    I love your flying videos sir! I am looking to order a Rans S-21 in the coming year or two (I have been planning for a while). I live in western Wisconsin and would love to come check out your plane and maybe go flying with you sometime. I also have a 2016 KTM SuperDuke 1290r that I've owned since new, so it seems you've got hobbies that align with mine haha. I am a UH60 pilot in the WI Army National Guard and an FO at Sun Country, so I am staying local here for sure! I'd love to get in touch and meet up sometime if possible. Thanks!

      Yeah man. I just might see you in the cockpit some time. Would love to rip the KTM’s as well.

    Where in Minnesota are ya??? Would love a ride some day I'm thinking about building one of these! Also any regrets on the Rotax choice? Thanks!

      About 40 minutes south of MSP of 35. No regrets with the 915. Rans had some growing pains with making the FWF stay cool but they’ve sorted it out nicely. Even if you don’t fly high the motor is buttery smooth and will sip 3.5-4 gph which is roughly 40% power yielding 75-85kts. Or faster should you choose.

    On your takeoff…did you have flaps down before your roll or bring them in at rotation? Thanks for sharing! Beautiful area👍🏼

    • @Captndarty

      I had them in place before the roll. 3rd knotch helps get the tail up sooner with less stick force. Same forces happen at long landing rollouts

      @@Captndarty , thanks! Great looking S-21! Loving mine!

    Love your airplane! The paint scheme looks awesome! Are you happy with the rotax engine? Hard choice between it and the titan.

      Thank you! I am totally happy with Rotax. It’s so smooth and so simple to operate and cheaper to operate than the Titan. Plus I have the advantage of flying in the flight levels.

      Awesome. Did you have much tail wheel time before the S21? I’ve had an A36 for 20 years or so. I’m wanting to transition to an airplane like the S21.

      @@tomjett111 I had about 20 hours or so but I fly heavy metal and it was over 10 years since I really flew a GA aircraft. Took me a lot longer to get comfortable in the 21 than it did for me to solo my first time around. very precise, sensitive Squirrley little airplane relative to pipers or Cessnas.

      @@Captndarty Yea, I'm sure that took some getting used to! Can't imagine how that would feel. For me going from the A36 to the S21 will feel very different. I put a down payment down a year or so ago. I'm not in a hurry. I'm hoping Rans starts a build assist program. When I talked to them quite a while back they were hoping to at some point.

    • @Captndarty
      @Captndarty  2 роки тому

      @@tomjett111 they have started the program. Not sure in the wait times tho. The S21 is so light on the controls compared with the rock steady A36 which for its size is also light. Perfect world I’d have both.

    Great Videos! I have a nearly identical S21 and love it. Your distinction between pure bush plane and utility plane if good for folks to hear: far greater versatility.
    My stall speeds match what you've written. I put VG's and they helped low speed handling. I'm running 27.5" Desser Tires, which I like, but they demanded double puck brakes. Question time! Have you thought about door locks? When I'm flying far afield I really need the security of a locked up airplane. Has anyone put them on a Rans? Also, I like the look of your sun visors. Where did you find them? I need some badly! best, Nick

      Thanks for the comment. Are you running the 915 as well or the Titan?
      I haven’t heard or seen anybody put locks on our plans as of yet.
      Did you see any decrease in speed with the vortex generators? I ceramic coated mine, so adding them would likely be very difficult as they wouldn’t stay adhered.
      Axia alloys is a side-by-side off-road company which makes the visors. They are awesome

      Thanks for the link! I have a 915, 75” airmaster..VGs were a big help in low speed control. I didnt notice much penalty in speed. Im about to install aerosport wing tips for reducing stall speed, I hope! They sent me come impressive data!

    • @Captndarty
      @Captndarty  Рік тому

      @@MrPtNick I know Rans states 35 mph for stall but all I can get is 41kts full flaps and 42kts no flaps. I ceramic coated my plane so VG’s won’t stick to them unfortunately. I wish Rotax would allow a flash for the increased hp of the 916. Oh well…
