I love the way that you took such a complex design and made it simple to run. I've been working on a card game over the past few years and one huge struggle has been finding a balanced way to run a pve game mode without a dm or placing limits on cards, like giving boss cards cooldowns on forced moves (that made my test runs feel way too clunky) this looks like it flows smoothly.
Agreed there are some cards that simply bypass the horde's rules. Currently I'm aiming for a rule zero approach but I am open to a starting a ban list as the Horde Mode community grows.
Could we get examples of horde decks I need to understand the layout of the deck a little better. I just got my 13, 12, and 6year old sons into commander and this sounds like something they would enjoy. I can’t wait to try this out with them
I have been thinking of a horde deck to try with my friend online, and we now have the start of an Ooze horde. The main thing is that all but the lord has death trigger to split. The elite splits into 2 dangerous, the dangerous splits into two common, and it’s all the Mitotic Slime death line. The lord is a biowaste blob that doesn’t care about having the commander out, so it starts small, just a 1/1 the first turn, but on the 5th turn it’s 5 5/5s
Seems funny, although magic does have a lot of edge cases. For example, what if a horde creature phases out? I presume you remove a counter temporarily, or it removes the entire horde? Similarly, can they be enchanted with pacifism, and similar "a part of the horde needs to act differently" cards? Finally, since the horde does not have mana, and interaction seems rare, since there is no mechanism for targeting, how would the horde deal with propaganda/ghostly prison like effects? Or one of those angels that asks one to either attack or cast spells that turn, not both?
How do effects that forces an opponents creature to “fight” a monster of yours play out. Could you use another players creature and do you face off against just one horde counter or the whole creature
@@devinhubert1 i believe in this case you can refere to the battle/combat section, as "fighting" virtually works just about the same way as "combating"
- Fight Effects against the horde would target one Horde Counter or a non-combat horde creature -horde counter has power equal to the base horde creature -If the Fight effect says target creature another player controls you can target other survivor's creatures or a Horde Counter -if the Fight effect says target creature an opponent controls survivors can only target horde counters or Non-combat Horde Creatures.
I understand that "The Hoarde Swells" cards are specific-to-format cards with no effect other than increasing the hoard swells counters, but what is to be considered "Hoarde spell" cards? are these, like in the video, custom-made cards for this mode, or is it just any set of 15 spells that are synergistic or thematic with the hoarde deck? thanks.
Hi You can use Official Magic Cards or custom card. I am going to work on getting short videos out showing off the Custom cards I use with my playgroup.

There is something here, some fine tuning is needed but it sounds fun :o
I’d say that there needs to be bans of things that exile instead of going to the grave, like rest in peace or leyline of the void
yeah or you play elsh norn and every common hord creature is dead. i would use the ban list from the original horde magic format.

That sounds like a fun Idea! I think that is a great way to do the Ooze Horde. Do you mind If I use that for my iteration of the Ooze Horde?

Thanks for the feedback I'll start writing those up in the rules document! I plan to post a errata videos as I address the edge cases I missed!

Since the Horde only adds Horde Counters to a creature when they play from the Horde Library Flash is functionally a dead keyword on Horde Creatures.
