I went to CS college related course in Brazil, by the end of the course I started working with Wordpress, site building with little code, basic freelancing work. Then I had the opportunity to do a free Drupal 9 bootcamp to work on international projects. I got hired after because like you I needed the job to pay my bills. I have being doing it for almost an year now. It's been a rollercoaster, but I am going, one day at a time. Thanks for the encouraging words and experience.
Awesome video, so many are leaving teaching and entering technology. I went to a boot camp and then got an engineering job. Age and gender shouldn’t stop you from pursuing a career you will love!
Not an Immigrant but I worked in IT after graduating college. My boss said I shouldn't talk to or hang out with the developers in our small startup because I was too dumb to be a software engineer. So I studied and am now doing back end engineering. Shortly after I left, the original company laid off 90% of their engineers and nearly went bankrupt.
This! I can relate much of your experience, I graduated computer science not knowing much programming and I remember database was my favorite subj. But I wasn’t brave as you to apply for a job right after I graduated. Came to Europe to work in health institution, different language, different culture. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge, as always, that inspires me and hope someday I’ll get that software dev job.
I am wondering how did you get your first job as a software engineer?
