everyone but sadly I am not one of them. My art teachers all through life could not understand it (neither could I). I'm one of the ransom people who can do things with paint but can barely draw (compared to the level I should be drawing). This video helped tons though!

Yes you can, you wouldn't have a drawing book in the first place if you didn't think you could draw. There are lots of styles of drawing, find yours.

You're amazing, and an inspiration to become a painter:) I have 0 painting skills and it drives me crazy, being in high school now I'm planning on taking every and any art class available to me to learn as much as I can and to continue that knowledge all the way into college. Although it's not gonna be my career choice, art is definitely my number one hobby:)

Thanks, that was amazing. I've been looking up on You Tube how to draw an eye and it was really helpful when you described in your first" drawing" what, where and how things look on an eye when drawing. Your finish drawing was perfectly detailed for me and I am going to use your example on my next eye drawing. Keep the art coming!
