Regarding the goals method Joe was talking about, it sounds like the SMART method for achieving objectives. Make your goals Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, & Time Bound. Your objective is "to become a better painter". Then you set your specific goals "paint 1000 point army to my standard" by. You can measure your progress on that goal, which is relevant, attainable and time bound. You can then set a new goal to further your progress on your objective.
My hobby resolution this year is finish a model a day. i have lots of 70-90% finished models all over so tricking myself into finishing them has worked wonders. 8 days in im currently at +23 so 31 models finished this year. I know this wont last all the way through but for now its working and im finishing of things i was painting last summer
2024 was filled with commissions for me. In 2025 I won’t be taking new ones and it’ll be the year of catching up on personal models and all the new Aeldari.
The feeling of not being able to post things unless it's absolutely your best work I could definitely relate to. However I get a lot out of seeing all types of work, sketches, simple kibashing, gaming stuff, can all spark inspiration! So I chuck everything out there now 😅
Loved how cagey the goal setting was this year. Good luck guys! But take umbridge at the comments around painting Legions Imperialis (LIMP) armies. I've painted two last year and the little fellas almost broke me...
Joe's Comment on Atomic Habits is spot on. That book is really good for those incremental gains in your skill. A little bit everyday is better than only once a week.
Joe's right about the goal setting. If you ever only have one goal ahead of you, then when you finish you stop. The key is to have several goals ahead of you, each progressively harder, and to replace a finished goal with another goal off in the distance. Do that and you're always growing. I also love the idea of a "bust off"! Could we get a painting session with everyone painting at the same time, talking as they paint and showing their work and techniques?
I find it more helpful not to see resolutions as a thing i'm going to beat myself with, but rather as a way to set priorities and avoid that task paralysis that often holds me back from getting on with it.
@SiegeStudios It did, I cleaned my paint water cups, got my palette fresh and ready to go after work but then I had to drive 6 hours away and am now staying in a hotel and wishing I had a mobile painting station like James! Would love a quick run down on his portable setup
Would be interesting to see a conversation about music between you guys. As a death metal fan myself we all know the connection between warhammer and metal. Just a thought and here's to ironskull 2025!
2025 goals are to play more and allow myself to just tabletop ready some army's just to get them on the table. On the other hand i want to finish my Warcrow bands at top notch level (nmm and all) 😅
I felt the picture and editing convo required Morgan Freemans voice over the top... James had infact not sent the picture and had to be called, because although running a world class painting company he refuses to get his shit together 😂😂😂
Try new tools, Toilet bowl paint pot 2025. Masterson for the win!! Also you guys should totally do a video where you try the tools we recommend. Don’t fumble it the way Squidmar did!
Finish Dark Angels and Blood Angels for adepticon, new death korps and eldar after....i would be worried but i do have all of the infantry(44 total) and characters done for Blood Angels, and half the inner circle box done for Dark Angels. Mainly inner circle left and some tanks/dreads.
I only finished my first year of painting mini's and my only real goal was to paint different sorts of mini's wich I did; space marines, chaos cultists, plague marines, necrons and now busy with the age of sigmar xmas nurgle box wich has loads of different models. My goal for this year is to try out different techniques and try and finish models instead of leaving them at around 80-90% 😅
My goal is to complete a miniature. I must have loads of half done or primed Dark Angels. I've got a squad coming of my best work so far and just want to complete them. Also to complete my orks army.
Mine is to finish 2000pts of my Blood Angels - admittedly if they hadn't put all my 30k stuff into legends I'd be a lot closer to that, but I've got a converted Sanguinor and 10 heavily kitbashed Death Company nearly finished so it's a start.
In a hope that I will finish building, cleaning, and undercoating my Cadians this year and build a small(ish) Krieg force (because I have James' problem with armies and making decisions) does anybidy have any hacks on how to clear up those small areas of plastic glue overspill where it leaves a small ridge on the plastic? Will sanding sponge work? A file is too big to reach the area (flat panel on the front of a tank and I don't want to re-sculpt rivets), so any suggestions gratefully received...
I love the videos and the way you all interact with each other. However, someone keeps clicking their tongue or sucking their teeth, and it's so very annoying
"never even touched a bust" - yeah, Warhammer will do that to you.
😂
Looking forward to dodging this soundbite minefield throughout the rest of the year 😭
Joe's pro gamer tag gets me every time

Joe's Obituary cap is solid. 10/10

Good start to the year! always a good listen! hobby goal this year, not a new army, just more Blood Angels!
I know at least 2 out of our 3 hosts will be in favour of this 🤣

I love this 🔥

It's a game changer for sure!

Love this!
What an awesome surprise to find this available on my way to work this morning. Much better than Thursday mornings!
Glad you like it! We thought it might suit everyone a little better
Love the Monday podcasts now, it’s 5:32am and it’s perfect getting to watch this before work
Good morning! Hope it sets you up for the day!

@@marshalkyle283 Great idea! I'll put it to the team

Great podcast to start the new year with!

Always fascinating to hear this perspective!

I tend to confuse the piss out of myself over all the options, styles, techniques etc. So this year I'd like to get a better grasp on it all
My goal is the same: finish 10th edition starter box before 11th comes out. About half way in both time and progress
Bust off is WILD! 😂😂😂😂😂

Does painting a space marine torso and head without the legs attached count as painting a bust? Just a vey small one!!!
We do enjoy a rule bend to be fair 😂
Almost finished painting my first Blood Angels model 😂

Gracias por activar el modo de doblaje, así os podemos escuchar en diferentes idiomas.
Don’t worry James, I also got 32 tanks…
… for Legions Imperialis ;P
My Thursday days off have been attacked
BUST OFF 2025! LETS GO!
How about you each have to paint one mini between each video and then you'll have an army by the next year.
Cries in Mordian
Adeptus March-canicus is better then Admech April!
We simply cannot dethrone March for Macragge!
Get your busts out for the Lads 😂

How to become a better painter.... 1 hour of giving one another shit for last years new years resolutions... yeah. Good time spent
