  • San Fernando's legendary mas icon Lionel Jagessar Senior has died.
Jagessar, who portrayed traditional Fancy Indian mas for over 40 years and was the founder of the mas band Jagessar and Associates, died at his Gransaul Street, San Fernando home.
According to reports, Jagessar's health had deteriorated over the past few days.
Jagessar was a recipient of a Humming Bird Silver Medal Award in 1999.
The veteran masman also taught students from many schools in South Trinidad, the art of wire bending and costume design.
Member of Parliament for San Fernando West, Faris Al-Rawi, in a post on his Facebook Page said San Fernando, and indeed the entire national mas community, mourns the passing of the legendary Lionel Jagessar Senior. MP Al-Rawi said he's knows Jagessar's legacy will live on through his wife and his children Lionel Junior and Lisa.
San Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello said “Lio,” as he was fondly known, was a giant in his field and his passing has left a void in the Carnival fraternity that would be difficult to fill.

Isn't it customary to give the age of death of the deceased?
