I'm glad that Mike Leigh and Marrianne John- Baptiste are back. I'm looking forward to seeing that film.

Have you watched I’m Still Here? Brazilian movie that won best screenplay at Venice last week

Appreciate your coverage, but why waste time on films that have distribution?

Thanks for watching! Actually a few reasons behind that:
For one thing, I work as a curator for another festival, so any film without distribution that I'm interested in, I can get ahold of pretty easily after the festival (or before). I've already seen a good deal of those titles before the fest.
Seeing the films that'll come to theaters means that I'm not paying all that money in tickets after the fest. Everything I see here is free with my industry pass, and will save me 20+ trips to the cinema later in the year.
Then there's also the element of being able to talk about them on the channel. Since we mostly do Oscar predictions here, it's nice to have the scoop on these films before they hit wide release.
It can also be nice to see the buzziest titles in an environment like this, because people are excited at the fest, while many of these movies will fail to sell more than 10 tickets a show in a few months.
It's different for everyone though! No fault for exclusively watching the titles that may never see release. I like a good mix of buzzy upcoming stuff and more hidden picks.

This logic applied 10, even 5 years ago but these days even if a film has distribution, no guarantee it will ever make it to theatres (Eden sold to Amazon and they haven't said yet if it will go theatrical, though I imagine it will), which is my preferred way of seeing a movie. Like he said it's also exciting to see them with the filmmaker and cast there and the audience excitement. I saw Megalopolis last night and it was indeed terrible lol, and I knew I would probably never bother watching it outside of the festival because of that, but in a crowd? Way more fun.

absolute disappointment. Boring, tired metaphor, same james joyce line 3x, was waiting the whole damn time for her to die so I could get to the theatre next door.
