    Swing Gitane - Crispy Chords!
A lot of you have been asking about the kind of chords I use in my solos so here's an example of an idea I would use when soloing over 'Swing Gitane'.
Adding these kind of chords to your solos definitely adds a lot of dynamics and energy.
Ok so we're looking for chord voicings which we can use over each of the chords in a song
So i'm just going to look at the first part of Swing Gitane which is made up of Gm, A7, D7.& Gm
Here are the 3 note voicings I use:
    Gm D,G,D
    A7 C#,G, C#
    D7 C,G,C
    Gm C,F,A
My best tip is to always make these chords rhythmical and punchy. Doesn't have to be complicated but just nice and crisp.
In the video I show you a few ways to do this.
    Ok have fun!
    Robin

I like the snappy lick endings. They tie it up nicely. Now to invent my own.

Hey Bro, has Django been recorded doing this? I found a killer version by Angelo Debarre on UA-cam (ua-cam.com/video/EJsElHkaQEY/v-deo.html) but after combing through my Google Play, iTunes, CDs, vinyl and shellac I can't find anything by the guy who writ it! Of course I like your version, though.

I fell in love with Gypsy but I tuned my JWC Replica two tones down and now I'm singing and playing even more dark and mayhem blues than ever.

Thanks Robin! One small question: why do the 'gypsy' guitars have a dot on the 10th fret instead of the 9th?

Oh man that used to mess me up but I'm used to it now... just one of those things line driving on the other side of the road in UK. 😀 Robin

Mario Maccaferri, an Italian mandolin luthier, INVENTED this kind of guitar, originally for the Selmer company;; if you look at mandolins they also have a dot at the tenth fret.
The original Maccaferri guitar had a large 'D-shaped' soundhole because the guitar had a 'resonator' chamber inside it (which was later dispensed with because it rattled and vibrated, noisily);; the 'small mouth' models (small oval soundhole) produce more bass than the 'big mouth' models.
ALL guitars (electric and acoustic) should have a 'zero fret' like the Maccaferri, it avoids just about all the problems that come from having a nut only ---- nowadays you can get a nut, a replacement nut, that has a 'zero fret' built into it.

That's the correct answer Mick! 😀 Robin

Robin, have you ever wondered why no luthier of Maccaferri guitars has, so far, ever produced ones with a 'compensated' saddle? --- I have two identical archtop guitars, one is a Harmony Montclair from 1965, the other is a Loar from 2014, the Loar has a compensated saddle whilst the Harmony does not ------ if some of the luthiers now produce Maccaferris with the dot at the 9th fret, why can't they also make them with a compensated saddle?
