I love you and Sew Rena. As an older black woman who loves vintage, in my personal view, I love to see women of color who are grabbing on to such classy era’s! I’m a fan and subscriber. Just keep being who you are, your channel is your journey! Happy sewing!

We need to say "yes" to more days off for no reason. I implemented that mindframe this year, and it has made such a positive impact on my mental health. I only took time for appts, etc, as well, but I realized that's still not a break because I'm busy all day. I take time off just to relax and sew. It's a beautiful thing.....

I really want for "posters" to upload what they want, when they want, without worries of subscribers or views count. If "viewers" like you, they'll watch. It's part project and part personality. Just be you. Do you.

@@SewSewDrewI had to come back and add... never take it personally. For me, so many health issues and Dr's, and procedures & surgeries... I cannot always watch when it's a fresh upload. However, I do go back and watch when I'm able, even older posted videos...
I explain this, just so you are aware, that if people like you, and they do! They will watch. So the numbers won't always be valid. What you do is more than numbers, to me. ❤ please embrace it even if numbers are low.

Yes. I see so many creators stressing out about the algorithm and making videos they're not interested in just to keep up with trends. I want to see people doing things they love.

I see this one family mom tweaks in most the shows to get views. Showing her body. Her older boy is looking at her its really creepy. People don't want that.
But your page is getting boosted alot now. Just jeep being you. You are the show. Id rather watch your show then tv. Keep it classy u will make it

I don't know if you watch her, but Lady Rebecca Fashions does some gorgeous historical costumes. I'm doing my first costuming coming up: 1840's dresses for myself and my (adult) child, a Scotts Victorian costume for my husband, and a Victorian working man's costume for my son. We will be going to a Dickens Fair next December. Wish me luck!

Drew, Im a day late and a dollar short on this video, but Im a new subscriber so Im wondering through your videos. lol I cant believe you only been sewing for 5yrs.! Very impressive especially sewing vintage pattern which can be a bit complicated even for a seasoned sewer. I am a tailor for nearly 40yrs now. I turn 62 in 2023 and retired early so I could finally stop sewing for other people and finally start sewing all the things that I never had time for. My grandmother was a tailor all her life and she put a needle and thread in my hands when I was 4yrs old and I took to it like a duck to water.lol I was making my barbie clothes at 7yrs old and making my own clothes at 14 and by my early 20s I was working in tailoring shops. In my 30s I moved to the UK for 7yrs and I took some Bespoke classes in London and took some fashion design and tailoring classes in Paris for a year. I raised 3 sons in the process. Making vintage and collecting vintage patterns has always been my weakness. You are so correct in saying you never stop learning with sewing. Just when I think I have learned it all I learn something new. I love your videos and I love you. You seem like such a lovely person with a sweet, kind and gentle personality and I enjoy and share your passion for sewing. Now I have to go find out how this dress turned out. lol Love the pattern. 😉

What an amazing life you have led. Sewing is a magical thing. My daughter major and I are starting Barbie clothes now and I hope it leads to some wonderful memories and moments between us. Thank you for the kind words they warmed me on this very cold morning. If you would ever like to correspond more my email address is always in the description and I welcome yours should I need someone of your skill level to answers a question or talk through a thing. Thank you again.
      With love,

I hope you've gotten the dress done. The color combo s fabulous. One of the last questions asked about your worst sewing habits, and one you said was not following the pattern layouts on the pattern. Well, yes and no. Everyone needs to understand that pattern layouts are more of a suggestion than a hard and fast rule. If you're working with fabrics that are directional, stripes, plaid, or fabric with a nap, like velvet or velveteen. Then you can't use the layout as shown. Back in the day, if a suggested fabric was one of those I mentioned, there would be specific yardage amounts and layouts for the extra fabric needed for matching and and such like. Sometime in the 70s the pattern companies stopped doing that. Nowadays you have to guess how much extra fabric you'd need for matching, etc. They never say how much nor how to lay it out. Usually a layouts will be fine, but not always. And then there are the times when you have your heart set on using a specific fabric in your stash for a specific garment only to discover you don't have enough of. That's when you have to get creative and figure out another that doesn't mess with grainlines.
You also mentioned a fabric you'd love to work with - specifically tweed - but that you worried about matching. Tweed is actually a fabric that doesn't require matching. Plaids and stripes need to be matched, but not tweed. It's because any pattern in the weave is so small it would be next to impossible to match it. Hound's-tooth is another patterned fabric where matching can't be done. Now Tailoring is fun, but you have to read the instructions very, Very carefully. I made a tailored blazer once. But I was also in a class specifically for tailoring. Yes, you could watch a video on it, but it would be better if you had someone experienced to help you when you needed them. Hummm, that sounds like another video I need to do. Happy New Year.

🖐🏽 I'm one of those who hates a hobby if I monetize it 😅 But I need the money 😢
The only thing I've made for someone else is a quilt to donate to a homeless shelter. It was my first & only quilt, &I learned to make it from my grandma. Since I'll be doing a quilting class soon, I've considered investing in a sewing machine & setup at some point. I wanna try it as a hobby, & since I'm 🙅🏽‍♀️ to making stuff to sell _(esp. having to do customer service),_ I'm considering creating quilts to donate. I'll get motivation & urgency but without the stress!

I totally get it!! My mother and I were just talking about donating blankets today! She said the homeless shelters are sometimes scared to take them. But nicu parents would love to have small quilts for their babies that’s something to think about donating them to. Happy New Year!!

Hi Drew I sure want to see that gorgeous dress finished.
I don't comment alot but I enjoy every video. I wanted to start dressing vintage by sewing all my clothes for a while now but I live on an island in the Caribbean where its hard to get regular sewing patterns and not owning a sewing machine anymore makes it even harder. I have seen your sewing skills grow with the years. You and Serena inspire me to get back into sewing and start my vintage sewing jourmey
Thank you for bringing me joy with your videos. Happy and blessed new year to you. and family.

And don’t forget before the sewing machine we just had our two hands! I hope in 2024 you sew something that is my wish for you ♥️Drew

Drew. Thank you so much for doing the Q and A. It was nice to learn a little bit more about you. I do like the way you do your videos with the helpful tips and I like how you share your thoughts it makes people reflect. I too enjoy sewing and feel like it is very therapeutic. Are you able to reduce your hours at work, work part-time? I did that and it has given me time to balance things so much better. Please always set aside time for yourself .

Glad you enjoyed it! And yes I have taken the entire holiday off so I have another week of vacation and my job has busy seasons and slower times so I’m working on finding the balance. It’s my first time working since having children but I feel like I am making a lot of progress with figuring it out. I’m sure as so as I do something new will get added to the mix. That’s the beauty of life, the unpredictability of it all. I’m trying to just relax and enjoy. This channel and the support I receive here definitely helps ♥️♥️

I am going to pause the video often enough to write down the last words for '23 and upcoming words for '24. How timely! I will take those words to heart for myself and send them to those whom I hold dear. Thank you for sharing them with us. It is always nice to get a greater perspective of someone who is "baring their soul" (while they work on a project.
I am looking forward to seeing the completed New Year's dress, and I am also anxious to hear about your upcoming visit with your mother. It is very clear that she raised a wonderful daughter! How nice that you are close with her, and what a wonderful legacy of memories for your children.
I just recently discovered your channel, and I am looking forward to exploring all of your videos from the oldest to the newest.

I get such a giggle from Stephanie Canada. When l was raising my children. I never believed in that is for girls or that is for boys. What l taught my girls l taught my boys. And what l taught my sons l taught my daughters. I was a single Mom most the time raising my children and a working one. I stood behind a chair for 25 yrs before l retired as a beauty school instructor. I had to teach my eldest daughter to cook over the telephone while l was at work after the person l interested to watch my youngest son didn't pay attention to the fact he got out of the yard at got hit by a car. He was a gifted child of 4. He was able to read at 1st grade level when he was 2 yrs old. Because of that accident he lost that ability. So l had to turn my children into what they called then lackey children. But my eldest daughter and youngest daughter watched their 3 brothers better than any sitter l had. They never knew when l would call them to make sure they where were suppose to be.

Everyone changes when the money is Offered. Journalist gets sold out are bought out.
I been on earth along time and what you are doing now will bring you up to the top. America needs people that are honest dependable creative. As of now America is failing fast. There was a day that people respected Americans. Those who went toChurch built up funds to help other countrys in poverty. We had Churches that had missions . Now they are gone. We cant even afford ourown families. Think why did people want to come here. But theres bad in all countrys. Because people are now struggling. I seen it first hand un my life. I dont have cable for tv no internet accept my phone. Just enjoy the journey dont look back. We all had bad things happen. Its 4 am and im sleepy, enjoy your life. Things can change overnight night
