I remember having This is My Truth on cassette and playing it over and over in the car. The memory of driving late at night listening to SYMM is full of pure nostalgic energy.

+Murmeltier616 why is it gash? You have your opinion, others have theirs, but to denigrate an MSP track is very pop-culture. We're talking about lyrically the most important band since The Smiths here; not The fuckin Monkees
Don't know if anyone'll care nearly a decade later but just as a random fan, here's my top 10 of theirs anyway: 1] Montana, Autumn '78 2] 1985 3] the Soulmates 4] Enola / Alone 5] Red Rubber 6] Voodoo Polaroids 7] the Everlasting 8] From Despair to Where 9] Found That Soul 10] Show Me the Wonder
@@secallen yeah I heard it first on chart shows back in the day when it was released, wasn't into the band at that point but later in life I listened again and was like, hey hang on this one's really really good, like really good! Love that backing organ especially and wish they'd used texture like that on more of their songs honestly.
@@Torthrodhel My favourite Manics song is a B-side from that era: Donkeys. Great chord progression and melody, some of Richey's best lines -- and the best guitar solo.
@@secallen I don't listen to that one much, gonna have to give it another chance then. It's on Lipstick Traces I'm fairly sure. They could've done with another album like that honestly. I'm not generally into their covers at all (but then again the same goes for most bands), but their b-sides are wonderful.
Interesting that in the comments most of you don't know who's who, poor James, Nicky and Sean. ..... But more importantly, the Manics are fantastic even though we'd all pick a different top five. The Everlasting is number one for me and then, um, Tsunami, Archives of Pain, No Surface All Feeling and If You Tolerate this - but I might choose a different 5 tomorrow! And stop picking on Sean when you don't even know who he is!
i've seen koalas resemble sean in this vid - they eat the gum leaves and are on the verge of sleep because of the stoned propertys of the gum resin - you been eaten gum leaves dude ?
This is Yesterday Intravenous Agnostic Forever Delayed Sleepflower The Masses Against The Classes Bag Lady Yes Removables Condemned to Rock and Roll Archives of Pain
I think the songwriters are not the best to choose their own songs...... I think Intense Humming....... Is one of their best works but it's a brutal, damaged, deranged, unclean creation... Yet, under the vicious veneer lurks a battered, fragile song... It's not for the "background" or casual listening.... My top 5 would be ,( in no particular order)..... 1) Judge Y'rself 2) Condemned to Rock 'n' Roll 3). Montana, August , '78 4) Intense Humming of Evil 5). Comfort Comes....... But what the f¥€k do I know ?
LOL typical NME picking Design, Tolderate and Your love alone is not enough, hell even Motorcyle... its so predictable. Most Manics fans, proper ones would not have 3 of them in their ideal set list. So comerical, so over played. Faster yep, that's more like it but Manics have soooo many good songs that represent them and Richie, Design and Your love alone just sounds like Nicky, modern, commercial less raw and radio friendly.
They picked them themselves... Design and Tolerate are amazing songs, even though the albums they come from aren't as complete as THB in my opinion. It can be annoying that the Manics tend to ignore many of their great songs from the past in favour of the hits, but when you only have 5 places to pick the best EVER songs, of course it's going to be a bit predictable. Your Love Alone, I must agree with, I can't understand why anyone likes it. Nothing on SATT stands up to multiple listens.
Motorcycle Emptiness may be a bit overplayed but it’s not like the other hits, it still fits in with their earlier stuff and is a classic, deffo one of their best (not the best though, for me that has to be Motown Junk)
Legends. No other band sound or feel like this. In a world of derivative, real talent will always shine through.
Absolutely true
Bloody hell Sean, shut up! Poor Nicky and James not getting a word in.
hahahahahahahahahahaha........
Laughed my head off
😂😂😂😂😂😂

Faster is my favourite too.
Disappointing not to see "You Stole the Sun from me Heart" in their top 10. It's by far my favourite song of their's.
Effing brilliant - no more needs to be said

No one's mentioned autumn song or isn't it cool to like that one. Oh god I hope the keyboard bullies don't pick on me!
Three years late to the party but I agree. A beautiful and painfully underrated song.
Anyone else prefer their punkier material to their orchestral power ballad stuff?
Isn't opinion a beautiful concept
i'll second that.
welcome to sarcasm.
I actually find a design for life quite depressing and I'm not sure why
@Partoftheratpack James's voice is miles better than anything.

Sean does no say a thing in this part of the interview? Did you mean part 1?
Most of their non singles are better than their singles
5 songs from 5 different albums? These wouldn't be my top five. They're definitely flattering themselves by putting Your Love Alone... in there.
That’s nice of the Manics to let President Zelenskyy front their band
your love alone? nah
Sean does not interupt at all. He only talks about Richard Nixon song and its responding to the other members.
no offence intended but i believe you may need to get a firmer grasp on the concept of irony
James's voice is miles better than Nina's on that single!

The choice of the rockstars..there are always some nonsense in them.
