Every time I watch a video from NY it seams to me that the people look at the fire department as something that is just a pain in the ass to them and they just don’t have to move over.
It's not even always just the ppl driving. As you can see, sometimes it's the nonchalant pedestrians who act as if any emergency sirens don't apply to them. Cars can't effectively pull over, or out of the way when you have nonchalant morons still crossing the street without any urgency to hurry up out of their way. It's sad!
I've seen motorcycle ambulances in Europe - gets the medics there so much faster, so they can stabilize as the actual bus is on the way. I've always wondered if they could do a motorcycle fire apparatus to do the sizeup or 360, set up IC, and maybe get the hydrants flushed and ready to connect. All you'd need would be a hydrant wrench, radio, and SCBA. Bunker gear would make for acceptable motorcycle armor at city speeds.
