Azores Terceira Volcano Update; Ongoing Magma Intrusion, Alert Level Raised
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 чер 2024
- An intrusion of magma is now confirmed to be ongoing at a volcano in Portugal, specifically in the Azores Island chain. There, at the Terceira volcano, its alert level has just been raised after fresh ground deformation was detected. This follows a slow escalation which has been ongoing since mid 2021. This video will discuss the ongoing volcanic unrest and give context as to its intensity via the opinion of a geologist.

Hello from Terceira! Thanks for the update! As always your 5min videos are way more informative and clarifying than all the local authorities information combined. Lack of good information leads to ignorance, people get more unrest than the volcano itself and misinformation spreads as fire. Historically and culturally we have been exposed to seismic activity for so long but still so misinformed. Thanks again!
Hoping you all stay safe over there!
I hope this video is widely viewed there. Good wishes for the safety of all and that when the eruption eventually comes, it is not destructive.
Prayers for safety!!
I think we are more afraid of a big earthquake than volcanic eruption. 1980, never forget.
Please tell Sergio I said hello!
What a beautiful landscape! The risk of volcanoes is worrying but I can see why people would want to live there.
I have finally watched all of your videos. I thank you for your coverage of these events as well as the educational videos. The thing I appreciate the most, though, is the fact you actually encourage you viewers to be smart and to be safe/careful.
The intensivity of agricultural land use is amazing.
Yes, the Azores are almost entirely deforested, most islands only have a few % of the original native Laurisilva forest remaining. Thankfully the biodiversity of the Azores was pretty low, so not much was lost in comparison to other deforested islands. Apparently the produce from there is amazing.
I would love your take on Randall Carlson’s take on geophysics… not the archeological relevance, but the possibility of significant vertical tectonic displacements along the steps of the midatlantic ridge… areas like the Azores plateau

My neighbor is from Azores Terceira. He actually owns a gas station here with that same name. He and his wife usually spend their summers there, too, but I noticed they haven't left yet. I wonder if this is why? I'll have to ask him about it. 🤔
I love your channel!!! Seriously, I have been watching since 2021 and have always enjoyed your vids so I wanted to say thanks.
I find his videos so relaxing, even when there's exciting news. Such a wealth of fascinating info, too.
I would live here even though they are giant volcanoes.
Was fortunate enough to be stationed in Lajes on Terceira for a few months in 1988 while flying with the Navy. Such a picturesque island. I do recall a couple of minor tremors while there.
These islands are so fertile .
Well, I am at the azores (Terceira) next week for holliday... Very relaxing....
I was hoping to hear about the large earthquake that happened last night off th coast of Peru. It was a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that was pretty shallow at a depth of 17 miles
Thanks for all the hard work on these videos
Interesting and informative - thank you
OMG they terraced up the sides of the volcano. It's like a cubistcano.
I was waiting for this update!
I would love to visit the azores.
Ja też
Thanks as always, Geology Hub. While the situation has not escalated into an eruption yet, it must be watched.
wow what a beautiful place
My thoughts exactly!
Amazing video yet again
Hi! I live in Terceira island and yes, the last two years tremors are daily and stronger sometimes. Thanks for the vídeo. Very good.
Literally 2hrs later after this post, a 2.8(mag 3) stricks the area... Yeah, if I lived there I'd be making plans.
And 13 hours ago we had 5 more ranging from 2.6 to 3.0. in a span of 35 minutes.
@@batrax23 7hrs from this reply, another 2.1 ... I mean I know it's nothing to panic about, but I'd be on anxiety pills if I lived there.
Hi From Azores. We are ok. Big hug ❤
In my country, altough i live in the continent.Thank you :)
Such a pretty place.
Was just there this March 18-20 and went to the top of Santa Barbara. Never noticed any shaking and nobody mentioned anything about it. It's so damn windy there, so I'm surprised they were able to get drone footage.
Great video. I´ll be in Terceira next month.
Any updates on the big earthquake in chilie today?
Thanks.
Awesome news.
Dozens of old volcanoes have begun awakening around the planet. Is there a connection ?
...on going polar reversal...
There are over a thousand monitored volcanoes on this planet. Earth is a volcanic planet. This is normal.
I think information is so accessible it makes it look like we are having much more eruptions than before, its mostly an illusion.

How long until we have a year without a summer because of the 'canos 😅
I wonder what this island group looked like during the last glacial maximum
Yo , what about a vid about the deserts in Greece? 😊
Great job, kiddo!
Hi, tou know the location of the uplifts?
A scary view at 2:02, what looks to me like, off shore, a volcano with half missing.
😂 no no, don't worry, it's nothing sinister. That's the Cabras Islets. They're very cute. I'll be going to Terceira and staying very, VERY close to the Volcano next month. Can't wait! 😅
Can you do a video about the fish canyon tuff and the eruption that caused it?
There is a theory about the scandinavian winters in the 5th Century and the 9th century were caused by a Volcanic éruption in the atlantic Ocean. Some spéculate the island of Faial as it most likely resembled Pico island had a massive eruption which caused the current Caldiera and all the Ash along with dust from the matter thrown into the air caused these winters in the north from the wind directions. Could this happen with Terciera and if so would they have to évacuate the entire island or would it be a much smaller éruption. Localised.
Yo Dawg I heard you like Volcanic Scales!
Your mic has bugged again
Thanks for your great videos, it seems that volcanoes are becoming more active or waking up over the world
First we’ve had a moving geyser at the Salton Sea since 2018. La Palma volcano (hot spot), then Iceland volcano (fault separation), Hawaii volcano (hot spot) japan volcano - earthquake - tsunami and 800 year dormant volcano going off - the plates are moving.
Umm, they’re always moving 😊
Czytałam teorie, że Azory mogą byc pozostałością Atlantydy
