Back in 1996 the world was not ready to receive Pinkerton, a masterpiece filled with vulnerable and creepy moments that stands as many people's favorite album.
The actual album has very little production/work on it, which probably explains why it's so similar. Though I do feel like this is much more raw in instrumental versus the album version.
man seeing the crowd absolutely NOT feeling this song makes me weirdly sad lol. especially considering how much fun it looks like the band is having...people weren't ready for this song
+Minty Python have you ever been to a festival in germany? even when i was young, i was not able to run and jump the entire day. And.... just having a look at there mere of the shirts telling me it's a lot of punk rock fans there. And Weezer is great, no doubt, but you'd better save your energy for your fav bands. and listen to the nice music of the other bands aswell. How lame are you, just comenting and not going wild yourself? ;)
+Josh Acosta can't believe it! there's still sunlight! :D oh and btw: i've checked the setlist. Weezer were 5th of 9 bands playing that first day of two.
SuperBalders Really? Well, that explains a lot. The Surf Wax America vid had me thinking they were the closer because of the horizontal text that resembled credits.
Listening to a recent live performance of this song and comparing it to 1996 shows you just how much the band lost when Matt left. Most of the energy of the band came from him. Makes me wonder how Weezer would be if he had never left.
eh well you also can't compare them recently becoming famous and playing to huge fucking crowds in their 20s, after recently writing these songs, to them playing them 20+ years later... I mean, I love Matt but I think you're missing something very important as to why the recent performances, well, suck. Weezer are human, that's why we love them, and in this video you caught them in a very raw and exciting moment. Those moments don't last forever.
Compare just about any live band who were young in 1996 compares to how they perform 23 years later and you'll probably hear a drastic difference. It doesn't have much to do with Matt, he doesn't deserve nearly as much as credit as he gets.
While Matt did provide cool falsetto voices that were iconic and recognized as classic Weezer, he’s really kind of just left as that. I think it’s more of Pinkerton’s failure that changed the band to go to other things.
You should REALLLLLLY listen to White album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, Hurley, fuck man they’ve got such good shit beyond the first two albums.
i was expecting the gurgle at the start when he was having that drink
dude same lmao
Exactly same

Matt Sharp has the best falsetto in the game.
matt sharp is one of the more entertaining aspects of earlier weezer.
*roger taylor has Left the chat*
Sucks he left
@@_bhp they should bring him back. he is 35% WEEZER. they are not the same without him
Not that good man. Listen to the isolated tracks of vocals on UA-cam. I'm in weezer tribute bands everybody in the band has better falsettos
This really hammers in how little people liked Pinkerton at the time lol look at that crowd

The line is a reference to a wrestling match featuring New Jack and Johnny Grunge. I think it was ECW.

Sounds JUST like the record... Absolutely incredible live band.
I think it's better than the studio version

except guitar is electric
That's slightly better than the record it's heavy and loud and noisy it's just perfect
2:06 Matt felt he needed more screen time
He was right, he did need more
Love the crowds enthusiasm 😂
The Inner German is existentially enthused after this number.

That shot just at the first chorus when they show how dead the crowd is depressing.

Well since this song was on Pinkerton, and no one really liked Pinkerton at that time. So I guess no one really liked the song
