I gotta say Tom. You made this process very clear and easy to follow. That being said, I'm finding learning this whole 4 and 5 axis programming thing quite frustrating. I set a part similar but simpler to yours, but 8" dia, 2" thick with 4x holes at 0, 90, 180, 270... Should be simple.
Drilled the hole at 0, copy paste to 90, 180, etc... Set for rotating around x just like you have. For whatever reason, the part doesn't rotate. The tool rotates around the part, likely crashing through it on a 45 degree rapid travel to each hole location. Doesn't make sense to me. I've had similar problems with (morph) helical 5 axis cuts.
X19 home learning version here. There are slight interface changes here and there, but overall they're the same. I've used x15 and x16. I can't check the code with the home learning versions either to confirm if the 4th axis is active and maybe the (verify path) display is just wrong. This software has a lot of strange little glitches so, it's hard to be sure of anything.
Generally speaking, CAM software is a major problem in the entire machining industry. Vocational schools don't really cover multi axis programming. Focused independent studies in multi axis from MLC, or some other reseller cost thousands for a week long course. Webinars a few hundred for one brief lesson on one specific operation.
Then, lets say you become proficient in MasterCAM... Employers may use it, or Gibbs, or Bob, or NX... Then there's bias against industries... Aerospace doesn't want medical, medical doesn't want aerospace, automotive etc... All MUST HAVE multi axis experience, which for the most part isn't taught. One starts to wonder if the any of this is worth it.
