i have been considering this job and this makes me want to do this even more so. i just wish there was a more in depth view on how to acquire the position.
You do know that they are hiring part time train operators right now right? I applied a few days ago, you should too. It is part time but it's a huge step in the Bart career.
phsycopiano Did you get the job? Are you full time yet?
In most cases you have to be black. You know because of that whole white privilege thing that isn't real.
@@almond_bread04 not even hate speech lmao
bow arrow : Check out bart.gov and click on the "ABOUT" tab. You'll see a section for job listings. Applications are done on-line. BART used to post new listings each Monday but I'm not sure if they still do it then or on a different day. Pay attention to the "last day to file by" or else your application will be rejected. Because of the pandemic, BART has cut its operations and shuffled personnel around but, remarkably, has managed not to lay anyone off. BART recently offered incentives to entice high seniority employees to consider retirement. I'm sure that once this pandemic recedes and BART ramps up service, they'll begin hiring again. Keep checking the job listings and apply for those which interest you. If you lack some of the qualifications, apply anyway and play up the ones you do have. Let BART tell you "sorry", don't do it for them. Good luck.
Transit workers are The Best People Around who roll the big wheels abound. - A railroad buff.
Was very interesting to see the operating cab, and the adjustment in operation when switching to manual. Thanks for the video.
Thank you to all the drivers!
Love the use of John Coltrane's "Equinox" at the beginning of the video. Adds a very comforting intro to a very informative video. Nice work. :)
Thanks for the insight I saw through the eyes of a BART operator.
the conductors like being noticed. it is often a thankless job. if i see one passing by I give them a wave and they usually honk back. 😃
On the docklands light railway in London there is no driver and the passenger service agent walks through the train assisting passengers. There is a small cabinet at the front to drive the train in an emergency because just like BART the trains are automatically driven in normal operation.
BART is more like the Victoria line, which was built around the same time. Pretty much automatic but the driver still closes the doors and presses "go."
@@ericjamieson The train operator is available in case a problem should happen to the train.
Really awesome documentary, Ethan. Thanks for uploading!
Interesting to see that RT works similar all over the word. Greetings from a train operator of S-Bahn Berlin #germany
For some reason I’m liking BART more than MTA
What is MTA?
@@geobrizuela metropolitan transportation authority(mta) it's a train and bus company in new York its apart of new York
That's Good, Bart Is Way Better Than MTA
U think MTA IS SHITTY LOL
@@PrimeR10 cap Bart is small and is like a commuter rail. Way to many flaws but whatever.
I always wondered what goes in front of the train and whenever I'm on, I am always grateful for those drivers who drive us to point a to b daily, I hope Bart goes as far as years go by.😁
A SWARM OF BEES. DAMN.
Myogramme At least it wasn't flying spiders 😂😂😂
now if we could hear the rest of the stories...that do not even make it to page two, or obituary page. How do I know of what I speak? I am a Motorman with over 23 years on the rails. So it goes... Two Bells.
thank you operators! i noticed operator announcements are more intelligible lately
Wow the theme and style of the controls really takes you back to the 60s!
Well done, thanks.
The concentration it takes to operate these trains. 👍
my stepfather ran it off the track in the early 70s eli palmer
How does the automated Train Operation work on the BART? How does the driver signal the computer to start the train, and then stop it at the station? Does he push some sort of button to start the train, or does he move the throttle lever all the way to start it, and then all the way back when teh train has stopped at the station. How does it work on GOA2 ATO systems?
The driver initiates the movement of the train from a stop by pressing or long pressing one or more buttons when in automatic mode. The overall driving from one station to the next (including acceleration, speed control, deceleration and stopping) is fully automatic.
Hope to become a BART train operator when my current job ends. 🙏
I'm just waiting for the job to post
Anyone called you back?
i will be working at bart
That's cool
Very nice job!
Bart is part of CA
I wish someone would make an OpenBVE mod with BART routes.
The Bart train Horn sounds like a New York City Subway train Horn
They don't really drive them. All the trains are self driving. Although they don't drive the trains They have to deal with all this shit and they deserve Better respect. They have to do a lot.
They have a manual mode
Joseph is a great boss, which isn't normal for BARF
How would they move the train manually?
SuperWorldFan360 These trains usually take orders from speed restrictions programmed in the tracks so they run automatically. If the train loses that signal, the operator must 'manually' run the train without restrictions from the control center.
DoctorMac: "... without restrictions ..."? What are you talking about?? I was a BART T/O for 11 years and am now retired. In road manual the operator never runs without instructions from Central. Never ever (well, one might make a case for a natural disaster with the radio system failed or destroyed - that's a long shot). The T/O also has to repeat verbatim the instructions to the controller before receiving authorization to execute the move. There are always restrictions given by the controller, usually a speed limit, how to proceed, which switch to crank, which track to take, run limit, etc.
Never say something unless you know what you're talking about. If you do say something erroneous, someone who actually knows what's going on will call you out and make you look like the big fool you really are ... oh, snap!! ... ouch! By the way, the default speed limit for road manual is set at 25 mph, for yard manual, it's set at 10 mph. You're welcome.
Well that's my understanding from the MBTA. Don't act like a snowflake.
DoctorMac: Snowflake? Aren't you in the wrong season? Upset that someone knows something and you don't? Oh, poor baby!
While I'm not specifically familiar with the MBTA's OR&P, I highly doubt that the MBTA operates any differently than BART does vis-à-vis running in manual mode. Railroads are sticklers for making sure any movement is extremely orchestrated so accidents and problems are avoided. Train controllers make every effort to eliminate any chance of error. Major metropolitan rail transit agencies and commuter railroads are pretty much in agreement that any manual operation or movement outside automatic mode is subject to very tight controls. Unlike your mistaken first post, restrictions are indeed a way of life for railroads. That's for your protection and safety. Oh ... you're welcome ... again.
Rick Traveler Smith: Fuck you big time! If that's the case, then DoctorMac needs to write the sentence more clearly to express the desired point. "... without restrictions from the control center" would mean without any instructions or limitations from the train controllers (something which would never be done since they like to run the show as smoothly as possible). Now, if the problem is loss of speed codes to the train's on-board computer from the MUX boxes or Central's computer, then say so. These are two entirely different scenarios. They are not the same. What DoctorMac wrote is not what you "explain" it to mean. There's nothing douchey about what I said. The response based on what DoctorMac wrote is correct. You, apparently, are the one with his head up his ass - along with his equally small-minded prick.
There are people - that complain - about metro operators earning too much --- wtf is wrong with them..
so to put it plainly, well over Half the times it the Computer that is pretty much always controling the trains speed and everything, pretty much the operators only job is to make announcements, and be in control of opening and Closing the doors, but like he said, there Are times that he actually has to lets say Drive the train giving it gas like a car and slowing it Down....
I want to be a train operator I need to drive. ❤
100!
Bart have nothing on NYCT we move New York City 💪
New home, new place?
NYCT move A city. BART transports the entire bay area, which includes at least 4 cities so it of course requires a bigger budget
Artificial intelligence will take this job?
i think you mean automation?
The driving is already automated and the drivers are primarily interpersonal communicators
@@gotacallfromvishal i mean same ballpark my friend lol
they still have to supervise the automation to make sure it all goes along smoothly. kind of how Tesla drivers still have to be at the wheel during auto driving mode
@@landsend3417 not the same ballpark at all
