Ren let us in on where he is coming from and where is is going in this gem. As far as a recommendation, I love pretty much every solo and collaboration Ren has done so that’s hard! I’d say his work on Demos Volume 2 is what I listen to most, then anything by The Big Push. Of course, his collaborations with Chinchilla, Sam Tompkins and Liv Sangster are all top notch too!! I love all his references to his heros. You can tell his pallette is huge. You have John Frusciante, then Syd and Nancy Vicious , then Nat King Cole. I love the way he throws those names in his songs. It shows a deep appreciation.
This song is SO positive. It's always there when I need a lift. It's also one of Ren's personal faves. Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. This was written shortly after Ren split off and went independent. Love the Doc! He turned me on to you, and am SO glad I came over!
If you really, *really* want to hear him being real, listen to his Bittersweet Symphony retake. It's him rapping over the beat of that song by the Verve, similar to how his Losin It was set over FISHERs popular EDM beat. It was good enough that a Verve band member sent him a guitar and ended up Ren's longtime friend. So, yeah. You'll have a good time.

If you want to react to some of his deeper stuff, then the song Crutch is a song he did when he was super sick and didn’t know he had Lymes disease yet. At that point he didn’t know what was wrong with him and he was so tired and his body was so sick. Also, his song with Chinchilla, How to be Me, is dedicated to his best friend that jumped off a bridge. Apparently someone called him and told him that his best friend was about to jump. He ran to the bridge in the middle of the night as fast as he could, but he was about five minutes late. They never found his friends body. Suicide and For Joe is also dedicated to his friend. Ocean and Humble are great songs to react to as well.

I'm pretty certain it will have been around the time you posted this, that Ren became the first fully independent artist to have a number 1 UK album, knocking Drake off the top spot in the process. It also topped the US hip-hop album chart and the worldwide iTunes chart and went top 10 in several other countries. So that line, about never having a top 10, is somewhat redundant now! :) Not bad as he wasn't able to tour or to properly promote his work, due to his health problems. In fact he wasn't even in the country! He was in the middle of 18 months of intensive treatment in Calgary, Canada. :)

I don't think this is on the Album, he does say this was an important song, as it was the first he did after an unpleasant break with his management company. It was when he took power himself over his career.
Every time I see this video I can't help staring at the void behind Sam's head. His drivers side rear passenger headrest is missing and I can't help but wonder where has it gone? Every time I see this video I can't help staring at the void behind Sam's head. His drivers side rear passenger headrest is missing and I can't help but wonder where has it gone? Did someone steal it? Did the headrest run away to join the circus? Did it develop a drug habit so now it walks the streets at night selling it's body to get money for crack?
