The first time I remember ever going fishing, I was probably about 4, and we went crappie fishing. I caught 11 in just a couple of hours or less.
Strangely, my Dad gave me my first rod and reel that day, and went with spinning gear instead of the more usual for kids spin-casting rig. I've been partial to spinning gear ever since.
Oh, yeah, we ate the crappie we caught (my grandmother cooked them). Crappie is some damned fine eating, in my book.
Only time I’ve had them was taking the whole fish, shoving it in foil with lemon, salt, pepper, and oil, then smoking it. Damn good
@@josephkempinger Yep, most sunfish are good eating, but crappie is a cut above the rest. Surprises me that you don't see them farmed and sold in the grocery store. Maybe it's all the little bones.

I fillet them completely boneless.
@@AlphaQHard Definitely the way to go. As good as any other white fleshed fish there is, better than most.
Got a 2 pound crappie and won 500 bucks... just got the rod and reel set up of my dreams.
I love a slow retrieve. Even stopping for a sec at times
I recently bought a cruckhopper lure and a real small minnow lure. I just kinda toss em out a shake it and it's been getting chomped. Only problem are the bigger bass getting hooked on the light gear near all the snags
Crappie is DAMN good eating.
Most crappie I ever caught was 200 in 2.5 hours. That was on a bobber and a tiny jig. Nothing substantial in size but the numbers made up for it. I don’t usually bobber fish anymore though strictly tight line and retrieve
Caught sixty pumpkinseeds in an hour once on ultralight gear and small jigs. They were small, but they hit hard and fought ferociously. Lot of fun on that rig. Pretty much catching one almost every cast.
i use minnows, never had any luck with jigs

Love it this time of year! That's a good fish!
I've been dwn there an catch 10. 5 one day 7, 9
Nice fish on the lite setup, congratulations.
When using spin gear, if you continue to reel the handle in while the fish is pulling out drag, it creates line twists which then result in wind knots, very frustrating.
Hope this helps !
Happy fishing 👍
Nice Avid great fishing
Me, in Utah waiting until late May for the water to hit 60 degrees.
Casting a single jig works the best for me too. I tried casting double jigs, but never had the best luck with the rig.
I’ll use it with 1/32 oz jigs. They’ll even hit both. But I still use just one myself. Cast jogs for every damn thing.
I do better in heavily pressured lakes with one jig and 2# fluoro, however in lakes with aggressive fish and healthy populations I bump up to 4-6# line so I can tie loop knots for the double rigs. In really good lakes a double jig is a must cause there is times you’ll catch 2 on one line.
How is this tightlining when you're casting and retrieving?
60 is cold Jesus my house sits at 65. Don't think cold would be an ideal word.
what bait were you using
Lol, I catch slabs in colder water with a tube or jig..
Nice
One out three
A predator is a predator and crappie love way colder water. Well done learning is always great spreading knowledge even better 😎✌️
No they don’t
@@rockyv1934 they definitely do. They’re mainly a cold water fish.
What’s that boat called and how much is it?
nice
I've never had a fish peel drag. I keep my shit pretty taught so it uses the line strength & rod and just reel them in asap. Lost very few fish that way.
Tried lighter drag and it seems like they have way more chance to play you & get off. A fish under 5 lbs ain't gonna break 6lb test if you handle em right so I'm confused why people let their fish run instead of straight reeling in
So you're learning how to fish good man
That's a "tank", pulls up something smaller than what we use for bait here in Florida 🙄
Bruh I'm glad I'm not the only one. Crappie guys out here getting adrenaline rushes on dinks.
A lot of times crappie do feel bigger than they are, especially if you use a real light action rod. What are you all catching in freshwater out there?
Where are good places to bass fish close to baton rouge?
Ummmm the Basin?
I don't believe in using corks or bobbers or anything to keep my bait in a certain column, I always cast out and let it sink to the bottom and then slowly work my way up by not letting it sink as deep and changing up my retrieval speed, it does the same thing and you can hit certain depths more accurate
That's a chub
Come to Wisconsin. If you think that's a pig ... well thats what we call a minnow. And the drag rippin? Cmon man...
Wisconsin has big fish in your dreams bud, your state records are TINY compared to southern states. There isn't a single fish that's worth a shit in Wisconsin besides Sturgeon. Everything else are DINKS. You can't even grow a double digit Largemouth in Wisconsin to save your life.
State record black is 4.5 lbs state record white is 4.9 lbs and bigger ones have been caught in state of alabama how bout there ??????😁
What rod and reel are you using
Paper mouth😁
can't see anything or the pole
Rip’n drag then boat lifts an 11 incher… Can’t compute. System shutting down to prevent overload.
Bro Its a fish not a pig why would a pig be under water. .....obviously jk you are lucky we don't have much crappie here I heard there great fried
Thats a nice speckled perch.
This is a fine way to fill a cooler but don’t throw away ur corks or floats as there called in my neck of the woods……
Anyone know some good crappie spots in and around Houston??
Try any old lakes or ponds at public parks if you have any, and keep your fishing license renewed for public land.
@@Ja2808R thanks bud💪💪 ill check it out
The proper term for a white perch is a slab…. Just saying.
Congratulations. You won a game of tug of war with a fish using the smallest rope possible
Strange what people call big. On Okeechobee you'd have to measure that one to see if he's a keeper. Barely
That's a tank and a pig for u huh? never caught one 2+ lbs huh?
My first ever was a 3.1 black crappie
2 BL bass is not a big
Crappie, not bass
Crappie???
Try some salt water fishing fresh water is to easy man!!
Agreed
Brian Quintero disagree.Targeting walleye and other fresh water takes tons of skill. Saltwater fishing can be very easy at times. And before you attack me. I live in Ohio have traveled and fished any place you can name in the America’s.
If you know what you're doing it's easy. Takes time on the water and a vessel to really take the fish you want.
Nice camo outfit for fishing.. wouldnt want a fish to see u
He CRAWEL!!?
