    In this video, I review the Abmat crash cushions which reduce the noise made from deadlifts and olympic lifting. They also act to protect the floor from damage. I personally like plan on using them as a strongman crash pad - circus dumbbell, stones, kegs, etc.

    That's a solid and fair review. To my ears, those deadlift deadeners don't make much of a difference in terms of sound. I also can't really fathom why anyone would want to use them and still enjoy training. I mean, what's next, do you have to not even breathe and instead also walk on tiptoe? I get it, some lift at home and people live next doors or below. That was a reason for me not to start a home gym. I was thinking I'd still get complaints. Just the idea I have to be really quiet when lifting does make lifting more difficult. It's like an extra layer of difficulty. I don't make sound just for the heck of it, but when things get heavy for me I can't help that a deadlift makes noise or the plates make that sound that is like music to my ears. It happens even on a strict press; the iron plates make that particular sound they make when you lock out hard. I love the sound of iron. However, I dislike people throwing around weights being careless and disrespectful.
    Years ago, I started my journey in a commercial gym (fitness center really) that was anti-deadlift and they only had dumbbells going up to 30 kg and more of this nonsense. However, they never mentioned upfront that deadlifting was not really allowed. So I join up and I do basic starting-strength like programming of compound movements. To me, that was logical. However, that fitness center hated it. These places want people signing up and staying away or, if they do come, walk a bit on the treadmill or dance on a stability ball, and call it a day. That fitness center even had some bumpers, so why have bumpers if you're not allowed to do anything with them? Fun. They looked like new too. Well, I digress. I despise fitness centers. Fortunately, more real gyms are becoming available, but still rare where I live. It almost is this far I am tempted to start my own, but I know from these Train-Untamed videos and others that it's not so easy. Maybe I have to become more despised with the state of the fitness world before daring to take the first step.

    • @Siberius-
      @Siberius- 2 роки тому

      Slightly late reply. Why compare to other people? were you thinking of competing in a lifting sport?
      Someone with your age, height, and weight, could lift much less than that, and it still be extremely impressive, since there's so many variables for each individual.
      How much sleep are they getting, what is their diet like, how much training do they do, are they consistent, is their training program good for them, do they have a specific program at all, do they have low testosterone or something, are their genetics shit in various ways? so much crap.
      If it's just about getting in shape, then who gives a fuck about anyone else, and also who cares about how much weight is lifted, when that might not be the important thing at the end of the day, or the goal. For people wanting muscle, they can lift VERY light and still get heaps of muscle if they do it right. The lighter you can get away with lifting, the easier it is to set up the weights and less money if you're buying weight, etc.
      I don't know your goals and reasons, but yea some shit to think about maybe. I personally couldn't give a shit how much weight I can lift, or how I compare to other people. I'm working out for me, and I have my own goals separate from what other people are doing and thinking.
      Also at formerly-16, there no hurry at all to have a massive 1-rep-max, unless it's for competition or something, or a goal in and of itself for reasons. At least never compromise on form in pursuit of 1RMs, screw that.

    Got in trouble at Planet Fitness for deadlifting 4 plates because I was “intimidating.” I asked whether it was intimidating that I was making noise or that I was lifting heavy? (I wasn’t making very much noise). Needless to say, I found a real gym and don’t go to planet anymore

      there are stronger people, that can do more weight, and do it quieter, if you want to scream and grunt, James Dean always needs a co-star

    Hit the nail on the head. Squeezeing a workout in while the baby is napping is twice as quiet while twice as hard because you got to take it down slow with lots of control

    I've been wanting to get a pair of those so I can deadlift in my apartment but it looks like it takes about 5 in off of the range of motion on your rep. I mean I'm going to need some platforms to compensate for that because I don't want to be doing half deadlifts just for the sake of being quiet and protecting the structure of my apartment
