Hello. I am taking an MAOI, and I am also a nurse. Neither Tylenol, NSAIDs, Calcium, or antacids cause hypertensive crises. Not to be rude, but I am not sure where this information comes from? However, there’s a significant risk of serotonin syndrome when mixing MAOI and dextrometrophan - which is a common component of OTC cold/flu mixture drugs. There’s no danger from plain Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
There used to be a time they used anti-anxiety meds for anxiety. Nowadays, they are trying to criminalize benzos. I was prescribed antihistamines for severe anxiety.

Something that needs to be also mentioned is grapefruit because I got a lot of whether or not grapefruit was acceptable/contraindicated to take with meds. Also with garlic, St. John’s wort, ginkgo. “What is safe to take with this med?” “What should I tell the patient to avoid taking?”
Garlic and Ginkgo can increase risk for bleeding. Those should be avoided while taking antiplatelets or anticoagulants. And grapefruit, as far as I know, should be avoided while taking Antilipidemic “Statins”, and also Calcium Channel Blockers.

I just quit venlafaxine cold turkey . I am on day 5 . I have never been physically addicted to a drug in my life before I was prescribed medication. I used to think I needed a cigarettes but it wasn't a physical addiction like venlafaxine.
I have a hypothesis. I understand that amphetamines are used and abused as a psychiatric medications for add and adhd because there hasn't been a actual medical reason to take it. It was prescribed in the 50s as diet pills anyways , My grandma is in her mid 80s and she has rheumatoid arthritis she takes prednisone for it and she transforms into a bear because she was prescribed 20 mg a day but she only takes 5mg unless she has a flare up and then she will take the full 20 mg . Rheumatoid arthritis is a auto immune disorder. I wonder if a low dose of amphetamine would be a better medication for her to take during flare up rather than prednisone and all its side effects like adrenal adenoma from long term use.
My grandma had a kidney removed. Its my hypothesis that Stimulating the adrenal gland with a small dose of norepinephrine and dopamine would be a better way to treat rheumatoid arthritis than prescribing prednisone because the long term effects of prednisone use decreases the function of the adrenal glands causing a double edged sword.
The section on MAOIs is woefully inaccurate. In addition to the issues described below you failed to name the most commonly prescribed non-selective, irreversible MAOI, tranylcypromine. Any alcohol produced commercially makes use of selected yeast that minimizes tyramine production. Microbes that produce high levels of tyramine also tend to produce taste/smell associated with rotting (putrescine and cadaverine are the big ones) and therefore are not present in starter cultures for commercial fermented products. **Unfiltered** beer on tap could be a concern, but likely only if consumed in excess. Sausages and salami are fine. Back when MAOIs were more widely used, dishonest butchers or restaurants would pack spoiled meat into sausage or make it into salami or pepperoni. This led to people on MAOIs consuming hundreds of milligrams of tyramine and having HTN reactions. Modern food safety standards put a stop to this. Even the champions of tyramine-rich cheeses require you to eat a frankly disturbing amount risk serious harm. Tyramine does not regulate blood pressure in humans, nor is it an amino acid. It's a biogenic amine, and is produced by microbes with a specific enzyme--tyrosine decarboxylase. An impressive study on commercially and home produced Kimchi revealed that so long as a starter is used, as opposed to relying on natural inoculation, the resulting tyramine content is negligible. As for chocolate, that's pure nonsense and I have no idea where that myth came from. You'd have to eat ~ 3kg of the most tyramine rich dark chocolate to even reach the tyramine threshold at which blood pressure starts to increase. None of the OTC products you mentioned are in any way problematic when combined with MAOIs. You also managed to miss EVERY dangerous OTC med for people on an MAOI. Dextromethorphan, chlor/brompheniramine are the big ones due to risk of serotonin toxicity. A lot of people say Sudafed is an absolute contraindication as well, but the truth is it's safe when taken in normal doses. Now on to interactions with other antidepressants. All SSRIs and SNRIs are potentially fatal when combined with an MAOI. The TCAs are a very diverse class of drug, and technically include everything from anti-emetics, to non-stimulant ADHD meds. Excluding Clomipramine and Imipramine (the serotonergic TCAs) they are all perfectly safe when combined with MAOIs, and in fact Nortriptyline and Desipramine may be protective AGAINST HTN crises. It's only a 2 week washout when stopping an MAOI. If switching to an MAOI it's 5 half-lives after d/cing the prior AD. For sertraline for instance it's 5-7 days. Also no one in their right mind is going to prescribe an MAOI to a child or teenager, the black box warning is on all ADs regardless of any evidence the specific med increases suicidality.

Came across this interesting video bc can’t find the right antidepressant to go with VY that was prescribed for ADD that might actually be CPTSD - and not paying attention might be a learned developed coping mechanism (in EMDR rn) which, of course, was misdiagnosed as bipolar back in the 90s… but the anti-depressants just keep bringing about bouts of frustration, aggravation, oh and overwhelmed at times! Anyway I really feel like I learned a lot from this in regards to how these meds work and why they just might not work well with VY 🤔
Thanks for the video. I was wondering which is the best SSRI medication in 2023? Or maybe the one with the least side effects ? Or the most popular ? Thanks
I keep thinking, the problem with treatment with medications is the side effects, especially with weight gain, anorgasmia and drowsiness. Even with diet and exercise, I gained weight and bloated, causing self-esteem problems. Having depression and panic is bad, you take medication and you have these symptoms and you also feel bad, we have no way out
Can the motor fibers of the somatic in the ANS nerve pathways be rearranged in the coding method of the codons for paraphlegia and Lou Gehring syndrome ( ALS )?
What’s a better combination Zoloft/klonopin or Buspirone/Lexapro? I’m so scared to take for fear of the side effects and weaning off. Yet I’m suffering from my anxiety, manic attacks and insomnia. I’m so lost.😞

95% of people who die by suicide do it through means other than OD. Yes, you can fatally overdose on amitriptyline (vs. citalopram) but you’re more likely not to, and prescriptions can be limited to weekly scrip’s of dispense at a time if that’s a worry. This worry of OD has never been a good reason to withhold on prescribing potentially life-saving drugs. SSRIs by-and-large are no antidepressants.

Anyway I really feel like I learned a lot from this in regards to how these meds work and why they just might not work well with VY 🤔
Amazing, simple as always. Big Thanks

Having depression and panic is bad, you take medication and you have these symptoms and you also feel bad, we have no way out
I hate pills I take psychedelics and I've been off of all of my medications for over 2 years. Thank God Canada is doing research in it

What’s a better combination Zoloft/klonopin or Buspirone/Lexapro? I’m so scared to take for fear of the side effects and weaning off. Yet I’m suffering from my anxiety, manic attacks and insomnia. I’m so lost.😞

I think. TCA are be of the best antidepressants but it is so easy to over dose
Pls where’s the link for the quiz
