To be fair, the issue of scalping is beyond Mattel's control. There's nothing they can do to stop scalpers from gobbling up all the chase models and selling on the secondary market at a high premium. If enough people stop buying from the scalpers, they will stop scalping. This is what the collectors have to do collectively.
I hear this all the time, “stop buying from scalpers.” If you’re a collector for 40 years, like me, or even a few years, and live in a metro area like Phoenix, you have almost no chance of getting Premiums, and STHs are non existent. You simply have to bite the bullet and pay the toll if you really want a model or series. I’ve found one STH in 40 years of collecting, but I’m not an early riser 😁
The exact reason I stopped collecting HWs in 2012. The entire culture was toxic and so greedy. The scalpers would lurk the toy section late at night, waiting for the restockers to bring the toys out, and "raid" the pallets for M3 and Greenlight chase cars, and TH's. They would open the cases, only take the chase cars, and leave the mess behind.
I used to go at night as a collector, not a reseller. I have seen how toxic is is. People paying worker to give them the access in the back to go through cases. I really sucks.
It would take a full mental reset for this behavior to change. Meaning, collectively not buying hype models on eBay, whatnot, etc. and when scalpers realize nobody is buying, the market self corrects. Odds of this happening? Slim to none.
They should pack a surprise car in with a 10 or more box of cars. Have that car in something like a black plastic box so even if you look in the 10 pack there is no way it could be identified. I am sure that something can be done like that.
Stupid things like these that you mentioned still happen a lot, it's a HUGE problem that I don't see any solution to. It gets the excitement out of the fun of collecting!
The treasures and supers are hard to find. Some people give their number to store employees to have them call when a case comes in the store. It definitely can be rough not just hot wheels but other diecast chase cars from other manufacturers.
I'm in Canada and not all employees know about them, I've found over 60 supers in 1 year. All are in my collection plus I have over 500 mainlines. Not hard to get to the boxes, or walk up on fresh pegs. Even walking up on pallets. You hot to get there first.If you're not a collector so why do you care , you said you don't collect and made a video, seems like you do care.
Great video and rant. I would say that the store employee's are probably not grabbing the chase items. Although we occasionally will run into employees that collects. Timing is key! If you don't hunt when they stock the diecast you probably won't score the goods 😢. Unfortunately it puts a sour taste on the hobby for most but it's the way it is. If you live in a heavily populated area it can be near impossible to find the more popular castings. The last three supers we found where stocked by employees and grabbed off a peg and dump bins. So it's not impossible. Sad thing is that Mattel workers are even stealing items and selling online or to resellers in the states before items are even available and for high 💵!!! Man, forget them supers, zamacs, chases, & treasure hunts, I can’t even find a decent regular mainline Hotwheel cars. All I see were fantasy cars on the pegs all the time ugly a$$ cars. Anything Nissan, Honda, or Toyota you’ll never find ‘em at least in my area. Premiums, you need a miracle to find those.

I hunt for hot wheels at 8 stores only at one the employees dont take the good cars and the only reason is the manager is a collector herself and doesn't let employees mess with them, Smaller area im in and the Dollar tree manager literally sells on Marketplace has all the STH and Th all the time plus she prices them so high nobody buys them. I havnt found a Sth yet but still find regular ones all the time 2024 though has been tuff.
You are right about timing. Im in that supermarket almost every day, so I just look jus to look. There is NO WAY they are selling hundreds of these things a week. Because the pegs are always stocked.
Collecting was fun, now you can’t find premium hot wheels on the pegs in Walmart or Target very long. Team transport models some of them are peg warmers and some you can’t find ever except on eBay for way overpriced prices. It sucks but that’s the world we live in now, toys can’t just be cool toys any more I like to open them and display them, not use them as currency.

I know stores in East Portland Gresham Oregon that the workers have been saleing the cases to there family members and not letting them get into the community witch should be illegal there family members are saleing them on fb market place and eBay and other online salers workers should be fired for doing this
Bro im in tri cities and our dollar tree manager is scandalous same thing but she sells them under her own name on Facebook marketplace your close enough to probably look at my local marketplace and see that aresehole. I just dont understand some Humans

I think the best solution here is to make all the specific cars that are supposed to be super treasure hunt to be like a mystery type of thing it shouldn’t be visible all cards should be blacked out and the only way to get the sth is by luck or if you buy all the same cars lol
They tried the mystery box thing 20 years ago and it didn't work out so well, people were just opening the in the stores and poking holes to look inside.

I wish everyone could do that. I've found one STH in all the years of looking and it was the lowest end one also.
99% of the employee's are taking them I'm a collector I buy 1 of each casting I don't care if I find a TH or a STH I'm open all of mine
