The first time I remember ever going fishing, I was probably about 4, and we went crappie fishing. I caught 11 in just a couple of hours or less.
Strangely, my Dad gave me my first rod and reel that day, and went with spinning gear instead of the more usual for kids spin-casting rig. I've been partial to spinning gear ever since.
Oh, yeah, we ate the crappie we caught (my grandmother cooked them). Crappie is some damned fine eating, in my book.

Only time I’ve had them was taking the whole fish, shoving it in foil with lemon, salt, pepper, and oil, then smoking it. Damn good

@@josephkempinger Yep, most sunfish are good eating, but crappie is a cut above the rest. Surprises me that you don't see them farmed and sold in the grocery store. Maybe it's all the little bones.

I recently bought a cruckhopper lure and a real small minnow lure. I just kinda toss em out a shake it and it's been getting chomped. Only problem are the bigger bass getting hooked on the light gear near all the snags

Most crappie I ever caught was 200 in 2.5 hours. That was on a bobber and a tiny jig. Nothing substantial in size but the numbers made up for it. I don’t usually bobber fish anymore though strictly tight line and retrieve

Caught sixty pumpkinseeds in an hour once on ultralight gear and small jigs. They were small, but they hit hard and fought ferociously. Lot of fun on that rig. Pretty much catching one almost every cast.

Nice fish on the lite setup, congratulations.
When using spin gear, if you continue to reel the handle in while the fish is pulling out drag, it creates line twists which then result in wind knots, very frustrating.
    Hope this helps !
    Happy fishing 👍

Casting a single jig works the best for me too. I tried casting double jigs, but never had the best luck with the rig.

I’ll use it with 1/32 oz jigs. They’ll even hit both. But I still use just one myself. Cast jogs for every damn thing.

I do better in heavily pressured lakes with one jig and 2# fluoro, however in lakes with aggressive fish and healthy populations I bump up to 4-6# line so I can tie loop knots for the double rigs. In really good lakes a double jig is a must cause there is times you’ll catch 2 on one line.

I've never had a fish peel drag. I keep my shit pretty taught so it uses the line strength & rod and just reel them in asap. Lost very few fish that way.
Tried lighter drag and it seems like they have way more chance to play you & get off. A fish under 5 lbs ain't gonna break 6lb test if you handle em right so I'm confused why people let their fish run instead of straight reeling in

I don't believe in using corks or bobbers or anything to keep my bait in a certain column, I always cast out and let it sink to the bottom and then slowly work my way up by not letting it sink as deep and changing up my retrieval speed, it does the same thing and you can hit certain depths more accurate
