The number of interceptions in this game shows how important the coach knowing the opponents playbook was. I still can’t believe he coached the Raiders the year before, went to the Bucs and then ended going to the Super Bowl 😂😂😂
Psycho actually played the role of Gannon during practices. Lined up under center and called out their plays in their language (that the new coach refused to change) 😂
Yep, had to re-watch these highlights to see which performance was more dominating. Still can't be 100% sure. I think holding Patrick Mahomes and the chiefs to NO TOUCHDOWNS is incredible, but picking off Rich Gannon so many times and shutting down Jerry Rice...also incredible
The offensive impotence was the reason they hired Gruden. I was happy when Dungy won with the Colts, but damn, TB's offense was so bad. Even at times during the 2002 season with new and better offensive playcalling the Bucs couldn't really score.
That was one of the worse beat downs in Super Bowl history. That Bucs defense was unbelievably fast, and they had the best front 7 in the NFL too. Warren Sapp and Simeon Rice were tremendous and both required a double team. Sapp usually got it in the middle and that left Rice one on one which he usually blew through. I was at Raymond James Stadium earlier that year and saw them pick off Brett Favre 4 times in a game to determine who had the best record in the NFC at the time. You would have thought Oakland would have changed some of their offense up better since Gruden left, but they did not do a good enough job disguising it. John Lynch and Derrick Brooks were yelling the plays out as they were being run! Dexter Jackson and Dwight Smith both had 2 picks and Brooks had 1, and 3 were for pick 6. In the NFC Title game Ronde Barber had a pick 6 to end it against the Eagles... As for the predictable plays...That is on the Raiders.
Stuart H And just when it looked like they were starting to come back, another pick 6 kills any chance. Though it is a shame how it looked like the Bucs would be legit for a while, but sadly, no such luck. Same for the Raiders, despite losing like this.
If you really think about it though, this game could have been an epic collapse. Remember, if Oakland gets those first TWO 2 point conversions then on the 3rd TD they could have kicked an XP and it would have been a 1 score game in which they ended up getting the ball back as well, it just resukted in a Derick Brooks pick 6 but thats because they were desperate down 13. I would have LOVED to have seen that be a 1 score game when Oakland had the ball towards the end. As well as the Bucs played, just think about that. It really came down to two 2 point conversions while the bucs were up 34 to 3 LATE in the 3rd. Great defensive performance nontheless.
That 2002 Buccaneers Defense was unforgiving. Sadly, this game was their last playoff win, though that may change with Brady and Gronk this year. But I doubt they'll make the Super Bowl, since it's scheduled to be played in Tampa.
Thanks for the time stamp. Great catch indeed. Granted with how well the defense played in this game, even if a Tampa receiver did that, it’d still probably be overlooked by the picks.

Including the playoffs, 11 of their 13 wins were by at least 2 touchdowns and 6 were by 20 points or more. They were also OLD. REALLY OLD. Rich Gannon was their all-pro and MVP of the league quarterback. He was 37. Jerry Rice caught 92 passes for 1,211 yards and 7 touchdowns. He made his 13th and final pro bowl at age 40. Their other HOF wide receiver caught 82 balls for 930 yards at age 36. On the other side of the ball their safety, HOFer Rod Woodson, made his 13th and final pro bowl and was named to his 6th first team all-pro at age 37. Psycho Bill Romanowski made 91 tackles at linebacker and was 36 years old that season. You would've thought Rich Gannon was playing for the Bucs 😆
I think this the best buccaneer uniform
Anyone came back here now that The Buccaneers are in the Super Bowl
so ridiculous Raiders would have won another super bowl but end up having to play against the actual coach that built the Raiders team and knew the playbook better than the new Raider coach.
Must’ve been hard for madden to announce this game
This one is a fever dream for me
My cousin, a raiders fan, committed suicide shortly after this game
The bucs almost blew a 34-3 lead. Raiders had a lot of momentum but the bucs defense held up.
And thankfully, that 2nd to last Pick 6 killed any chance of a comeback.
@@RYMAN1321 bucs special teams put them in that momentum swing, big weakness back then awful.
If that was the case nobody would talk about the falcons lol.
Raider fans ought to thank Al Davis for this loss. The moron who got rid of a head coach who guided the Raiders to back to back post seasons and a possible back to back afc championship game appearance if not for that tuck rule incident @ New England.
Came to check to see if the new uniforms looked like the old ones from this super bowl
Different.
Had to go back to watch this after they knocked out Green Bay
Wow what a game. Especially out in the cold frew
Cold frew?
And we are back
Awesome Super Bowl XXXVII victory for the Buccaneers! But how come Dwight Smith or Derrick Brooks weren't the MVPs?? Both ran back Interceptions for a pick six. 🤔🤘
Didn't they give the MVP to the whole D?😉
This was the end of Gannon
This is the game is when I became a bucs fan.
FIRST NFC SOUTH TEAM TO GET A HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE SUPER BOWL!!!!
Are you talking about Super Bowl 55? Because that was the first NFL team ever to get home field advantage, not just NFC South.
Tampa Bay the first to win the SB in the south* ya welcome
Forget Brad Johnson. The Bucs could have won this game if Rob Johnson was playing quarterback
