I personally loved the ending and thought Eren was absolutely wonderful to watch grown and change, even if it became apparent as to went on that the change wasn't positive. Alot of folks hated the ending but I think that's because they allowed their own theories and ideas to take precedence over the actual narrative. AoT is a masterpiece. Is it perfect, no, but it deserves the hype and praise it receives. It's a nail biting, enthralling piece.of entertainment and the fact that you care so much is a huge testament. This video is very intriguing. Eagerly awaiting the analysis you're working on.
I agree. However, I'm still confused about the narrative. I have ideas about it. I know that Eren's story follows the victim to the aggressor mindset( which sadly does happen in the real world), but I feel like there's more to his character than I'm seeing. In season 3 and maybe earlier, his mind seems to be breaking( severe PTSD maybe), which might explain why he starts to cry a lot. I just wish the whole Grisha memory influx and the future memories didn't happen because I think it broke his mind even more. Or I'm just overly empathic/sympathetic towards a character who committed genocide. My pov of his character is that he's a tragicly broken 15/19 year old who never got to grow up. Or I'm just blind.
@@tjws255i think he can be both. Another angle I would like to propose is the act of sympathy towards Eren in terms of the fact that Eren seized to be a normal human being the moment he accessed memories of the future (which cannot be changed according to the logic of time in this show) as well as memories of those before him that didn’t belong to him (his father, and perhaps countless subjects of ymir up to ymir herself). Part of forming our own identity is our own understanding of memories that we have of our self and our own experiences. The moment Eren had access to the Paths where it is timeless and instantaneous at the same time, is the moment Eren lost a hold of who he is. And so my theory is he holds on to what feels most pure to him: the idea of being a boy seeking freedom, whilst committing a heinous act he knows neither himself nor others around him can and should forgive. I think Eren himself is aware of this contradiction. Yet he keeps moving forward, because to him, to be born in this world is to take action, in spite and despite of the flaws and limitations he has.
Oh it's definitely normal to be sympathetic to Eren. And that's mainly due to him being broken by what he did. If Eren remained convinced the Rumbling was a good thing, he'd be a clown. But him trying to go against the Rumbling until the last month of his life and then getting totally depressed makes him deeply human despite the horrors. Plus the moral compass which is Armin doesnt condemn Eren, but sympathises with him. @@tjws255
Also worth noting that by Eren's own moral logic, as a person committed to, and who ends up, killing innocent people(IE robbing them of their freedom) is himself a "an animal who deserves to die" by his own definition, which makes the ending a closed-loop satisfying his own principles.
Well he did say that his friends were free to protect the world's freedom. And he pretty much told them to kill him. So he was aware that he went beyond redemption and being saved. So he accepted their justice.
I don't know about one of the things you said. I'm pretty sure in season 3 Eren told Armin that he didn't think of anything or had any dreams until Armin showed him the book. He told Armin that he had an amazing dream that he never had before. I could be wrong. Thats why in the final episode Armin brought up the book because it was the root cause of Eren's freedom obsession.
Before he saw the book he was bored with life and he wanted something he just didnt know what (chapter 94 the final page) , after armin taught him about the outside world that was when he realized he wasnt free the actual things in the book didnt interest him much he just wanted to have freedom. (chapter 73)
@Ace_D oh OK. In the manga he does mention that he only thought of looking at the clouds which I'm just past that part. Anime wise I'm finished, manga wise I'm chapter 75. ( I guess he did say he always felt like he was in a cage.)
Which do you prefer Sub or Dub? I originally watched it in Dub because its easier to understand and follow. Now I'm re-watching it in Sub and I prefer Sub. The dialog is so much better. And Eren doesn't sound so mad all the time.
The dumb wasnt terrible but it wasnt good either imo, like erwin's va and Eren Kruger's VA were good. But Eren Yeagers VA doesn't fit him at all. Especially since in the sub erens voice is kaji yuki the goat va. Personally I never watch anime dubbed just because I like to have it as originally intended
@Ace_D I'm getting a new appreciation for original voice work. Mostly because I started buying Japanese, Korean and Chinese movies and I wanted to experience their art as intended. Same with anime but I'm actually newer to this art. I used to never care about it.
amazing video also i know that you're expiramenting and all, but i'd really recommend not making part 2s in general All the best, can't wait for part 2
I'm gonna drop the full video including a better version of this like u said I was experimenting. But u right part 2s aren't the best idea. I hope u like the video
Also it is true. I said isayama is eren jaeger. They are no different from each other. And this is why I find Eren jaeger the best MC there is. From my PPOV anyways. The MC in this anime is literally just the writer of the anime himself. Which is LITERALLY why AOT is THE BEST ANIME THERE IS!
What false narrative?? I'm pretty new to AoT. But I have finished the series. I know everyone has their own interpretations and opinions. I'm also reading the manga.
@Ace_D Alright. I'll admit I didn't watch the video in full so I could have missed something which now I know I didn't. The reason being is because every video I've seen that's only about Eren is usually pretty one sidded in the hate department. Sorry if that sounds unfair to you. Now don't get me wrong, I think it's good to have different views and opinions. But sometimes I just want an unbiased take rather you like a character or not. Though I will admit that the little I've seen of your video came off more sympathetic? Understanding? Fair? At least that how it sounded to me. I'll watch your video in full. If I came off as being rude sorry that was not intended. Sometimes I have off way of saying things.
@@tjws255 nah nah it didnt come off as rude at all dont worry. In this video i cover eren preseason 4. but in the full one that im currently working on i cover eren in the entire story I try to show him in the light that Isayama was trying to show. Im working on having the analysis be as true to the story as i can make it, and there is a section in the next video where I give my subjective take and my experience with the character but its just one section not the full video. Honestly thank you so much for ur comments!
One thing I'll admit is. I'm not so sure how to understand Eren's character. On one hand I find him relatable and on the other hand he's a little off. But in a understandable way. In my pov I never got the he's evil vibe even though you could definitely say the rumbling was an evil act. I just don't know. But what I can say despite what he did I strangely never stopped liking him. (I did have some oh Eren please stop moments. )I would say he's one of my favorite characters. But maybe in your next video some things would be more clear. Sorry for my long messages.
But also, I agree with erens POV bc why tf would you want to take away the freedom of someone who didn’t even do anything wrong to you from the start to even begin with?🤨that does sounds pretty evil. Someone takes away your freedom, don’t dare hesitate to take away theirs.
Can you elaborate how and why he couldn't understand the story, cause to me it seems that he's one of the few one's who actually comprehend the moral and fundamental aspect of the show.
