- Many people know Laurie Metcalf for her role as Aunt Jackie on the hit series “Roseanne,” or more recently as playing Saoirse Ronan’s mother in the movie “Lady Bird.” Despite her success on screen, Metcalf says she feels most comfortable in the theater. In this week’s Sunday Sitdown, the “Three Tall Women” actress talks to Willie Geist about her love of acting.

She's one of those actresses who truly deserves all the success that comes to her. So glad to see her having a great year. She's been underrated for a long time and she's finally gaining back the recognition she deserves.
Yea I love her too.
Underrated? By whom? She's got two Tony awards and three consecutive Emmy awards (nominated for a consecutive four). I don't think anyone is underrating her. She just chooses theatre over big films, hence low level fame. She's said multiple times that she prefers theatre over film, and she's offered some of the best roles on Broadways. Hardly underrated. Staying out of the limelight and not throwing herself into the media every five seconds does not equal underrated.
