She's an up and coming opera singer. And of course he is a singing superstar. But in all honesty, he would be laughed off a real opera stage, which is exactly what happened when he tried to sing Massenet's Werther in Detroit. He's a great entertainer though, and if it makes people interested in seeing real opera, then I'm all for it.
Yes, I am lucky to live near NYC, but I missed her debut unfortunately: I saw the same opera a year or two before with Diana Damrau and so I had chosen others for this year. Had I known about her then, I'd most certainly bought a ticket. I am sure she'd be invited again after this debut, it's really was great, you could probably find the reviews if you google "Pretty Yende Le Comte Ory", also some clips here including a video clip from the dress rehearsal.
Ahhh I could have ... if I lived in New York ;-) .. Unfortunately I hail from RSA and currently live in Tanzania where there is a complete dearth of opera! - In RSA she sings from time to time,,, but not with the same distinguished partners! you are a lucky fish !!
Yes I know they don't use mikes UNLESS they're singing with the orchestra directly behind them as is the case here, and you'll notice that Pretty is also miked. Even Renee Fleming, Sumi Jo, Anna Netrebko and all the rest use mikes in this setting.
Some of the comments on here are laughable, Pavarotti introduced bocelli because he's that good, the 4th tenor, oh and he's singing in Central Park, if you haven't been there the place is massive

His voice is so clear I can hear all the letters he sings. THE Tenor!
Bocelli's voice is not opera quality, but it has a pleasing tone. He's an entertainer, and a good one.

What really impresses me is to hear the "high C" at the end. Even younger tenors ain't hit that note at this point of the aria.

You could've just gone to the Met and heard/saw Pretty Yende's spectacular debut in Le Comte Ory.
not very good. he sounds weak and tired. she is off key at times and what is up with that name and her hairdo? he looks hot as always
too much wobble high C Bocelli sucked. he's a pop singer not an opera singer so one really can't expect the best of performance.

they both sound fantastic. Can you imagine what it's like singing at Central Park when it's cold and damp?!
