I may have missed it if you already have said why but …why do some tassels get cut off…then others get pulled?

Like all row crops they don't grow exactly even, detasseling is about cutting the early exerted female tassels then continue to pull and cut as the field grows into you. I pullers can do a better job at removing the whole tassel ny pulling it, cutters are necessary to create good pulling conditions, then you come back with cutters to just trim a few inches off the top a d cut the late exerting female plants. For all the "precision" technology on the world... no crop grows perfectly even. So it's all about the beat way to get the whole tassel while leaving as much plant height as possible. Some inbreds like to be o ly cut, some inbreds absolutely must be pulled. Thick stalk inbreds have to pulled for example otherwise your just cutting small trees by 50% silk
Edit: a puller doesn't work well for the first pass or 2, you gotta cut 1/2 the tassel and let it grow for a day or 2, then the puller really gets it. Check back a couple vids on the puller vid and you'll see why immediately

Ok thank you….I always thought you’d just run through the field once cutting the tassels 😂
