❤so needed to see this. I gave up on my rotary cutter. To buy the cutter, then buying an extra blade and never seeing it work except at the store on their stainless steel table top, I put it in my sewing box and gratefully appreciated my fabric scissors! I am old school I guess but gave it a try anyway. But thank you for the demonstration. ❤
My husband learned how to sharpen knives with the wet stone and he told me it is quite a unique skill! So your hubby has a fabulous skill! Be sure to tell him how awesome he is knowing how to use the wet stone! Thanks for your video. I like the sharpener too!
I wish I’d seen this video before I went out and bought new blades. I’m new to quilting and I can’t get over the cost of just one! I ended up buying a five pack for around $50 Australian dollars. But I’m gonna invest in one of this you showed us right now so I’ll always have it. Plus I thoroughly enjoyed watching you. I can also have the attention span of a gnat, so you kept it funny and no unnecessary info that drags on about each item. So I’ve subscribed, coz you are cool girl!
Thanks, I bought the omnigrid via your link. I hope you are getting affiliate compensation. I have been resharpening my rotary cutter blades by hand using 1200 grit polishing paper. This will be so much quicker and easier. Thanks for the tip.
I got an omni grid sharpener at a yard sale of a friend (it was her Mom's), but I haven't tried it yet ... now I'm excited that it did so well in your trials! Thanks!
I have found rotary cutter blades at Harbor Freight Tools. 2 blades for $1.79. They are in their rug cutting section. What a bargain! But I am going to look into a blade sharpener for all my other blades.
Does it matter what shape central hole you have in the blade? Does the 2nd sharpener require those little cutout shapes in the central hole, meaning a circular hole wouldn’t fit?
Yeah the #Trucut sharpener didn’t work for me either and actually made my blades duller. Unfortunately for me I waited several months before I used it so never returned it.
I use both a 45mm and a 60mm rotary cutter. If I buy the little handheld version, I will have to buy 2 (one for each size). I am guessing that the linear sharpener will work for any size blade. 2 handheld and 1 linear amount to about the same in price. So which would you recommend for me?
Thanks a bunch! I have always had a whetstone ... learned how to sharpen kitchen knives from my father when I was just a kid ... but I never tried to sharpen my rotary cutter blades with it. Duh! There is definitely an art to using a whetstone effectively. I would rather go the easy route I think so I might just purchase the 3rd one.
Great review , but I didn’t like the omnigrid sharpener. It didn’t sharpen my dull blade at all and I thought that it could easily yourself if you’re not careful. I plan to order the Trucut sharpener as it’s getting good ratings on several sites. However, one thing that I learned in all my blade sharpening research and trial was that the cutting mat should be cleaned regularly especially after heavy use.
Sharpening with the whetstone I think makes the most sense because your moving the cutter blade with the grain of the stone, similar to sharpening cutlery on a whetstone. The circular grinder seems off because your moving the blade of the cutter perpendicular to grain of the metal, like a floor waxer.
I bought the true cut sharpener I have no idea what I'm doing wrong it seemed to dull the blade instead of sharpening it, any suggestions what I'm doing wrong
@@lunasmum6869 hiya 👋 gotta ask ya 😉 Luna's Mum 🥰 did ya get to find a decent place for ALL fings rotary blade(s)?? PS i have a wet stone but i'm finkin mayb just buy the blades ! ?? What are ur foughts & fanx for any info in advance. Cheers x
I haven’t. I looked at some of them, but I needed to keep price in a reasonable rage..while still being able to get a couple of examples. Maybe another time??
I didn't use my rotary cutter for 1.5 years and it got dull even if I just bought and used it once. It didn't cut at all but just created a crease on the fabric. Really amazing because the cutter is of Clover 🍀, quite a good one so ²⁶⁶²4x⁵⁷
Super helpful video, thanks for doing the research for us! One thing though, at the 3:30 mark, the in/out of the camera isn’t good for the eyes or brain of your viewer. As a RN, this can cause a trigger for epileptics or, for me an instant headache and dizziness. Things like bright flashing lights (think fast strobe lights or a flickering light bulb that needs to be replaced) aren’t good for the brain and they’re hard to process. Again, love your videos, but might not want to use that particular effect for your viewers.
We recommend some other sources sometimes, but because we have Sewist friends all over the world, we like to recommend something that allows many locations to find it. You are always welcome to search for the item at any local store you enjoy supporting. Our product links are only there if you would like the ease of using them. Thanks for watching.
I gave up after 3:30 seconds of this video without getting to the point of actually finding a way to sharpen Rotary Blades. This was more of a video on what doesn't work rather then what does. Onto a video that does provide how to sharpen a rotary blade.
@@azaleasmom1 hi Ny i was lucky after scouring the internet i found an online shop in the neighboring country that sells it got it delivered today already and works like a charm. Now i gotta find the time to sharpen about 2 years of blades, i never tossed them because i had no idea how to dispose of them, didn’t want the garbage collectors or the people processing the garbage to get hurt so i just kept them. Guess who isn’t buying blades for the next foreseeable future 😁😂

Oh! I’m super glad this works for you. That’s so super.
I’ve wondered if those rotary blade sharpeners would work, thanks Ny. 🙌
I’m glad you know now yay!!!

Hello! Did you try it out???
I just didn't believe the omni grid thing would work, but now I'm going to try it! Thank you!
I hope you love it!
yay! I got a really nice rotary cutter (you probably recommended it!) as a gift, now I will have a way to keep it nicer, longer - thank you
Yes! 😍😍
I use my whetstone all the time! Never thought to us it for my rotary blades. THANK YOU!
Cool, it’s nice to have it already there no”?
It never would have occurred to me to sharpen rotary blades lol thanks again for the tips 😁
Happy to help!
Thanks Ny👍🏾 I have owned the Omnigrid for about 3 yrs now. I’m thinking about purchasing a hand crank one🤷🏾♀️
Oh cool! I didn’t know there were different types... :-)

I loved your video on sharpening blades. Thank you
You’re very welcome 😉
Thanks so much for this info. I had a stack of used blades that were dull. I just went through your link and bought the Omnigrid sharpener.
I hope it works out for you!!!
Thanks! I have the Omnigrid but couldn't figure out how to use it. You rock!
Glad I could help!
Aww so welcome!!!
You influenced me to buy the trusharp. I received it yesterday. Not only doesn't it work, but it ruined my blade. I sent it back. Lessoned learned.

First time seeing your UA-cam channel. You are so cute. You remind me of my granddaughter. Thanks for info to save money on rotary blades.
😍😍 you’re so good at this!!
Great tips and humor ! I’ll go for the least accidental injury model. I can stop the skipping and get another 10 years out of my one blade

So glad they're making tools like this! Thank you for your video. Cheaper AND BETTER for all those landfills. #righttorepair
oh well, that’s a way to think about it...Thanks!
That Trusharp looks good. I have one of those twisty things which is ok but fiddly. I will have to see if we can get them here in UK. Thanks so much.
I've looked and there is a place which sells them here. Not cheap so I've bookmarked the page so I don't forget where I saw it!
Nice, you are right about the Omnigrid. I almost dropped it on my lap this morning. I was scared at that moment...so I put it away.

I went back to look and yes, that was the part I've skipped really fast but I do that often, people use lots of unpleasant blinky things these days :(
OH! I am so glad you say this. I will try to be mindful of it in the future :-D
Love this!
This is so awesome!! Thank you❤❤ so much
Cool Beans

What is the angle of cutting edge of rotary blade

The whet stone needs to be soaked then use it. Or it needs to be whet
❤❤❤❤❤ 5/5
the long narrow blue sharpener got nothing but bad reviews on amazon
Thank You Pretty and Silly Lady.

OH darn....maybe look in to the culinary section of your stores and see if they have the whetstone. If you can get it right, you can save a bunch!
