@@LA-wv7gf I get disgusted with Goodwill because of how much the head of the company makes. It's ridiculous! They get all this stuff for free and they are marking alot of it at store prices now. Target gives them a ton of brand new items and they are trying to get almost what the tags say now. Goodwill used to be for those who really were poor and they could go in and get 5 or 6 outfits per child when school started for less then $10. I'm sorry it should still be like that. Goodwill gets it all free! Anything with a designer label like womens jeans Goodwill is really profiting on.

I have to disagree as a former reseller to some degree. Yes there are some awful resellers but there are also very courteous resellers. However no thrift store should be
be marking up the prices exponentially based on what eBay sells them for. Stores were originally for people less fortunate and the prices were kept low so that they could Shop and should remain as such today. They should not be competing with resellers Because that only hurts the people that are in need. Goodwill gets everything for free and the other stores as well so the prices should be marked accordingly and to cover their costs and programs. What a person decides to do with the product that they buy is their business and it's nobody else's. If they want to buy $5000 worth of things and resell them that's their business because most of stuff ends up in a trash anyway. What thrift stores fail to see is that it's the resellers who are dumping a ton of money into these businesses. The store should be thankful instead of complaining.

    1. Haircuts - I do my own.
    2. Hair Dye - I do my own.
    3. Pedicure/Manicure - I do my own.
    4. Furniture/decor- I purchased what I love and rarely purchase now. I help my friends find things they like - I get a thrill out of
helping them. I like my spacious, uncluttered easy to clean home. I live in serenity.
    5. Most clothes - I purchase at resale or garage sales. I do not have a lot of clothes.

Food is one thing I will actually have delivered, both for ordering at restaurants and for groceries. Why? I believe it personally helps me spend LESS and sticking to a list by ordering online, even paying a fee and if you tip your delivery driver, I come out ahead not just when it comes to shopping for the monthly cost but also the time as well that it would take me to drive to and from the store, wait in lines, and choose (usually more than what I need) for food. I highly recommend using food delivery services because it helps me personally stick to my weekly or bi weekly list.

Several years ago someone who was a good musician went to the dumpsters behind a major guitar store that is a national chain and got quality musical instruments that were slightly damaged. He repaired those for his own use and for re-sale. He also got accessories and musical scores in those dumpsters. Since his video or the news about his exploits, the company has been ultra destructive about all they put into the dumpsters or lock those dumpsters.

When you mentioned your basic inventory of clothes (at approximately 10:00 into your video) it got my full attention because I am doing something very similar like you seem to be doing. I've been looking through my closet because I decided to get it down to a group of 15(?) items that I'll be able to mix and match. Then if an item within my "core" group of clothes shows wear, I will replace it. We also have a Grocery Outlet Store in our community. The thing with growing leafy greens is that they're very inexpensive to grow, don't take a lot of care or space in your garden. Plus you can pick the amount you want so they don't go bad in your fridge like store bought ones. So not bad for a side salad that can only add nutrition to your meals. of course if you don't like eating them at all then thats another issue 😅

  • @LotusPoet

Good video idea. I have never found couponing worth it either, because of what I eat and where I shop, like you. The fruit trees are pure gold. Because I do almost all of my laundry by hand (by preference), I do make my own laundry detergent but it's so quick and easy that I just make it on the spot for each batch of laundry. (I use a plastic scoop from a protein powder canister I once had, and do about 1/2 to 3/4 scoop of washing soda, a similar amount of borax, a few drops of super concentrated biodegradable camping soap that comes in a 4-oz. bottle and lasts me years, and 1 drop of essential oil for scent; right now I'm into frankincense. During one of the rinses I could add a little vinegar to soften, brighten whites, or remove soap residue.) I currently do 1 small load by hand every 2-4 weeks in a medium-sized plastic bin with a lid, as I am fine with wearing the same thing for several days if it's not stinky or stained. I can soak the clothes overnight before washing for stain removal, in a washing soda solution following the instructions on the box, and just fasten the lid on the bin. This method works fine for me because I use the washing soda and borax for household cleaning and would have them on hand anyway. And my essential oils have many other uses. The camp soap could be diluted and used for dish soap, etc., if I ran out. The clothes get dried on a clothesline. We are on a well and this doesn't use much water.

    • @LotusPoet
      @LotusPoet Рік тому +2

oh and one of the reasons this works pretty well is because I use long soaking times, especially in the detergent for the washing cycle (1 to 1-1/2 hrs), then the first rinse (1/2 hour), then the second (and maybe a third) rinse go pretty fast. I do enough agitation/plunging/slapping the clothes up and down and rubbing them with my hands at each stage to do the job, and the water bounces around in the rectangular bin enough to do some agitation work.

Hi Prepper Princess I know I can’t blame you for not dumpster diving for food and things. I would get busted here. I do see the people on another UA-cam vlog dumpster diving in Houston, Texas. This couple goes and pick up old stuff dumped from college dorms and apartment buildings they just abandon their stuff in the huge dumpster and this couple pickups the rest so they can donate to be reusable again. I am afraid to do this and get cross contamination. They wear masks and gloves. Me too I buy food with my ebt. I love coffee and some tea. Once in a blue moon I go to a light breakfast and or lunch with a family friend. We both pitch in and pay with cash. At times I have to use my credit card. I don’t have time to collect coupons. Some people go to extremes and pay $00 at a grocery store extreme couponing. Wow I don’t have that energy to do that too. I go to sprouts and vons here in SoCal. Cat food I go to cvs and get my 10 percent off. So happy for you. I already paid the $15.50 for the good book I ordered from your Amazon. I hope to get a good financial planner when I reach 55 and over. I just have a long summer break and I go back to work by mid August. Temp agencies are too booked with too many applicants. I used to go thrifting but it does get pricey now. Only before holidays I did get 10 percent off at a local Goodwill. I always liked vintage knick knacks. I donated all my dolls i received from Japan. Oh well I had to minimize my living room. Have a wonderful summer your two pet dogs are so adorable. I have three feral outdoor cats I like to feed and take care of. They are like my fur babies. I like casual. My weakness is purses and accessories. If I don’t use them I give it away to my waitress friends they love it. Ok I know I am generous too. I need to get my future retirement and emergency funds prepared. I have fo start over since my parents and Lost so much income from bad financial planners, who were taking a lot out of our retirement savings. Taken too many risks. Ok I don’t pay rent. Still feel overwhelmed with the inflation store closures from bankruptcy. Bed bath and beyond and Tuesday Morning is defunct now. I used to craft I don’t buy a lot decorative papers at Joanns and Michael’s I make a mini album wind up giving them for free. I did get paid a little one time. Take care 👍🦄💜

Eating one meal a day! I don't think I can handle it. I don't eat cooked food. Two fruit meals and one salad & sprouts meal. Over sixty and very healthy. Have not had a flu or cold in years especially after starting with this diet. Two meals are mainly banana smoothie. But I don't think I can handle one fruit meal only. I have to have three meals otherwise probably I will dissappear as I am thin. Do you get enough calories with one meal? Don't you get hungry? Not criticising. Just curious. It is your choice. There are some people literally live to eat especially the ones who frequent the take away food shops to eat junk food and get sick. They make the merchants rich.

You have to follow a dietary plan that works for you. Hypoglycemia (the opposite of diabetes) runs in my family, and I have a history of eating disorder as well as having OCD (for real, not the "cutesy neat freak" type, and on meds for it), so OMAD doesn't work for me. It's too restrictive and would trigger the eating disorder as well as not providing a consistent enough supply to regulate my blood sugar. My personal meal plan (I refuse to use the word "diet" bc the first 3 letters spell "die!") is what I call my Dr Seuss meal plan. Every day, I eat a green, a bean, a root, and a fruit, as well as a grain and most days some type of meat (for the protein and bc my husband and my Daddy like to hunt and fish, and my family as well as his has always lived by the philosophy of you eat what you kill, and you don't kill what you won't eat). You have to consider food allergies and sensitivities as well as any health challenges (physical, mental, emotional, financial, "health" covers a LOT of areas) when deciding on what to eat and when.

Love your show~ you're awesome 🙏😇say you might like growing arugula too. It's stronger than Basil,& makes a great pesto. Yum. I blend mine with olive oil & pour it on potatoes, pasta, or meat, when I feel like I need a good dose of green vegetables. You can eat the flower buds too~ they are like full of vitamins...maybe omegas or something, but so cheap & easy to grow. Plus they usually reseed themselves.

I'm working on replacing furniture and appliances for free. I've started using the Fetch app and have been slowly getting points, that will pay for a few of the items that I will need to get new (very few items are amongst those that I feel must be "new" vs new to me). I rarely use coupons myself and I'm really looking forward to switching to even more made at home foods vs box or store bought foods. The plan is to replace the broken deep freezer eventually and that will take care of getting my loss leader produce and helping it to not be wasted. I usually only buy socks and underclothes new. I will occasionally buy new shoes but even that's pretty rare.

I think she was saying she just went in/on top garbage cans in front of stores on her lunch break not big huge dumpsters- that probably makes more $$ than my doordash over here in my quiet CT town. $5/hr when it’s slow ugh. Prepper Princess helped me get my electric bill from like $150 to $55. Unplugged everything except the printer in my house and it worked!!

When they have any name brand get ___ back I jump on that. I don't coupon because it takes a lot of work. Tapping on an app and uploading receipts takes little effort.

Clothes. When we were traveling fulltime, I owned 35 pcs, of clothing, including jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, sleepwear, and party wear, that took me all around the year. We spent a lot of time in campgrounds with easy access to a laundry room. I had very little room for dirty clothes, so I washed a load every few days,
Now, we are moving hLfway up a mountain and a laundromat will be quite a drive down an "iffy" mountain road. I don't want to make that drive ofte . So, I own a lot more clothes to span the time between drives into town to the laundromat.

Used to love thrift stores but as you say,CV ruined it-selection is sparse and overpriced. Most of the things you DON'T do are bad moves anyway. Dumpster diving for food is gross but I guess it is for colder climates. The idea of food from there is psychologically abhorrent to me. Electronics and such might be ok but I am too old to climb in .LOL

If you don't like to garden, don't garden. Do something that you like to do that maybe you could trade for vegetables with somebody else, who hates to do the other thing that you like to do.

It is actually cheaper than decent dog food, often pork roasts for $1 per pound, and carots or green beans cooked in the meat juice. Dogs love it of course, and what is better for a dog than REAL meat! My thrift stores are still pretty awesome in the South to be honest, both in selections and price...
