Thank you for this accurate explanation. A lot of people believe that BCE and CE have "officially replaced" BC and AD, but they haven't. They have been "officially included" as labels in the numbering system. I'm an historian and still use BC and AD for my publications.

This is the first time in 40 years that I've notice someone put AD before the number. I've always heard it as like, "1000 AD".
On the Apollo 11 plaque it says "Here men from planet earth first set foot upon the moon July 1969 A.D." So even nerdy types get it wrong occasionally! 🤓 🤣

Every time I see "BCE" & "CE" I read that this person possibly cares more about their own politics than actual history, science, & truth. I'd like to ask them how they feel about changing the names of the months or even the days of the week - since many of those also originate from ancient religions.

@@carlpeters8690 you do realize that you proved your original accusation in relation to yourself. The idea and use of CE/BCE was presented by Christians and used by Abrahamic religious scholarship. Dionysius Exiguus made an error with the calculations of AD and BC.
Furthermore the months have been changed before by the additions of new ones (September for example was the seventh month) and naming, the weeks names have also changed names (French for example still uses the Roman god names and English the Anglo-Saxon god names for example).
On another note we could use the date for 2024 as 5785 as the creation of the world date.... or 1445 AH (Anno Hajiri)....

Knew the BC, AD system. Had a hunch on the BCE, CE. I was right. Just a secular correlation.

What language is the most common English or Arab. You see it I'd not if it's correct or not, the reason is used is bc the people who invented this years are the ones who conquered the world and who shape the world, and that is not bad. That is how history works

The emphasis about AD is highly appreciated which had mislead me to be "After Death" since my high school subject World History is very enlightening aside from knowing their new designations as BCE and CE...

Hi. There is an error in the 5.17 minute of your video. The second system should be CE & BCE system. Instead you have mentioned its BE?BCE system.

If BCE & CE are anchored on the same events that necessitated BC & AD, why bother with the change.
I don’t think it was about them being offended, but rather not believing in Christianity since it goes very much against worldwide scientific beliefs.

@@ziizee4614 The reasons are mostly historical; that dating system was in common use in Europe for many centuries, and European colonization spread their calendar around the world. While religious belief has faded somewhat in the modern world (although it’s still probably more prevalent than you think), things like dating systems are pretty hard to change since they’re so ingrained in a culture. So no one changes it.
Academics have made a move towards BCE and CE as a way to keep the dates but simply remove the religious component. I feel like most people who refer to the months or days don’t think about the pagan gods, that is if they even know it’s associated with them.
In addition, it’s hard to imagine anyone to not think about Christianity when they say “Before or after Christ,” ya know?

So spiritual people created our current system of numbering years, and they honored the source of their inspiration with lettering system, BC and A.D.
And people who hate that religion, or don’t like any religion at all, want to keep using their system, but strip away any credit to their inspiration.

I though it went bce: before Christ existed BC :before Christ ... then it went ;CE :christ existed and then Ad: after death
This cleared up alot of things ... thank you...
I’ve heard it proposed by a few German scholars that we should get rid of BC/AD all together and simply put a “1” in front of the current year, as it is estimated that humanity began building our first structures solely dedicated to the gods roughly 12,000 years ago, marking the true beginnings of civilization (significant to all of us) and having that mark the Common Era.
Instead of this helpful video being made in 2019 AD or CE and dropping the letters, it would be 12,019 CE and dropping the letters. Anything before year one would be BCE counting in reverse? I personally like that. It’s a better reflection of humanity, less confusing, not associated with any specific religion and a simple adaptation in my opinion.

I am a Muslim and I find it disrespectful to use CE and BCE because as a scientist, I respect the work of other scientists whether that's the church.
It's honestly childish if you ask me. They don't like to use AD or BC yet if they had to explain when and why the counting started, they still have to say it is from the supposed birth date of Jesus. People are just silly.

I think we need MAIA - Make America Intelligent Again. There was no A.D., woke, Marxism, commies, etc. when C.E. came into use and there was no A.D. prior to 525 C.E. LMAO!

No, because instead of 0 you we just use "The birth of jesus" as a place holder and count from there.
@@felixf4378 maybe you should watch the video till the end. there is no placeholder for the year "0" because there is/was no year "0". i take back the timeline stuff because proportions are right if jesus was born in the year 1 BC and has had his first birthday in AD 1. so the no-year-zero-problem just affects you if you want to measure years across his birth. sorry kinda want to get it right.
