I was going to reply respectfully and tell you that this boat certainly isn't flimsy. Then I read through all your youtube comments and realised it wasn't worth the effort.

No problem. It really is a rigid boat, we use it as our main tender whilst cruising the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.
Sorry just my first reaction. But I went on the website and its pretty cool how it fold ups into the size of a surf board. All those stupid comments were my brother besides a few. Thank you for being courteous and listening to a jack ass like me.

Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it. I was thinking about the choice for the next tender, and Portabote seems the logical choice in that it doesn't require a davit system, and you can actually carry two tenders which many of us would like to do but almost impossible with inflatables. The only question was how easy it is to launch from the deck of the boat. I'm thinking of using Torqueedo motors that can be stored in lockers for the engine, and charge it while at sea.
Our next video will be of us assembling it on the back of our boat behind the mizzen. Unfortunately we are 'between' video cameras at the moment and are not able to put a clip together. As soon as we do, however, we'll post it up. I have no worries about being able to put it together and launching it from the boat using halyards. We did the same thing with our Tinker, which is heavier and more cumbersome.
Hi brimstone - yes, the panels do flex, that's part of the design. They flex to find the shape of the water passing under the hull. On my own I can go faster in the Portabote than I could my Tinker with the same 3hp engine. I am not sure this would be the same with two people, however, as the Portabote would sit lower in the water. Also I have had a sleeve made for the front of the boat to stop water getting in when going through waves. I have not tested this boat in rough weather, however.

How do you assemble the portabote when launching it from your sailboat ? Can you assemble the boat on board or can you assemble the boat in the ocean off your sailboat's transom ?
Excellent vid. How are you getting on with the PortaBote? Tried sailing yet? Looks rather un-stiff. Do the hull panels flex when you step on them? Will this slow down the boat when sailing?
Thank you ! and Yes I have. I see that the boat needs to be assembled on deck. I was wondering if there was a way to assemble the boat off the transom because the interest was to carry a portabote on a 33 ft sloop, and I'm not sure if there is enough area on deck to perform the assembly. But portabote in my opinion is the only choice for a tender on ships under 35 ft, and with electric motor you don't have to carry a gasoline, and the motor only weighs around 50 lbs. which is nice.
I always drop the transom in first, doing so will lock the bote open without the worry of it closing

+rehabaec [Liz] We loved our Portabote, and it served us well. But after the crash (see Ep.12 in the "From the Beginning" playlist) it was never the same. So when we decided to buy a new tender, we went for something more robust to get us through the big surf you can encounter here, and a dinghy which would take a larger outboard engine. We're very happy with the Highfield inflatable we have now. Cheers!
