As an elder millennial, one of the few advantages is having lived through the Great Recession. My advice. Reduce unnecessary expenses, increase your savings by investing in financial markets and do not sell. One thing I know for sure is that diversifying your income can help insulate you from much of the craziness going on in the world.

MLK battled to get his people to vote. He walked through angry, jeering crowds who hated him-fought him every step of the way. It was bravery. And no joke, he died for it. Let him be remembered today for the Selma Marchs. Truly a hero.

Funny how we seem to respect and quote him, and yet all some people do is point out race. You’re either with what he stood for or not. Also, despite the horrors of slavery, blacks were so brave and never let it crush their spirit hence many were believers in God and wrote amazing works of literature and music. They never knew the day would come where they’d be free, but it did! That is something I am and we all should be grateful for!

MARTIN LUTHER KING Jr. DAY 2023 ##
The wise listen to increase their learning
Where the scorners of wisdom close their mind.
The hearts of the prudent gather knowledge
For a soul without grace becomes confined.
Our knowledge can help us fulfill our dreams
Though most of the time with wisdom comes grief.
For knowledge removes our veil of ignorance
Exposing within the liar or thief.
    A wise mind is a fountain of life;
To teach others it's knowledge before death.
Wisdom is too hard for fools to retain
Who curse their fellows with spiteful breath.
Fill yourself with love and understanding,
For wisdom makes the human face shine.
Knowledge is stronger than weapons of war
While on ignorance, fools continue to dine.
The words of the wise are heard in quiet
More than the loud shouts of screaming fools.
    Wisdom and knowledge cause stability
In the lives of those who use them as tools.
We should shun with wisdom that which is evil
And glorify with knowledge that which is good.
Better is the gift of learning than gold
For by virtue we become what we should.

At least the thing that kids like best is what they come to associate with Martin Luther King, Jr.: a day off from school. School should be the thing kids care about most. But schools in this country are not valued by parents except as babysitters. Parents in too many states and communities don't want schools to be the best education for all, and don't want them to teach anything that might help the children understand the world apart from their parents' preferred beliefs and myths. American kids hate school for many reasons, not l least for withholding from them skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their world now and for providing the best opportunities to only some of their peers, mostly to save money, but also through social bias, which cannot be hidden from children. They feel it and see it and hate it, yet then pass it on in their turn to the next generation themselves.

MARTIN LUTHER KING Jr. & NOW ??
The wise listen to increase their learning
Where the scorners of wisdom close their mind.
The hearts of the prudent gather knowledge
For a soul without grace becomes confined.
Our knowledge can help us fulfill our dreams
Though most of the time with wisdom comes grief.
For knowledge removes our veil of ignorance
Exposing within the liar or thief.
    A wise mind is a fountain of life;
To teach others it's knowledge before death.

Socialism for rich , democracy for the poor . The fire of “the Dream “ has died but we are keeping the embers as bright as we can . Do Not Forget the MURDER MEDGAR EVERS , JUNE 1963 ! !

If remember that night, I was a hockey fan and Montreal and the Boston Bruins were involved in playoff hockey..the game went into double OT with Beliveau scoring the winning goal 2-1 and the news bulletin came across the TV screen announcing that MLK was shot.....I was in shock....first one Kennedy, then the other and now MLK....it seemed that the USA was being taken over by the Hawks....that the government was going to go to war with black America and Nixon would escalate the war in Vietnam now....that the last of the peaceful leaders was now gone.....

Today , Kevin McCarthy is scheduled to attend and will be be allowed to speak at an annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast in his home town of Bakersfield, Ca. for the first time that anyone can recall ? What is his purpose showing up today ? Maybe he is gong to announce his support for the John Lewis Voting Rights Act? I don’t like how politicians “high jack” MLK Day for good press coverage.

The Riverside speech was his best and most important. His problem in New York was that Adam Clayton Powell Jr. was the big fish. His followers actually egged King on at least one occasion. And don't forget that MLK was stabbed and almost died in Harlem in 1958.

I do like that the song of Moses which starts 'Listen oh heavens and hear oh earth for the Lord speaks'. It was sin that keeps one from ultimate enjoyment of the promised land. Centuries later 'in the physical promised land;, Isiah echoes the opening of the song of Moses calling to judgement. in chapter 1. In Chapters 40 on a handful of times the call turns to a song 'sing of heavens and rejoice of hills and mountains for the Lord has redeemed Jacob' and the highlight of the servant songs being the suffering servant Jesus who will be rejected, suffer, die and overcome death. Ultimately oppression is the iceberg of sin. Out politics should not eclipse out Biblical values with our politics else you will miss out on the real promised land. Ultimately Moses appeared with Elijah on the mountain with Jesus and discussed the Jesus Exodus, Jesus departure (exodus in greek). Yes the Bible says 'justice, justice' shalt thou pursue but ultimately loving your neighbor and loving God and helping others only comes from a work of God and the Holy Spirit bought by the blood of Christ and not as a result of modern humanism using some Biblical terms. I'm hearing a Christless humanistic gospel and not one where the ultimate treasure is God and a relationship with his no longer alienated.
