Fall Break 2024 Road Trip!
Oct. 17th-20th, Day 3
This is our Plan B destination of our diverted road trip. Our route through the mountain passes were snowed in and we even missed our time entry window for Arches NP so we picked a trail in the area and went for it. This trail did impress with the diversity, red rock cliffs, river crossings, route finding, and a beautiful natural bridge to make it all worth it!

Thanks. This turned out to be one of those spur of the moment random trails that turned out to be a lot of fun. It really exceeded our expectations for challenge and adventure. Grandstaff Canyon is a great hike! Me and my wife did this one back in 2013. Morning Glory Arch is an amazing place especially if it is hot during the summer. Be careful by the arch, lots of poison ivy in that drainage! It's a great trail to hit if you don't want to deal with the National Park. Cool to see the Asters still blooming! There was not water running at the arch when I was there, It was dry. Looks like you guys had a nice day!

Grandstaff Canyon.. first time hearing the name. Nice hike with river crossings for Plan B. Beautiful and towering canyon walls but treacherous river crossings. ☝️👌

Great hike and trail! Really pretty to have the green plants as you walk along- I can see why the trail is hard to follow. Pretty interesting and scary to see the high water mark from the flash floods. Cool rocks at the end, great perspective with Kristy - shows how massive the walls are. Wow, the La Sal Mountains look amazing with fresh snow! ❄❄❄☀😄

One of my favorite hikes. You can reppel from the top of the wall between the arch and cliff.

Shame about not getting on those mountains but that snow looked rough. Turns out the desert canyon hike was pretty good as well. Plenty of trail markers, which looks like you needed with all the different offshoots and the height of the canyon walls were amazing. Sounds like you picked the right time to walk that trail too but would not want to get caught out in a rain storm there, cheers Alan

Lots of adventure and scenery the entire way. You definitely do not want to be in here when it is raining in the area though. Looks like a pretty day for a hike. I like the running water. Very relaxing sound. Awesome there’s still flowers. 3:50 oh yeah that is pretty. I really do love all the water crossings in the canyon. They are so pretty. There’s so many of the water crossings. I’d probably end up with wet feet and be miserable 😂 What are those little puff ball things? Sure is a pretty canyon. Nothing wrong with you going the opposite direction. Oh I bet it does flood bad. Scary thought. Great hike!
Thanks. We loved this canyon. Lots of views, adventure, water crossings, cliffs, and natural bridge. I think the puff balls were a seeded flower like a dandelion but much bigger. I have heard there are a lot of great places in Moab. I think I am going to need to put it on our bucket list.
Thanks for watching. Moab area is an awesome area of Utah. So many National Parks, BLM land, plus lots of activities and things to do. You could easily spend months here exploring. It does get super busy here so plan for that or around that by coming off season. Especially, if you need reservations for NP park entry, tours, or the like. I hope you can make it here and explore. We love staying in the Moab area. I've seen this trailhead, but this is one hike I haven't been on. Beautiful area. One of my favorite hikes is to the Corona Arch for sunset. Flash floods... I won't hike in Canyon Country if it's raining. lol. Thanks, Steve!
Thanks. Moab area is definitely worth exploring. It is only 3.5 hours from our house so we have been here plenty. So many awesome trails to explore. We have not done Corona Arch yet but it is on my list to do. I want to fly my drone through it when we do. You definitely need to be aware of the flood possibilities in this area. @ I believe you’ll enjoy the Corona Arch. It’s not a long hike, but you’ll get to see two arches on it. Corona and Bow tie arches.
