Bob James - Keyboards Kirk Whalum - Sax Alexander Zonjic - Flute David Brown - Guitar Gary King - Bass Yogi Horton - Drums Leonard Doc Gibbs - Percussion
Bob James influence on 80s hip hop music was massive! It was from the hip hop samples of his music that I actually started to really appreciate all of his music, not just the break downs sampled by rap artist.
Definitely, 1985 a chance whereby through live performance music talents the likes of Alexander Zonjic, Yogi the drummer & the marvelous Kirk Walum were brought to limelight, a period before the untimely death of Bob James bandleader, the energetic bassist Gary king. Leonard Doc Gibbs an old band member, a band full a energy.
+Mario Enrique Llado Vega this is treasure. This band is heavyweight and it shows in the music and the way they groove together. I was not aware of David Brown's lead guitar work until now. The man can play. The late Gary King was joy to watch. I thought Gary King was the most animated and craziest in terms of bringing energy to Bob Jame's music and live show but now after watching the GREAT Yogi Horton I have to give them both props for bringing the music alive and providing showmanship without taking away from the music. Yogi Horton to me has achieved legendary status since his unfortunate death. He was a perfect fit for Luther Vandross' R & B music and teamed up with Marcus Miller on bass, that must have been another unbelievable live show every time they hit.
Rip The Great Yogi. My funkiest hero!
This is Gary King's son Kinyatta. It is great to see people enjoy his bass lines.
Yogi was such a gifted and exciting drummer!
Came here because of Yogi
OMG... I was there that evening..... My guy Yogi Horton is playing the drums!!!
There's just something about live music that gives it an edge that studio recordings do not. By the way, the sound on this is great!
I've never seen mics taped on the wrists before for percussion. Great idea!
So great performance, relaxing and happy music, really fantastic!!!💯💯😎😎😎
