Can't believe the coaches are teaching them to be quitters. Wrestling coaches will tell you never go down without a fight. I've been intimidated by ripped shredded dudes during weigh ins, but at fight-time, I'm ready for war. Sometimes I lose, but sometimes I surprise myself and pin the guy.
This coach is teaching his students terrible life lessons, even if they're the underdogs. ESPECIALLY if they're the underdogs.

As someone who lives near the school, they have been shrouded in controversy as they are a private school that recruits the biggest and best athletes from around the state, and plays in a conference of tiny small town schools way undersized. This is not a matter of schools being scared, but more of a protest of what that school is doing, and how they are seeded unfairly

Uhh probably because it's a health hazard? Archbishop is a private school so they're allowed to recruit while the other school's are public so they can't. Archbishop has players that are over 6'6" 250+ lbs while the biggest guys in the other team in the division is 6'2" 215 lbs.
How would you feel knowing your 5'10" 180 lb 16 year old son is facing kids that are bigger and stronger than most grown men?
Throw away If a kid wants to play football they should be aware of the health hazards. You're not always gonna be the biggest kid, you have to live with it and play anyway

When I played football we sucked like we held the record for the most losses over a six year period. I remember playing a team that went on to go deep into the playoffs , we still played them and we lost big 63-0 , but quitting was never an option. Not a great lesson to teach in sports , I learned life lesson from football that have helped me in life still to this day.

But the point is that life is competitive. You will always encounter people that are richer, smarter, more talented than you but you can’t just surrender to them before the competition even begins. If you were applying for a job and the guy that you were going against went to a much more prestigious school than you did, are you just going to say “This guy is clearly much more qualified than I am so we can skip the interview and you can just give him the job over me” That wouldn’t make sense.

Spectrum Mobile I live in Washington and I can tell you that this School plays in western Washington where the schools there aren’t that good at football but are better at soccer, where I live, in central Washington, football is more competitive and I can tell you that Archbishop Murphy wouldn’t be undefeated in central Washington.

well if you won your first three games 170-0, then you obviously need to move up a division. the divisions are there to ensure that teams play other teams at their own level. 170-0 over three games is not at your level.

Except what level a high school is in mostly depends on the size of the school itself not the skill level of the athletic teams.
People here are upset about the other team's forfeiting, but everyone would be horrified if I got to wrestle 13-14 year olds when I was a wrestler at 16-17 and ragdoll them around the mat. But they don't realize that the size difference is insane between a school that recruits and other 2A highschools. New flash guys...2A is full of TINY schools. Absolutely tiny. They not only recruit in a league full of schools that can't recruit. They recruit in a league full of schools so small that they probably have linemen under 180 pounds.

There's actually a documentary on HBO about a similar situation revolving around St. Francis Academy in Maryland. Teams in their area refused to play them so they played their entire schedule on the road. Traveling to places such as California, Florida and Illinois. The documentary is called The Cost of Winning

Clearly the person who wrote this article has no idea what high school football is. A few years back the top divisions 4x state champions from Alaska came to Texas to play a mid division (3a) team and was beaten 70-0. That same Texas team only made it to the semis. So clearly this Seattle team just doesn't play anyone with any talent at all, probably because if they did they'd get smacked 70-0.
Well there the best team in the state besides the Seahawks. And I went to one if there games a few years ago and they looked like a nfl team

I would be embarrassed to play for one of the teams that forfeited, way to let the coaches teach the kids about adversity. I get that they were allowed to recruit players and other teams weren't and they refused to move up a division, but as in life it isn't fair, this was the perfect teaching opportunity for those coaches but they blew it, also the other coaches refusing to move up a division and teach their kids about adversity as well, everyone in this situation is wrong
Cade7501 while it does appear weak to forfeit because "life isn't fair" it was for safety. The kids signed up to play football, true. But they are kids. We don't want kids breaking arms and legs as well as getting concussions because they played a team that was so much bigger and stronger than them. These kids have the rest of their lives to live. No single game is worth risking that.

Archbishop Murphy is a private school so they can recruit the biggest and best talent within a 50 mile radius. They are a big fish in a small pond. All the other schools in their league cannot compete with them it's not even close I've seen them on tv and in person. It's like watching a college team play a jr varsity scout team. The league over there needs to shake up things up and put all the private schools in their own division.
Just some extra info, I went to a high school very close to AMHS. The reason all teams were forfeiting was because their school was allegedly illegally recruiting players to their school, and thus the coaches from other teams wanted no part in that. I'm not sure if those allegations were true, but that was a large part why many teams forfeit their games to not play against them. And also yea they would get slammed.
they are 100% true. If you look at where half those kids are from, it’s not Washington. Most are from Cali, Texas, and Alabama. They’re a private school so they can get away with it because Washington doesn’t have any rules against Private schools recruiting. That’s a reason why Eastside Catholic is so good too. They don’t have to follow the same rules yet they get to play in the same division.

It sounds like they just need to be put in a higher division. My school was AAAA but in the state we have A to 6A so they just need to play against schools who have more students. High School football pretty much boils down to how big your school is because a school of 2000 is gonna have more giant kids than a school of 150 by sheer statistics.
Play our teams down here in Florida, or better yet, go to Louisiana and play one of those hood teams

This is ridiculous.... We have a team in our area that outscored teams 227- 7 in the first 3 weeks. If the parents are scared about the "Big Kids" They shouldn't have signed their kids up for High School Ball. What a lesson to teach kids

LOL same thing with my son's U-14 soccer team, undefeated in Toronto,Canada for 2 years, thats a record of 46-0. The coach then told the team that they should go and compete against American teams in the USA. They went to the high-tier Bethesda Tournament and New Jersey's EDP Tournament were only regional champions were allowed to attend. My son's team steamrolled over the Americans and Mexican teams in the tournaments and brought the 2 cups home. Here at home other teams forfeited games instead of playing us.

I played for Saint John Bosco as a freshman I was 5’6 170 pounds started at inside linebacker. I went against 300+ pound o-line all the time in the trinity league. Never be afraid always use leverage.
I think the craziest thing is that the kid they interviewed that was 6’8 there, just got drafted.
