Highland cattle are gentle and intelligent. I raised them for many years. A wonderful breed.

Brutus is entering his gangly stage. I bet it won't be long , before he warms up to the new additions.

Highlands are the cutest cattle ,
Brutus is doing his job. He is seeing animals that don't belong in his mind. So he's doing what he thinks what he should be doing.
Yes they are new, he will learn they are part of the farm soon, these are the first new animals he has seen here.
I wonder if it would help him acclimate to the new animals if he spent a little time in his enclosure, so he could be nose-to-nose with them. Even seeing "his people" brushing them might help.
After they are there for a while Brutus will like them like the others just new to him !...
They're going to have to get used to Brutus too.
Brutus is sure growing. He’s already growing to be a big boy. Nice thing about used bedding material. It can go right into the compost pile. Nothing gets wasted.

Morgan at Goldshaw farms is getting new calves from his Highlands,you will love them I hope they have been socialized.
Lime the floor to control smell and bacteria before the pine shavings. Sterilize their living quarters.
I thought of that too, unless Al didn't film doing it.
Can just hear Brutus, "These are not like the others!" Beautiful cows. Being able to brush and be around them shows how well they have been handled previously. Great addition. Been noticing this for quite some time, love how neat you keep everything. Of course, the shop and barn, but all around the homestead. There will be piles of "stuff" but you've kept everything so tidy looking.
Highland cattle should be perfect for your climate. Nice!

I would collect their fur and see if anyone wanted it to spin into yarn. It can also be felted quite easily. The long outer coat is somewhat thick and itchy when worn next to the skin, but would make great warm outerwear. The inner fur is softer, but hard to separate from the coarse outer layer..
Those hihlands are so gentle. Well done by the farm you bought them from!

I also guessed cattle but not what kind. Was nice to see your daughter again. Seems when they get a certain age they don't want to be in videos. She sure does take after her mom. I got to thinking while watching. You are the first you tubers i starting watching. I don't remember how many years it has been but that got me into watching more and more. I no longer watch tv shows anymore. I know i can watch you tube and not have to put up with foul language and such. Thank you for being here for us.

Where I grew up in The Welsh Marches, one of our neighbours had Highland Cattle. The fields only had strands of barbed wire fence, and they used to walk through those strands as if they weren't there. If we were paid for every time we came across them in the lane, we'd have made a pretty penny. 😂
They were always easy to get back into the fields, even though they were hardly handled, and they always did well on the scrub grass of the hillside. Great cattle to start with on the beef front.
Always check fence with the tester before starting work on it..

I'm so glad you got Highlands for the farm! I love that breed. They seem to be pretty chill already. You may be interested in a farm/animal sanctuary in VA (I think) called Thistle Do. Mark has two Highlands who have their own channel, Hamish and Kyloe. He can even take a nap on them when they're lying down. He brushes his two often and they are the biggest I've ever seen. ~ Congratulations. They're beautiful.

Brutus isn't scared of them. He recognizes that they are not supposed to be there. It will take him a couple of days to figure out that they belong to you and he will be guarding them too. Every new animal you bring to the farm Brutus will see as a threat. He is just doing what comes naturally.

George is perfect. Miles will be yummy. Recommends buying a couple of Highland cows and having a proper little fold. The jersey cross progeny will be heavy milk producers in the beef herd and so will grow calves well and that's worthy.
It will be fun to see a highland- jersey cross, will it be a short haired highland or a long haired jersey, we'll have to wait and see !

Highlands are great for outside during the winters as well. Chad Doss @DossFarms, has a Highland JuneBug, and she loves Chad and follows him like a puppy. She the QUEEN of a herd of LongHorns!!!!

Hey yall, I am glad to see your farm shaping up. I know how excited you must be. Love the new bull & steer. I grew up on two farms, and my favorite was my uncle in Washington state. He had everything & every animal + he ran a dairy delivery service as well as huge crop fields. My grandfathers farm had just 160 acres of crop fields and a huge three acre garden that fed 10 large families.
Don't forget to mix in your ash when you turn your compost pile. FYI; a good operational compost will devour an entire chicken in just four days.
Looks like you need a "go bag" for all that travel tools.

Those highland cows are cool. They are a rather calm cow. Can’t wait to see the kind of calf that you have. It was nice to see Olivia again, she is about as tall as Gina is.

Hi Gina! Bought some cold brew this afternoon and the cold brew setup you have to make it! I’d LOVE it if you could do a little demonstration sometime soon even though I think k you might have done one last year. Might be hard to find it. Maybe show all the steps on how you make it…the proportions you use….and how you make the cold foam…and any other secrets to summer drinks you make with it. Do you add any maple syrup or sweetener? Ever add a little chocolate and ice snd then blend it to make a Frappuccino type drink?

So Miles the companion steer and George the bull steer. George reminds me of the cartoon of the Sheep-dog that would punch his time card and say "Good morning Sam, and Sam would say, "Good morning Ralph!" Wow it's totally makes me at home to see Highland Coo's as i stay in Scotland and they are great to see and the beef is really lovely when you get around to that stage. They are the hardest animal you can get for your weather out i the USA.

The Highland boys are a great addition to your farm and it is so nice that they are so friendly. Brutus isn't used to seeing hairy cows but he will soon get to know that they are his to guard. Glad to see Olivia if only for a quick glimps.

Good Morning! Your wire hook over the switch terminal went on backwards. You should always wrap it clockwise over the terminal bolt so putting on the nut tightens it. Not a big deal with electric fence wire, but it is when doing your own electrical work. Do it right so you develop a good habit. Is your new Highland bull A2A2 certified?

clip on the fence tool is clever. My solution through the years was to buy so many of them I could always find one. Glove box, tool box, tool bucket for fencing..multiple tools everywhere. I'm thinking the clip would have been cheaper. One thing is for sure - fixing fence is an easier job when you have one!

How wonderful are they. The meat from highland cows is amazing. I had one for my freezers from a friend, I couldn't believe how beautiful it was, it tasted how beef used to taste.
