This was a big help for me, I have a DJI Air Unit out of an old drone I am going to put in a RC car for my DJI fpv goggles and this crossfire setup will work perfectly with using a thumb style radio for the controls which I am more comfortable with. Thank you again for the video and great job!
The summit is a wery versatile rc car, wery good as a crawler with it's soft tires and differential lockers. Some modifications and you can get a extreme racer. I own a car like this, mamba engine setup with 6 cell lipo, change to road tires and lowering the suspension a lot and change gearing you easy get 50+ mph. You also should consider change to a brushless motor setup, you get way more runtime and can drive wery long distances.
Andy, did you ever do any range testing with the 4G setup?? Really interested to know the results as ive done many miles line of sight with my wings but am looking for ground pounder options for long range which is a while new kettle of fish! Cheers Dave
I have to give you an Insta like for doing your best to achieve your goal. I give more points if the FPV is protected inside the body. I deduct if the body has been altered allowing water to pass through. Yet this is not that kind of competition and I'm awarding you for fearless skill.
Ok so question, is there a way I could use an fpv RC truck to drive inside of some of the drain pipes at work. I cant really find any answers online. I'm curious as to what i would need. Would i need to drop some kind of antenna down somewhat into the pipe to feed signal back to the goggles and remote?
Andy: You have certainly tapped in to some interesting and potentially powerful features of your (may I call it a Rover?) and substituted multiple components to correct for deficiencies (new and separate batteries, servos, pan/tilt servo, recording, HD camera, minismart phone, etc). I still need to read and study the links you provided in your video summary and review your video to fully understand what you did. Perhaps in your next video in addition to your outdoor demonstration, you can carefully review each of your mods, and link to them in a table of contents inserted into your text summary. I think you have discovered a whole new set of unique functionalities not demonstrated in Rover-type vehicles before to my knowledge. Keep going for the gold and sharing with the rest of us. A list of your component sources and their cost would be very helpful for those of us who would like to copy your effort. Respectfuly, Jim
Can you make this thing to work with Raspberry Pi for cellular network for traveling where you want! Something like MQTT realization, I don't know... just thinking... :) for range 20-30 km .... it will be cool if you can do that! Or something through radio repeater... I think this type of video will be watched a lot, at least I would

Crazy, I'm just researching videos before I start a 1/5 rovan lt360 rebuild. I'm swapping reciever for r9 and plan to use with my xlite with r9 module, however I want to incorporate a fc so I can use betafight to configure lights, and most important OSD, only video close to what I want to do, great video
That looks solid. Love the roll cage. I used a servo splitting adapter coming strait off the stock receiver, to add an additional servo that allows the camera to look back and forth at the same rate as the cars steering servo. Working good so far but a stationary view is easier to navigate.

Good point, got to remember about the fun police. Can't have anything that's fun in our "Great" Britain. Mr police officer says - "Have you got a licence and insurance for that rc car" lmao 🤣
I'm not actually that worried, I think of someone was stupid enough to try stealing it then a quick blast of the throttle and it would probably tear a lot of skin off 🤣 crossfire has backup battery which transmits GPS location for days as well, that would be a funny video!

What on earth was the point of the video you didn't even take it out and show how good or bad it works, too many people have access to the Internet smh
😂 you can’t say long range and then use DJI video ! Dji CAN NOT DO LONG RANGE !!! Nd I wouldn’t call that long range for crossfire either I have seen it go over 100km out and back I have personally done 26km out and back but you will never even get close to that range using that DJI junk !
I've tested 1.2Ghz on this setup and the range is not as far as DJI in land based applications. DJI has superior error correction and interference rejection so you will find it works better on ground vehicles. In the air no, 1.2Ghz analogue or 5.8Ghz will have longer range as it is not affected by the time delay that affects the DJI FPV system (its well documented). Don't hate on this stuff, at the end of the day we are all playing the same game. It's just a hobby 😜

Ne nice of there was a signal repeater that you could attach to a long range drone and have it fly a pattern above to extend range even further.
Cool! Probbably may use ExoressLES - it is cheaper, more compact and it uses same CRSF wired uart protocol as crossfire

One thing you could try would be reflective mirrors in a triangle on the bonnet. Maybe u can see left and right a little more then.

I would add a piston/antenna/arm thing (powered by a servo probably) to unflip it when it happens far away.

It's kind of a backup for when the DJI FPV loses signal.
