말레이시아에 살고 있는 두딸맘 애플쌤입니다^^

A language teacher told me it's better that one parent speaks only one language to their children. For example if one chose to speak Korean only to the children, then the partner must speak English only to the children all the time 😁 This teacher's child spoke 3 languages when I met them.

I think children are multilingual, they have the capabilities better than adult. It is the adult that gave children the limitations.

Your children's English are very impressive and it good to learned that as a 2nd language.I still think you should continue speaking to your children's in Korean so that they won't forget their mother tongue.Its good if your children's can mastered many languages.I myself speak used English as my 2nd language when I speak to my 21 year old son.We still speak bahasa melayu occasionally.Beside English,I can.speak in Mandarin and some of the local Chinese dialects such as hokkien and Hakka.As I am from Sarawak,I do speak the local tribes dialects such as bidayuh and iban too.My father is a Chinese and my mother is bidayuh so it a privilege I had to be able to communicate in both languages.

Because kids mainly speak English in International schools they will pick up the language much quicker. Also there many of the students are from different countries, so the only way they communicate with each other is English. They won't be shy to speak in English because their Englidh profiency are almost at the same level. Anyway, hope they will not neglect their 한 국 어 mother tongue.

아이들끼리 영어를 사용하다 보니까 더 금방 영어와 친해질 수 있는 것 같아요~~
얼른 코로나로부터 자유로워져서 학교에 자유롭게 나가 친구들과 좀 더 소통하며 지내면 좋겠어요🙂
Wow ! Impressive. Because they are studying in an International School, their standard / proficiency in English is definitely better than the average Malaysian student from national type schools. Their pronunciation of words is super clear & you can even hear a slight pick up of accent. Well done & 화이팅 !

Yes, the study environment help a lot. Student from national school may also good in writing, but we're not English people, so we just speak English with slang like our mother tongue and language except student which family speak English at home, they will much better in pronunciation. But most Malaysian can at least understand and speak basic English even though with broken style.
I think you should continue speak korea as always because they already can speak basic English and almost advance.

Your daughter will have a very bright futures since she can understand English very well especially if they were going back to their home country to work when they grown up because in Korea the percentage of understanding is very small percentage and maybe they can travel to western countries for better job. Both of them speak quite fluent american accent. Their teachers must be mostly american right? Or from other countries as well?
Hi!! Thanks for the comment!! They go to international school and their homeroom teachers are Americans. They also have some teachers from Malaysia, too.^^

Your children are very fluent in English. It sounds more like American English. It is due to a lot reading. Malaysian are known to read less. Reading is the key. Just make sure enough supply of reading materials. Those days is it expensive, a lot of parents pay a fortune on books, as everything comes with hardcopy, nowadays with internet and Kindle(ebook), the cost is lower. Encyclopedia used to cost about RM2k, now it is obsolete, everything is on the net.

안녕하세요 국제학교 온지 2달조금 넘은것같은 4학년 엄마에요. 말레이시아는 아니구요 여기 학교도 한국인들이 많아서 여자애 특성인
한국인 단짝이 생겨서 방과후에도 계속 붙어다녀요 못놀게 할수도 없고.. 저래서 외국인애들이랑 사귈 기회가 있을까 싶어요ㅜ
어떤분은 1년지나서 한국인 적은 학교로 옮기라고 말씀하신분도 있어서.. 아이성격은 활발한 편이에요 한국인들과 가깝게 지내도 영어가 늘까요? 계속 사는게 아니고 3,4년후에는 한국에 돌아가야 되거든요 ㅜ

저도 이곳에서 같은 문제로 고민하시는 분들을 종종 봐서 공감이 가네요…
제 경우에는 장기간 거주를 할 계획이어서 한국 친구들과 가깝게 지내거나 반에 한국인 비율이 많아도 크게 신경쓰지 않았던 것 같아요…
그런데 기간이 정해져 있다면 조금 신경이 쓰일 것 같기도 하네요…
학년이 바뀌면 아이의 단짝이 바뀌기도 하고 같이 노는 친구들도 달라질 수 있어서 조금 더 지켜보시는 것도 좋을 것 같아요^^
저희집 아이들 같은 경우엔 방과후엔 주로 집에서 놀기 때문에 영어책을 꾸준히 읽히고 원어민 음성에 노출시킬 수 있는 콘텐츠를 접하도록 했는데 생각보다 영어를 잘 흡수하게 되더라고요…
한국친구와 놀더라도 매일 시간을 정해 영어책과 원어민 음성에 노출시켜주시면 도움이 될 수 있어요^^
