A great setup you have there. If you size the battery bank right, you'll have battery power to run your refrigeration and other essentials for 24 hours, and only need to run the generator for a few hours a day to keep the batteries charged.
exactly what I was looking for info on. Very cool setup! Great way to stretch your gasoline supplies during an outage. Idea for ya: There are adapters for ryobi 18v lithium batteries on amazon. People use them for all sorts of stuff because there is a low voltage cutoff built into their batteries. It would be cool to see a bank of their batteries wired up to this system. I'm unsure of how they stack up cost wise compared to anything else, but the dual use factor is nice. As a price reference, I got two of their 18v 4ah batteries for 79 bucks from home depot.
I have one AIMS 4k 48V inverter charger working with an Atkinson Electronics GSCM-mini to start my Kohler 5.5k RV generator. The one thing not mentioned in the AIMS manual is that the inverter must be set to "Battery Priority" for the AGS function to work properly. If set for "Utility Priority" the moment it recognizes the generator as a valid power source it clears the "Low Battery Fault" that would call for the generator to start.

How do you have your dip switchs set? As grid or battery priority? And does the generator turn off when the batteries are fully charged? So they won't become over charged.
I have my deep switches set to AC priority and yes once the battery is filled the generator shuts off. Let me know if you’re interested I will be selling this set up.
Hey Gavin, I have a question for ya, I just bought a brand new 6000 watt aims inverter charger it's a 48v. I have a 80amp hour, battery that's fully charged. And the inverter won't even start up. It drops my voltage down so low turns off. The aims tech said that I need at least a 200amp hour battery. I don't even have a load on it. Any ideas?

Great question! The load is transferred to the generator power which also has clean sine wave power as well.
Inverter or regulated output generators would be your best bet.

Hey Gavin a quick question does the AGS cable come included with inverter or generator and also are the inverter cables 2awg?
@@samtour8545 The cable are not included because any two wire will work for this

Sun gold and aims are made by the same company
They are identical inverters in operation

It comes with the option for AGS I just added the wire

Yes you can control the charge voltage
and the current too

🤣🤣 I’ll be the first one to admit I’m not perfect made me laugh too.
I haven’t researched the AGS on any other Generator but I’m pretty sure it has the same plug It would work
It will work with any generator that requires a normal open start signal. Typically a two-wire system.
What about using a regular (not inverter generator) 4800 watt generator to power the Aims 4000 pure sine wave inverter charger? Would that be OK?
No that would not be good it would possibly over heat and mess up the whole inverter
Your inverter requires a clean power input. Most standard generators put out very dirty uneven power. I have learned this the expensive way.
Is your generator a pure sine or modified? Does this inverter accept modified and smooth it back out to pure sine during bypass mode
It’s a pure sine wave inverter
is the out put on this inverter just a dry contact? for the auto gen start.
I think so but I haven’t tested it yet
Can you recommen light to reduce spark?
Any 12v bulb will work.

Atkinson Electronics GSCM will help you get it hooked up.
Which of the inverters generator you have test so far have the auto start system?
I’ve tested a few generators with the ATS plug but they’re not really auto start system because you still have to buy the ATS to control that system
Is it possible to clean up the sine wave on a dirty output generator?
I haven’t seen any device that will allow you to do that other than having a pure sine wave inverter
