I was sentenced to 49yrs to life when I was 17. I did 24yrs in adult prison in California. I got out July 2021. Prison changes you., you either learn or get worse. But I do believe most kids that go to prison and spend decades behind them walls are much more mature mentally then your average prisoner. I’m enjoying my life, I love my freedom and enjoy the simple things in life.
I almost felt sorry for the brothers.. until I found out they killed an 87 year old man and slit his wife's throat. They went into someone's home, armed with a gun. I can't sympathize with that. A tough childhood does not warrant murder.
I had a tough upbringing and I would like to say I turned out an incredibly empathetic caring person who now works in a Carehome. I’ve never felt the need to do any crimes, it’s their choice they did that and because of that, they pay the consequences
34:30 are they smirking about what they did? 10 year developmentally is plenty old enough to know right from wrong. The youngest in my family at the moment is 2, the next is 7 and a few months. I've been working with every level of troubled young man there is, and this kid does not belong in prison. I would bet 100% of my experience he should be in psychiatric for a stint then put in a structured work release program Your instincts are good
i feel more sympathy for blade than i do his brother. it was terrible what the brothers did and i'm not trying to make excuses, but the trauma that led to his age regression must have been terrible to live through, and with a drunk brother with irrational thoughts and used his trauma response for his own gain. man that's terrible. i hope when he gets out he finds a proper life for himself, filled with people who don't take advantage of him for acting so much younger by no fault of his own.
So sad, my brother was locked up at thirteen and was transferred to adult prison when he turned old enough, where he spent another few years. He got out a couple times but his freedom didn't last forever. He went on the run and was facing over 15 years. Well they found him overdosed a couple weeks ago.. I just feel like a lot of these kids never really had a chance
@Insightful Entertainment - wow, that is such a sad, sad story. So sorry to hear about your brother. Being locked up at 13 is, in itself, a terrible policy. Kids at that age are far too young to be thrown into that world and be expected to emerge better off. Research proves it. We firmly believe there are much more effective ways to treat kids who have committed offenses than simply throwing them behind bars. We've also learned a lot from the family members of crime victims, many of whom advocate for a different approach when it comes to juvenile subjects. Really appreciate you taking the time to post such a personal comment. It's only by sharing stories like this that people begin to understand the depths of these issues.
Im so glad i found these documentaries. Soon i will be volunteering at a Juvenile facility as well as going to school and study criminal justice. I know its definitely not going to be easy but im going into this strong and hard and i pray to God i can make some type of great guidance to these young individuals. Please pray for me yall 🙏🏿

What's sad is that these kids aren't stupid. They are well spoken, and they have decent heads on their shoulders, at the very least. At the end of the day, it all comes down to who you surround yourself with. They are young enough to understand the impact that these choices will have on their life long-term, thankfully. I hope they learn from their actions and return to society as changed individuals.
Man did you don't understand there life is over if ? If? They get out one will be 70 another almost 50 years old with class a aggravated felony on their record. that mean very limited chance to get job rent a house etc .
Kids that age can understand the impact of what they do on a superficial level but not on a deep level e.g. lasting anguish or affected family members etc.
Even if my child had gone way off the rails and I thought there was no hope, I couldn’t imagine not coming to see my own son in EIGHT YEARS… poor kid has nothing to works towards to get out of the cycle
Hell, 6 days in county on traffic violations was enough for me, plus being into WAY more serious things and having buddies gettin locked up for actual stretches was enough for me.
Man I feel so damn bad for the little brother. He was asked to do a terrible thing and I do feel for the old man and his wife but he really needs help he doesn’t need to be locked up around other convicts. They’re the only ppl he has to look up too and a building full of criminals aren’t the best role models
Exactly this. This is what many people don't understand. There are two types of offenders, the leaders and followers. The ones who commit crimes out of selfishness and the ones who do it because they follow the only ones they have to look up to. And the worst thing you can do is to put these kids around more bad examples. You take those same kids who follow, giving them good examples to follow, and they wouldnt be doing crimes. The system should not be so black and white overall. There are so many people who can be rehabilitated and should be. While there are people who are simply bad people who are never going to be safe for society, and those are the ones who should be given the long term and life sentences. But the ones who can be, should be treated differently and rehabilitated instead of punished only.
You can tell Blade is messed up! The poor boy looks stuck in time! I hope the best for that boy! I know he done very bad but that boy needs real counseling during his sentence!

He was following the direction of his older brother, who, was just pissed that the elderly man shot him first. @@tp8615 He received a 60 year sentence in 2009. Due to Indiana’s sentencing code, you can earn one day credit for one day served. For most felonies, you can earn one day credit for 3 days served, which means you could be released after serving 75 percent of your time. Hope this helps explain a bit better.
Very sad to see people in these comments that don’t understand they could’ve been in the same situation if they had a traumatized past, no good role models, and no love at home.
It’s true you can’t blame it on your family but at the same time your upbringing plays a huge role… how can you succeed in life if you have no positive role models
We have a saying here in the UK...Your a product of you're environment. In other words if your around bad people or hard drug's then the sad fact is that you most probably end up in prison at some point, mind you the UK ain't as punitive as the US we don't have that 3 strikes and your lifed off or the death penalty here but our prison's are brutal one of the favourite methods of messing some one up is by boiling suger in the kettle and throwing it at someone it then sticks to your skin burning people and self made shanks then getting plugged in the neck or kidneys some bad shit. 🏴🇬🇧
Thank you soo much for all your efforts Calamari. All the excellent changes it presented. Assistance to juveniles. How sad is generational curses. We will be praying more from South Africa 🇿🇦
I was 16 when I placed in a high security prison in Oklahoma called osp or big Mac... I fell through a loop hole in the system. I was supposed to go into a boot camp but due to my high flight risk they placed me in the walls... I spent almost a year before my lawyer found me and got me transferred out... it's really hard on a young person to be in a place like that... we all make mistakes and shouldn't suffer forever for it... God knows those who are truly sorry...
@benjimandover8072 - Really appreciate you posting your own personal story. You are right -- it can take a long time to see legal movement once you're in the system. A lot of young people don't have lawyers and languish even more. It's a tough place, that's for sure. Thanks again for sharing your story and taking the time to be here with us on our channel.
Did you change? I have a different thought. Suffer for our mistakes and we are less likely to repeat them. You must have done something pretty serious to get prison time. Hope you learned from it.🙏
@wandamiller4473 - Yes, you're talking about Mike Dempsey. He's a great guy and truly does care about kids. It shows in the work he continues to do as Exec. Director of the Council of Juvenile Justice Administrators. We appreciate you giving him a shout out!
These kids may be kids, but they’re much more goddamn mature and talk like men more so than a lot of guys and people my age I know. Some of em sound to have good hearts and have taken responsibility for the wrongs they’ve done. What they have done may be terrible and absolutely tragic for the victims families, they at least sound like they’re trying to get their life straight and headed in the right path. Crazy how one mistake like that that took all but a few minutes to take part in could completely change your life or even end it
That sucks. I'm 17, and couldn't imagine spending my youth in prison. The American system is draconian. In my country, if a 16 or 17-year-old commits a robbery, they will get at most half a year of probation and a small fine. Who the hell puts a kid in a prison for robbery. That's disgusting.
I watched your channel here and there every once in a while but damn, this new system you guys developed filming THESE kind of docs is VERY impressive, very good job on the whole team, keep up the great content! fmr police need not be charged for an acquaintance with under 1gm residual meth. The war on drugs is not effective & never worked under Pres Reagan! He traded arms with Central America. DEA is a huge waste o f DOJ $. The Secret Service father of my cousin did far more. I tested & got hired on the the US Marshals list, before a large Illinois police dept hired me & trained me at the Illinois State Police Academy.
From what I could find Aurelious Howard Woods (who I am pretty sure is Aurelious Howard Woods Jr.) has been doing pretty well. He had some charges since, but most of them got dismissed. He did get convicted of drunk driving in 2022, he had 1 year probation which he completed.
He was 13 years old scared and confused and gets told to cut someones throat.. He doesn't deserve 30years, he deserves rehabilitation with love and guidance
It sux to be young and really not know alot or alot about the consequences tht come with the crimes tht are being committed cuz I've been there I really didn't know alot about the consequences till it was to late for, I've been in a TEXAS PRISON FOR 3 YRS, THEN A COUPLE OF OTHER TIMES BUT I KNEW ENOUGH NOT TO PUT MYSELF IN A CELL FOR DECADES AND I THANK GOD FOR THT FOR MAKING WEISE PRETTY FAST BEFORE IT WAS TOO LATE NOW I KNOW AND ME KNOWING KEEPS ME OUT OF PRISON HOPEFULLY FOR EVER.
That's a draconian sentence. What the hell is wrong with America? If I commit a robbery, I would get half a year of probation and a small fine in my country. That's the correct approach. That's why our crime rates are so low, and our system is humane and working.
I couldn't help but laugh when the brothers met up... my lord those boys. Hug damnit! The younger one though... , "I'm always good " 😂😂😂😂 boy "dont look nothing like that ugly ass" bruuuhhh, this is family though. It made me happy.

We gotta gi e the 1 kid props for staying out from age 11-13 thats impressive
Is this new content?
When was it recorded?
Am hooked already
@d d - This is from our archive, but if you read the description section of the video, you'll see updates on all the kids featured at the bottom of the description. Thanks for being here with us!!
@@CalamariProductions Bennie is scheduled to be released in 2037?
His was reduced?
@@tp8615 He received a 60 year sentence in 2009. Due to Indiana’s sentencing code, you can earn one day credit for one day served. For most felonies, you can earn one day credit for 3 days served, which means you could be released after serving 75 percent of your time. Hope this helps explain a bit better.
Granny is so sweet!
I thought the same thing
You or too 👌
But businesslike.
God some of these kids stories of how they grew up, u can't help to feel really bad for them.
I wish they could stick those awful parents in jail also. Not all parents are bad but the majority of kids in this video had a horrible childhood.
Very sad to see people in these comments that don’t understand they could’ve been in the same situation if they had a traumatized past, no good role models, and no love at home.
Still can’t release them if it’s not safe for society
Sad and predictable
So what’s your point?
I would love to follow the brothers' story. That would make a crazy movie
It's a sad story all the way around.
Good work on your documentary
@triplezero 14 Thank you! Appreciate your viewership!

I really don't know what you would do with these boys .They killed and almost killed an elderly couple .Sad for all involved .✝️💜☮️
Have you ever did one with juveniles and Angola penitentiary in Louisiana
The younger brother is giving me, Sling Blade vibes.
💯
Some Billie Eilish vibes
Look at the eyes of the older brother? Very cold and stoic. He will be paroled one day.
Ya in 45 years - 2066
Probably medicated to the eyeballs
glad the brothers got to visit
Anying thing over 15 years is basically life sad...great video
Not at all. 15 is 15.
Life is life.
Get it straight.
You must be from Europe
Thank you soo much for all your efforts Calamari. All the excellent changes it presented. Assistance to juveniles. How sad is generational curses. We will be praying more from South Africa 🇿🇦
Yeah because prayer seems to be changing a lot. Best do actual practical solutions in my opinion
I work at a juvenile detention facility. Kids are tough to deal with.
Can you explain more please I'm curious
@@fatboy8231 they have a lot to prove so often start fights, talk back, try to play the alpha.. but those tend to be the most scared
@@lizzyxo9015 survival of the fittest, they adapt.
@@fatboy8231 I can tell you one thing. I can write a book. I been actively working at this facility for 13 years now
I was 16 when I placed in a high security prison in Oklahoma called osp or big Mac...
Hope you learned from it.🙏
I love that they call her Granny
I been in prison on and off sense I was 14 I'm now 35 and finally I'm home free and no paperwork
I've seen that other documentaries where that warden has been in there. And he's really a good caring person. He really cares about all these kids.
@wandamiller4473 - Yes, you're talking about Mike Dempsey. He's a great guy and truly does care about kids. It shows in the work he continues to do as Exec. Director of the Council of Juvenile Justice Administrators. We appreciate you giving him a shout out!
Good documentary ! Are there going to be anymore updates on Justin ?
These kids may be kids, but they’re much more goddamn mature and talk like men more so than a lot of guys and people my age I know. Some of em sound to have good hearts and have taken responsibility for the wrongs they’ve done. What they have done may be terrible and absolutely tragic for the victims families, they at least sound like they’re trying to get their life straight and headed in the right path. Crazy how one mistake like that that took all but a few minutes to take part in could completely change your life or even end it
Thank you granny
Yeah good luck
This is interesting video
Just got out may 25 I was 16 when I was charged with robbery and battery that gave me 8 years.. you either learn or don't learn from it 💯
Appreciate you telling your own experience @Nash River. Tough lesson to learn but as you say, hopefully it's a lesson that lasts.
That sucks. I'm 17, and couldn't imagine spending my youth in prison. The American system is draconian. In my country, if a 16 or 17-year-old commits a robbery, they will get at most half a year of probation and a small fine. Who the hell puts a kid in a prison for robbery. That's disgusting.
I hope you have a great life now Hun. I wish you loads of luck and lots of happiness. Take care of yourself x
I watched your channel here and there every once in a while but damn, this new system you guys developed filming THESE kind of docs is VERY impressive, very good job on the whole team, keep up the great content!
Filming, editing, everything is on point, a bit over dramatic music at times but hey it fits :D
@TheTanChannel - Thanks! When we started this channel we announced we were "opening up the vault," releasing videos from our archive that include everything from raw footage to interviews to edited documentaries. Glad you're enjoying the content and hope you'll stay tuned for more ahead (and yes, music choices from years past are definitely a bit dramatic! :) ) Have a great day and thanks for being with us!
@@CalamariProductions All good, I hope you guys get to produce more episodes like this with a little funding. Definetly the right direction for the channel!
U guys are boosting each others channels. They didn't produce or do anything to make this documentary. Another company did the hard work.

I’ve been locked up in facility’s housing minors charged as adults. My cell was a kid that had just turned 18, already had been there for 2 years, and serving 35 years
What he did?
When the reed brothers met i was cracking up 😂😂😂😂😂😂
You can tell the older brother is evil and twisted, the younger one is kind at heart but just has a lot of issues
Kind heart????? Slit the throat of an elderly woman!!! Insanity - “he has a kind heart”- 🤷🏼♀️
@@lindamccracken8235 agreed. I mean being caught up in the moment is one thing, but to actually go through with it? It's 2 different things. I've been through some major trauma but I never went over the line. I could've but never did

The Sling dude is literally the dude from Sling Blade as a young man!
I live in the next town. Had no idea this happened.
Damn they got Budd from Kill Bill to narrate this one.
My brother just got out of prison on a 20 year charge. He was in there since I was 5. I’m 25 now. Crazy man. He was only out of his cell once every other day or some shit.
I pray for these young men out here to do the right thing 🙏
I spent over 3 years in Juvenile Corrections in Virginia. It is not fun and games. So much stuff changes while you are locked up.
fmr police need not be charged for an acquaintance with under 1gm residual meth.
For what have you been convicted?
I grew up in the hills of brown county Indiana it's a beautiful place!!
Only America would charge a developmentally delayed 13 year old as an adult…. It’s just sickening
Nah, not only america lol. There are much worse places
Yea only in America- lol
Facts. One of the most backwards justice systems in the world
In pa they do that for a reason
USA LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT
From what I could find Aurelious Howard Woods (who I am pretty sure is Aurelious Howard Woods Jr.) has been doing pretty well. He had some charges since, but most of them got dismissed. He did get convicted of drunk driving in 2022, he had 1 year probation which he completed.
@ps474249 - Thanks for watching, and yes, that is the latest update we have too!

Thank God for that. Stay out of trouble!
I just realized it’s narrated by Mr Blonde.
The younger one reminds me of billy bob thorton in “sling blade”hopefully he grows or works out a lot before he hits adult side…..
Benny would of been better off just robbing a liquor store
God I'm glad I don't live in Indiana anymore. That place is the alabama of the north.

Not to make light of the situation, but I find it ironic that the kids name is Blade and he used a knife. 😢

That’s a sad life right there
a lot of the comments on these videos show just how easily some people can be manipulated.
18:02 nobody getting cut with that lil ah razor, they cutting onions and peppers with that😂
He was 13 years old scared and confused and gets told to cut someones throat.. He doesn't deserve 30years, he deserves rehabilitation with love and guidance
your common sense would have the conservative right reeling !
We need an update on Kevin Henry , seriously cmon . What happened in his case to begin with ?
40 years for a first time offender for robbery? WTF?! At 18 years old? That’s at absolute most maybe 5 years, maybe.
That's a draconian sentence. What the hell is wrong with America? If I commit a robbery, I would get half a year of probation and a small fine in my country. That's the correct approach. That's why our crime rates are so low, and our system is humane and working.
@@abcdefg4570 Shorter sentences lead to lower crime rates? That sounds a little odd.
@@royharper2003 Instead of punishment, rehabilitation should be focused on for individuals like these. Finland is excelling at it.
