    I love those story tablets! In the credits there’s a historian listed, and boy did they do their homework! I feel like the MCU has made us forget that Vikings were marauding, murdering psychos (much like the Romans). The most enduring, widespread, and advanced ancient nations tended to be a tad bloodthirsty.

    She a pict warrior and back in those days mental health and having voices in your hands like this would be considered supernatural or powers

    • @MddHound
      @MddHound 2 роки тому +2

      Who says it isn't? We have put down everything to "mental health" issues, while it appears that some people experience benefits from the voices in their heads. Even better, it is said that those who have "good bonds" with the voices barely seek help, so we don't actually know what it is.
      I do however like the dream state into your daily life explanation, an explanation without anything supernatural of powers. I would also find it interesting if it is more then a disconnection. Who knows, it is good to keep an open mind about those things, especially since the current science-hype does erase a lot of things and is very bland in its approach to life.

    in 2017 under a lot of pressure and anxiety, something broke in my brain and I began hearing things, the whole world was "speaking" to me. I experienced multiple voices each with their own personality, it took away my sleep and the experience became a hell. The best description is like living in a horror movie. I became obsessed with gods and the divine as I felt it was talking to me, in every leaf, bird, and insect, existence itself speaks to you in a profound meaningful way. This is called psychosis and is what manic bipolar people and schizophrenics experience. It was a trip into hell and my life was falling apart around me as I spent months speaking to "myself" altho it was not like that for me. I've been medicated since 2019 and I'm almost cured, antipsychotics take the magic out of life but it's better than living in hell.
    This game, especially while the voices are whispering and what they are whispering is a very accurate depiction of psychosis, as well as the obsession with the will of the gods. I feel like the gimmick is great, but what they did with it is kinda lame. Rune puzzles?! Running through fire? bleah!

      My younger brother suffers with psycosis, has been diagnosed a paraniod scitzaphrenic, he's been in a cycle of failing to take his meds, getting sectioned, getting medicated and then failing to take his meds, been like this for 4/5 years. He was a promising programmer that had the world at his feet. Wish there was something i could do to help.

      The Rune puzzles are a very important part of a symptom of psychosis called delusions. Many people with schizophrenia start making connections and finding patterns in places where they don't exist. It's a very common symptom. So that's why it's a puzzle game with runes in a language that our protagonist doesn't know... They explain this in the behind the scenes featurette. You might not have experienced this type of delusion... There are a couple of different common types... But what they showed in the game is still a very common delusion. They, unfortunately, didn't have enough money to expand the combat system so they really had to play into the puzzle aspect of the game. I'm assuming the sequel will have a more fleshed out combat system as it has a very significant increase in budget.

    Hey Cowboy, just a headsup on something that isn't explained well in the game. If the voices in your head call out "behind you" or "look out" during combat if you tap parry you will block the incoming attack from the side or rear. You don't need to keep strafing to keep everyone in view. Makes the combat flow a lot smoother

    Never got into Hellblade when it came out. Looked interesting, but also...frustrating. Anyways, I had no idea that the face model for Senua was also one of the production editors for the game. Apparently, they just asked her if she would like to do this, and she said "sure."
    And that snowballed into a major thing with the production of the sequel. She's doing her own stunts for the sequel, and did a bunch of fight training. I thought that it was really cool that she was just a regular nerd like anybody else.

  • @Axetwin
    @Axetwin 2 роки тому +2

    I like that the voices warn you about an incoming off screen attack. A lot of other games of this type would just hit you with it and say "you should've anticipated that attack, your fault if you died".
    I thought for sure the solution to that third glyph puzzle was you had to set everything on fire first THEN find the shapes in the flames. That would've sucked, if that was the case.
    This game is not what I was expecting based off what I've heard about it.

    • @AnxietyRat
      @AnxietyRat 6 місяців тому

      It's a collectible, technically... And yes, a significant amount of people miss it... You're kind of game mechanic wise supposed to go to the other door first for the face to make sense... But even those who have picked the other door first usually still miss the wterfall face... I think I've only seen a handful of people catch it.... I'm not really sure why they gave the players an option to choose as the storyline flows better when choosing one over the other first. 🤷‍♀️

      My grandmother had Schizophrenia Bi-polar disorder. Occasionally she would hear voices, and conversate with the voices. It is possible everything is included, mixed in with stories of Nordic gods/goddesses, highly likely a great deal of divine tendencies are also involved on top of our modern understanding of psychology.

      They had a really really small budget and so they really focused more on the visuals of the game and the storytelling in the game... So it looks VERY pretty like a AAA game despite being made by indie developmers ...and the story is good. It is not a combat focused game... It has a very VERY simple combat system because of buget issues. If you want to call it boring because of that then I guess this isn't the right game for you... 🤷‍♀️

      @AnxietyRat 6 місяців тому

      @@DarBear95 I'm just stating what the developers of the game have said in interviews that they did want to focus on the visuals and make it a very pretty game... They also mainly focused on story which is absolutely also a part of gameplay...it means that combat was unfortunately the thing that had to suffer and become simplified... They said that they did have a couple of ideas for a more complex combat system but they did not have the budget to be able to implement those ideas in this game, unfortunately. Which is why I hope that will be able to do that in the next game with the budget increase they have received. I never said that they focused on visuals MORE than gameplay... But they did focus on visuals and gameplay significantly more than the combat system.

      That's very accurate for pict culture lmao they did research into the way Senua would have looked historically and made sure every aspect of her look was accurate. Creative director says "they [the Picts] put lime in their hair, that would clump up and give them this dreadlock look". So I guess the "excuse" is historical accuracy
