  • The extraordinary case of the twin boy left behind in India was first revealed by Foreign Correspondent and ABC News earlier in 2015. But his identity and fate stayed a mystery.
"It's a criminal offence in many places. I think it's an appalling thing." - Australian judge
The decision of the Australian adoptive parents shocked senior Australian judges interviewed by Foreign Correspondent.
"Was the child sold? Was the child left on the street? What has happened to the child?" - Australian judge
"Whether he's been placed in a rich, well to do family where he gets every amenity, we don't know." - Arun Dohle, child protection advocate
Reporter Samantha Hawley teams up with two Indian child protection campaigners as they weave through Delhi's labyrinthine bureaucracy and backstreets on a hunt for the twins' birth records, the boy's adoption papers and details of the surrogate mother and Australian parents.
Hawley reveals how the case worried Australian consular officials in Delhi. Australian High Commission staff tried desperately to persuade the Australian family to take both twins back home.
But Canberra sent approval for citizenship and a single passport to be given to just one child - the girl - despite international commercial surrogacy being outlawed in the Australian parents' home state.
"I would describe it as aiding and abetting the Australian couple abandoning the child." - senior New Delhi lawyer Shekhar Naphade
"We have done everything legal." - Australian father of the boy left behind
In this tragic story about one baby boy who became the by-product of an unruly $500 million industry, two leading judges tell Foreign Correspondent it's now time for the Australian Government to take a lead in reforming the system.

CPTSD symptoms will show up in childhood and adult life. Babies treated as products losing connection with the birth mother will suffer emotionally. Trust me. I am one of those products. Adults cannot disregard the right to identity and roots. Yet this is business as usual.

Their only reasoning being "we can't afford it" (but you could afford the whole surrogacy process and travel costs?) and "we already have a boy". It's like they are talking about a car or some other lifestyle choice. Beyond comprehension.

@@annaf3915 yes they are full of shit and made up that story, just because they only wanted a girl as they already had one boy, they are selfish, cruel and horrible people that abandoned their own child, and deprived a twin of her brother. Their actions are deeply immoral heartless and spineless and both of them need to be prosecuted and justice served. Their names should be be shamed all over the world. Children are not commodities.

Typical example of unfit parents who should not even have children to begin with. They are neglectful narcissistic personalities with interest in their own agenda. Wait till the twin sister grows up and finds out what happened to her and her twin brother. If she is a healthy human being after receiving long-term therapy for the trauma this has caused her while growing up around emotionally immature parents, she will leave the narcissistic family system and go no contact. I hope she reunites with her twin brother one day. Honoring the lost connection with her brother will be healing.

🤔 ~ Shame on this reporter and her editors for not naming the parents. In a very similar story you DID name the parents of an Australian couple who left their brain damage daughter in an Ukrainian orphanage. Which is worse, leaving a child that you think is gonna die and that his brain damage so having them will dramatically hurt your lifestyle, or just living a normal child because it’s a slight inconvenience? So why name one parents and not the other?

Selfish self entitled brats, People like these parents should never be allowed to have kids ever or have their children removed from them, because their actions show their selfish wants comes before the children. This happens so often or the biological parents demand termination of multiple pregnancy, because the so called parents only want 1 or a certain gender. Be grateful for the blessing of being able to be a parent, don't take it for granted or abuse it.

I would say that this video is clueing that you'd be happiest as to not accept a raise and instead that they can not fire you and to be only laid off only when sick and to live in only an RV motor home and not purchase a car only too work as a driver or delivery and you'd live a lot longer and happier life.

This is because people who put their child into someone else's womb don't have the same attachment to the child as the carrying mom .I am all for surrogacy however surrogate moms should be payed at least 300k not 5 or 6 k .In this case the egg was from a donor that is why the so called mother did not fight for her child .The dad did not fight for his bio child because giving sperms costs nothing to him as long as he doesn't have to raise the child ( same reason why plenty of bio dads easily leave their children that they have not invested in ) .

Watch the broadcast they just posted about an American couple doing the exact same thing after commissioning a baby through a surrogate in Ukraine. She was born with a bunch of disabilities so the Americans literally just left her there to be raised in institutions for the rest of her life. The mom is a hollywood film producer and the father is in the film industry as well. Despicable.

Surrogacy isn’t a bath thing horrible making money companies inter country shite is the wrong thing! My first died I needed fertility treatment for my second and I wished and hoped for a baby I would have done anything and surrogacy would have been an option.. this bartering shit is the problem. I know two people who have been surrogates they are wives who have had there children who are wishing to give couples the joy they have done which is how it should be not dirt poor women who have no choice but to sell themselves in ANY way they have to.

I haven't finished watching yet but it seems like they when to another country for surrogacy and expected 1 child but found out it was 2 and probably didn't want to do abortion or weren't allowed to so put 1 child up for adoption... the sister and brother in law say the child is with extended family who are well off and care for the boy... he was legally adopted... what is the real concern here? That one person who was far removed from the case said she thought that money had changed hands? I don't understand why people are acting like it's such a tragedy?

    • @diannelee1267
      @diannelee1267 3 роки тому +5

The sister and brother in law don't know where the child went, don't know what the adoptive father does for a living or what the Australian father does for a living. All he knew was that the potential adoptive father had enough money to pay the asking price for the baby. Who knows maybe the child was sold on, sold as a slave, sold into prostitution, no-one knows, and this is the point about how this industry can be a conduit for child trafficking with no background checks or assessment of the suitability of the parents who have commissioned the surrogacy. This is a shocking story and it seems that Australian embassy officials were complicit in the disappearance of the boy
