The adage "you fight like you train" is very true. 30 years ago I was doing a lot of Thai boxing training since I was having ring fights.(was with a Bruce Lee group.). Got into some street scraps during that time and my first instinct was to chop the legs down. And down they went, one guy after another. Legs kicks are great for the street, especially since most palookas aren't expecting them, nor do they know how to deal with them.
Muay Thai GrandMaster Surachai Sirisute who I have had the extreme honor of training under couldn't have explained it any better than you my Friend!!! LOVE the DOUBLE PALM STRIKE, as well as, the OFFENSIVE Elbow Head Guard SMASH as the initial entries then finishing up with that AWESOME Thai Kick of YOURS !!!jkd sifu mike goldberg ( Fort Worth, Texas )
I always thought the low kick was underrated in street fights if used smart. If you control the distance and position, and fire well-timed low kicks, most opponents won't know what to do, and if you have power, they will want to quit after 2 or 3 of those (or maybe even 1).
I did 6 to 7 years of muay thai with 4 fights in it and 2 in boxing. I can tell you, lowkicks are very underrated. Even in amateur thaiboxing. Most fighters there know how to throw a low kick ans how to defend a basic low kick. But amateur fighters cant really use it correctly (timing, rythm and placement). I won 3 out of my 4 thai fights with 90% low kicks. Just keep up my tight guard, used my lengh and punished all opponents attempts to close distance with a hard low kick. After two of 3 rounds, the fight was mostly like over, since the opponent could barely walk!
@@leonandre7210 at the end of the day I don't want to be on the receiving side of a well executed kick . Couple guys I train with rock you hard with a kicking shield and push you back a couple steps . Very thankful for padding lol

Nice one! Low kicks have always been my favorite! In the gym we had a nice and small group of people who would practice those kicks on the pad on eachother after the lesson and kick as hard as possible. Our favorite expression ‘die zat er goed op ‘ (that was a good one).😊 of course we used the newest/thickest pads we could find 😉
Having been taught this kick and being on the other end of it (kyokushin training), I got to say the downward motion makes a lot of difference. It's hard to explain but the pain comes from inside the leg rather than the superficial muscle, and landing 2 or even 1 good kick will incapacitate your leg for some seconds.
Very effective. I used that same technique growing up on the streets of Newark many times. I usually followed it up with a strike to the head or throat.
Low kicks are the most overlooked attacks since many people have been enamored with high kicks from the movies. A good kick to the side of the knees of even the most ripped or muscular guy will bring them down.
Really enjoyed that. Self preservation and not ego great advice there. It’s another one to add to the arsenal. When sparring I always use the jab cross really quick and as my right punch is coming back I let fly with the low thigh kick and it gets them every time. The transition has to be quick. Thankyou excellent video good for street love the shove idea then kick.
A top that may help, use less hand movements and keep your guard up. Feels counter intuitive and takes some training at first but it's a lot quicker, less telegraphing and keeps your guard up. Learnt it in Krav Maga and now have no load up time but can see a kick coming with plenty of time to teep the hip or return first.
...just a note too, I'm not shitting on your style, just offering something to try and see if it works for you. Anyone watching this, it's better than most UA-cam fight tutorial stuff I've seen. Logical over flashy. Good work.
I was once doing some friendly sparring with a friend and he kept on kicking me in the balls when he felt he was "losing". Instead of doing the right thing and stopping the sparring I did the immature thing and decided to teach him not to play dirty. I gave him one well placed full power low kick to the thigh. He was really mad but he was limping too much too want to fight. It works!
😳😳 H o l y S h i t 😳😳 Michel you stil amaze me 💪 As a Muay Thai fighter, i can most definitely certify your leg kick, i'm blown away by your skills, that kick is 100% correct, to those who aren't aware of the way of this kick, notice that when he lands it, the kick is coming a bit upwards and down, when it lands, there is a reason for this, and that is, this will stung the opponents leg muscles, it is the most vicious of kick to that side of the leg... Amazing 👑 👍 - Stay Blessed - 🙏❤✌
Im curious for street and self preservation, why not a front kick to gain distance? The low kick round is to disable them? Trying to understand, thank you
I’ve been thinking for a while now that low kicks are under rated for self defence. If someone’s face is broken, it can be very hard to defend in court, whereas a low kick will cause a lot of pain, but it’s a lot easier to argue that you weren’t using excessive force. They could also serve as a “warning shot”, causing enough pain to someone to make them reconsider attacking you.
So I'm not that flexible in my hips.I also have sore joints but I stretch and will Eventually be able to Whip my leg like that but until I cab do thst can I Rotate my hip over and swing or kick my leg in a Is upward motion or straight motion it's just hard for me to Move my leg up around and then down Fluently I can Rotate my hips and kick my leg Is upwards or even straight across In a fluent motion is that ok
I do Muay Thai and those leg kicks fuckin hurt! Great tool to take away mobility and drop the subject if done properly and they do not expect that follow up attack. Good stuff sir.
25 years Muay Thai (my background) . Whenever Thai trainers say the kick goes up and chops down is incorrect. If you did this the foot would smash into the floor. The kick chops across and through never down.
And still I teach it like that. In security we use this as a security kill. Very effective, also in the ring, very effective. It’s how my trainer taught us. I’m not saying it goes down. I’m saying it goes down in an angle a baseball bat will go down. Almost a 45 degrees angle if you like. If that makes sense to you. Always willing to hear the opinion of a 25 years Muay that practitioner.
At last! You will find very few videos that tell you the absolute basics of how to engage when it’s a question of fight or flight. Those guys are experts and so they can identify their targets and hit them with precision. This takes years of knowledge and practice but seems so easy on the screen. Almost all strikes are to the head and upper body and therefore also look impressive. These exercises are for the Dojo, not for street emergencies. Hitting others in the face is definitely not recommended - these days there are always those with phone cameras and that sort of evidence if the police turn up will always go against you initially - although it’s a natural instinct when we give in to our emotions instead of keeping focused on the main aim and that is to injure your opponent correctly so as to then go to the next phase which is flight. Dropping someone to the floor and then going down with them is also a no-no in the street, the most unsuspected individuals could join in and speed of execution is your goal. Now, the most important thing to keep in mind is that someone with an injured leg can’t run. This must be your priority: neutralize the leg. One leg is enough and the advantage is that there are two of them, versus one head, so you can choose whichever side suits you best. When confronted raise the arms as if to offer surrender. This catches the opponent off guard, keeps your head protected and also acts as an upper body stabilizer for the kick. Don’t kick with your toes out in front, much the same as with the hand; fingers and toes break with relative ease, that’s why punching isn’t recommended and open palm strikes are, use the heel instead. A sideways motion catching and displacing the kneecap is ideal. If you miss, you’ll at least have made the leg double sideways and if not breaking something is at least extremely painful; a straight blow to the knee will make the opponent feel sick and if hard enough will have them out of the game for long enough for you to get away. Also, on camera, it doesn’t show you to be either an expert or willing to inflict purposeful injury, rather a clumsy, spur of the moment way out. Now start practising at home so your “clumsiness” is highly effective. Like the man said, the more you do it, the better at it you are.
Haha you have never experienced anything for real did you?🤣 naaaah keep hitting the head if avoidance is not possible. Eliminate threat asap! Kicking is not doing anything except killing one’s mobility. IF you can generate enough force. So it’s not for everyone. You keep on kicking. You will find out the hard way. I have some police reports and real life footage of me hitting head hard!!! And guess what…I never been to jail for that longer than a night. Guess why…it’s was a life threatening situation and I did what’s reasonable and necessary!

I fully agree that a good muay thai low kick is great for street fight: 1. it is very painful, especially for those who do not practice muay 2. few people know how to defend against it 3. basically 1-2 kicks and the fight is over 4. no brain damage or possibility of fall after a conventional cross 5. you still stay out of range of punches or simply defend your head with your elbows whilst kicking 6. normally after a good low kick people by instinct tend to lower their arms - so a slap or a good old punch can end it all
Ive trained this kick for the street too. Love to see yr set ups here thanks, first time seeing. I adapted it from a muay boran downward slamming kick, much less painful contact area than the upward going muay thai kick.
I like it that even though you're throwing your arms around, at least they remain in generally defensive positions. Too many people flail their arms wildly to throw kicks.
The problem with the thigh kick is it's one of the few strikes where the opponent can simply flex and take the hit by adjusting their position or at least that's what I was taught in thai class. If you put your weight on the leg and flex the quad the muscle will protect the nerves from being badly jarred. On the other hand you cannot block a groin kick or a head kick simply by offering your groin or head to the opponent.
99% of street fights would end when that kick connects. If you don't spar regularly, (which most people don't), you'll not be able to stand after that. Yes I've been kicked like that and their shin went all the way to my femur bone. Didn't feel good
I like you and your approach. It’s NOT about ego or wanting to fight; it’s all about self-preservation. I am sure your kicks must feel like a baseball bat. I love the use of the elbows. It's very impressive yet can be done by everyone to their level ! Ty for the tips. You have a new subscriber.
I wonder how effective low kicks to the calf would be on very tall guys on the street? Since they’ve proven to be debilitating in mma, surely it would be a great tool for the street and low risk too. Could you make a video on the calf kick for the street and it’s application? Cheers from London
We have lots of nerves and pressure points all along the body. So any good solid, direct contact to soft tissue would definitely mess anybody up... I love the low kick its basic yet very effective, and have wrecked a lot of opponents using it.....
It works. I weight about 205 Someone I know tried to grave me. And he was at least 300 He came at me with that take down. I did the boxer stance. Then use my rear leg to get out of the danger zone. And as soon as I was out. I whent in with the kick. And it works These dude was literally like 6'5 He couldn't walk after that one. People ain't ready for that kind of punishment. It's like a tree hitting you. Hard. I been on a lot of street fights and leg kicks Is where it's at. There never expecting it. And it's painful. It's a big target , you can't miss it. Keep going strong with the leg kicks 💪

Got into some street scraps during that time and my first instinct was to chop the legs down. And down they went, one guy after another. Legs kicks are great for the street, especially since most palookas aren't expecting them, nor do they know how to deal with them.
He did not explain, but watch carefully how he turns his standing foot just before he kicks, so he has the most power.
Absolutely!
And you won´t hurt him too much, but he would have trouble to walk if you hit the right spot :D
@@Santeria78 Hurting them more is always better.
I would never use kicks up the belt or even knees of my opponent
For people who study education like me. You have very good teaching skills.
Much appreciated!
That looks way more brutal than standard round kick . Going to practice that one
Literally is a round house kick, just low

@TheGreekGod Physique chop up, watch Liam Harrison's low kicks
Very effective. I used that same technique growing up on the streets of Newark many times. I usually followed it up with a strike to the head or throat.
Sounds like a tactic to me! Thanks!🙏🏻
Lost count on watching this video over and over.
Thank you again for the tutorial.
Incredibly affective and powerful. 🤘🏻
Happy to hear that!
Low kicks are the most overlooked attacks since many people have been enamored with high kicks from the movies.
A good kick to the side of the knees of even the most ripped or muscular guy will bring them down.
Absolutely!
My buddy did one of those on me and even through the shield I walked limp for a week!
Awesome content as ever guys
Love the assessment part of the drill. I think that is much better than how drills are typically done. Also love your passion for teaching. :)

Mike your tie Kicks has brought urban combat to a new level👍
Excellent details and the street version to the side knee of your opponent is night, night for them. Solid details sir. Keep up the good work!!

I discovered your channel today. Very, very interesting.
Thank a lot!
that elbow movement you're doing is awesome, I'm always terrified, it's a good move, teacher
Thanks!
Thank you. I will train this combo and add it to my awareness.
Awesome!
Good work.
What an amazing teacher! Love these videos!

Absolutely
Imagine being in a fight and someone yells “take his mobility!” I’d be terrified
It works!
Haha good tactic
@Real Aiglon aside from being quite effective, low kicks are low risk

Michel you stil amaze me 💪
As a Muay Thai fighter, i can most definitely certify your leg kick, i'm blown away by your skills, that kick is 100% correct, to those who aren't aware of the way of this kick, notice that when he lands it, the kick is coming a bit upwards and down, when it lands, there is a reason for this, and that is, this will stung the opponents leg muscles, it is the most vicious of kick to that side of the leg...
Amazing 👑 👍

Quality work again dude. Proper technical delivery and excellent demonstration!
Thanks brother !
Im curious for street and self preservation, why not a front kick to gain distance? The low kick round is to disable them? Trying to understand, thank you
It’s a takedown as a low profile solution.
Excellent Video and explanation. I may try it next time working the doors
Don’t do it with the VIP guests. Gave me a lot of problems in the past. Apparently that’s not very hospitable. #snowflakes
@@schoolofselfprotection I know. They break pretty easily :)
extremely powerful..thanks
Thank you!

That Dutch low kick has made many strikers champions!

I do Muay Thai and those leg kicks fuckin hurt! Great tool to take away mobility and drop the subject if done properly and they do not expect that follow up attack. Good stuff sir.
Thank you teacher!
You are welcome brother!
@@schoolofselfprotectionwhere is your Dojo Sir? I train in a dojo in Jersey City NJ
@@schoolofselfprotection I said “at last” as a congratulation to your video. Very few online teachers recommend kicking the opponent’s leg. Also, when describing police intervention I said that “initially” you’d be regarded as a suspect, you’ve obviously been there by your answer. Of course life threatening situations demand you respond with all you’ve got. My recommendation is centered around getting out of there fast for those who can’t fight properly. Thank you for your reply and all the work you put in to offer others more opportunities.

This was a low profile solution. Not every job needs a hammer. Think low profile. It’s just a takedown. Knocking teeth out all the time is expensive.

Lekker!! Strakke lowkicks!! Ik vind zelf een afhoutrap ook gewoon fijn om uit te starten, maar een duw of elleboog zijn ook erg goede opties. Zeker als je de techniek zo goed onder controle hebt!

Mr. Trainer, sir, remember that this is indeed training. If mat guy doesnt make it out alive, who will be left to hold the mat???
Hahaha here we are…the “you probably have ego and you want to show how hard I can kick type of trainer” comment. That “mat guy” is my trainer partner too. Could you believe we always train hard and we always hit hard in our training?? Can you believe that we both have our ego in check? Because you train different it doesn’t mean we should. @@schoolofselfprotection Easy man. I didnt mean it like that at all. I only meant it from a purely comical viewpoint. I wasnt thinking about ego or anything like that at all.
I think youre an awesome trainer who trains people for real life, self defense scenarios. If I took classes and had a trainer, I would want him to be just like you. I would want to train with intensity and with force.
Training should be intense. That way, if a real world scenario hits you, it wont be such a shock and hopefully that muscle memory from training will kick in.

I fully agree that a good muay thai low kick is great for street fight:
1. it is very painful, especially for those who do not practice muay
2. few people know how to defend against it
3. basically 1-2 kicks and the fight is over
4. no brain damage or possibility of fall after a conventional cross
5. you still stay out of range of punches or simply defend your head with your elbows whilst kicking
6. normally after a good low kick people by instinct tend to lower their arms - so a slap or a good old punch can end it all
Thanks! Great points!
Aluno morrendo de medo de levar uma porrada certeira. Parabéns ao mestre, excelente explicação.
Nice technique.in street fight i used front kick.very effective
Awesome!
Thanks!
That’s why the push is added. Timing is key.
