Do you have to use that reflective tape or can you use other tapes as well?
Marty, Thanks for contacting the Master Gardeners. I’ve used different tapes and found this one to be the best. You want to make sure it can be easily removed from the bark of the tree.
Hello! I have recently transplanted my 19 year old rubber tree in an emergency situation, as my complex that I've lived in for 16 years, is renovating the area it was in. The tree had grown out of its pot and rooted into the ground. I took time to dig as deep as possible to access the two lateral roots that had anchored, then when I was unable to dig deeper, the roots both, that had become about pencil size in circumference broke cleanly. I kept them wet and after busting the bottom of my pot out to remove the root ball and those two long roots, I brought my tree with help, to a new temporary home, in a large pond liner shell filled with new tree soil. I mixed in some of the earth that he has been anchored in. I drilled hole for drainage and watered him first day with about 6 gallons of water and today, about 4 gallons with free aloe juice blended in. I poked large holes in the soil for aeration, with a stake. I am concerned about the upcoming days and what I may be able to do to help the transition and shock he is experiencing, as I noticed his limbs look as rough they've begun drooping. I also noticed ants and am suspecting that is because of the water. Do you have any advice to me in my effort to save my tree? Thank you, ahead of time..
*fresh aloe juice> typo correction!
Thank you for your video. Question: What if the trunk grew bigger, would the tape do any good?
You need to replace the tape regularly because it gets dirty and covered with ants. So tree growth won’t be a problem.
I've tried peppermint oil and now reverse duct tape; those little boogers for a line of stuck ants to make a bridge. I am ready to quit before I waste anymore time.
Is there anything similar to tanglefoot that can be used
Nothing that I know of. Tanglefoot is the right product for the job.
Nice tips for keeping ants away from trees
I live in florida where we have small anoles....would tanglefoot capture the anoles? I wouldn't want that to happen...
Mia, check with gardening experts in your area to learn what to do about anoles.
@@ucmastergardenersofsanluis8276 I think you misunderstood....I was wondering if tanglefoot was sticky that it would catch anoles.... I DO NOT want to hurt or catch anything other than the ants...if tanglefoot is that sticky I am not interested....sounds like the incredibly cruel sticky traps...but was asking if maybe it isn't that sticky....
@@miakrauss555 I don’t know if it will catch your small anoles. Tanglefoot doesn’t effect any small lizards on trees in my area, but I’m not sure how small and vulnerable the anoles are. That’s why I recommend talking with someone in your area who is familiar with them.
@@ucmastergardenersofsanluis8276 ....so if they don't catch yours, ours are very small and delicate and don't want to hurt them. tnx
Thank you for that information!
Informative
Thank you for sharing. I have a grapefruit tree that is being eaten by ants. I will follow your advice. I’m certain it will help.
Thanks madam for giving very useful tips.
we can use of honey of tree aphids like of ants.aphids need not to flowers too.
The ants wiped out my fruit tree leaves - will try this old trick 👍🏼👍🏼 thank you
how do I get rid of the ants that are already on the tree
Since ants go up and down the tree, using Tanglefoot blocks their path, interrupts their flow and eventually gets them out of the tree.
